    This video was a good reality check for me I have been thinking about getting a pet snake and have a few in mind but a super dwarf might just be too much compared to the other more manageable and small snakes in mind, if only they were a little smaller.

    I have a 7 month old super dwarf female and she is the sweetest and most intelligent animal I’ve ever had

  • @Philminator
    @Philminator 3 роки тому +10

    Reticulated pythons and king cobras are the most incredible snakes in the world in my experience interacting with them. They are incredibly intelligent, and are just gorgeous looking. A non colour morph retic rivals fancy colour morphs of other snakes in my opinion, and if you're able to find a reputable breeder with true 100% SD retics, you can end up with a wonderful companion that will be manageable for one person. Whether you have a few snakes, or a bunch, no true collection is complete without one of these amazing animals. It's a truly unique experience.
    PS: I just recently found your channel, and you're awesome. I don't know why, but most UA-camrs whether gamers, or any other type, really annoy me. Just subbed by the way. It's too bad the US & Canada is complicated for shipping of live animals and incredibly expensive.

    Sometimes I really don’t understand why people went for the mainlands instead of these, they’re so much more reasonable to keep as pets

    • @bluewhaleking6227
      @bluewhaleking6227 2 роки тому +5

      Probably because mainlands were found first.

    • @HHLucifer666

      Probably for the same reason that I wanna be able to keep a king cobra. It's the danger factor. Now the caveat is that I KNOW kings amd constrictors that big are dangerous, and it's because of that danger factor that I don't have one. Of we just look at the king cobra, it has probably one of the COOLEST defense mechanisms of any snake I've ever seen... AND THAT HEAD! I could go ON AMD ON about how amazing king cobras are, however, I also understand that these amazing animals need to be kept either in the wild, or by keepers with a LOT of venom keeping experience (see Tyler Nolan, Chandlers wild life, and NERD, for examples). It's certainly a lot less risky for me to keep a mainland retic vs a king cobra, however there is still a big risk, especially when mainland retics are the only real documented case of a snake eating a person. Not that that's a deterrent for me personally, but that's just cause I'm ACTUALLY insane 🤪
      I think I'll just continue to live vicariously through cobra keepers online and through a FALSE water cobra for myself (to anyone actually considering if the king cobra is the right snake for you, STOP. YOU WILL KNOW WHEN YOUR READY TO DEAL WITH A KING COBRA AND THAT TIME ISNT NOW!!!)

    Quick question:
    I saw that when you approached the snakes you did a kind of "press down" motion on the head? Is that like to "de-escalate" their mood?
    Also, does it work on other snake species?

      I don’t think any reputable SD breeder would ever sell any and guarantee they will stay under 6’. If you need a long, slender, active pet under 6’- you are more in Colubrid territory. Remember, a SD Retic under 6’ is a smaller animal than an adult ball python in most cases.

    If the powerfed one is not recommended, why'd you do it and why don't you recommend it? Also how do you tell when you catch one in the wild if it's dwarf, super dwarf or going to grow to a normal size?

    • @Lauresaurus96
      @Lauresaurus96 3 роки тому

      I know they have a couple of animals that have been power fed and pushed to their limits. All of them that I know of were produced/raised to adulthood before they were acquired by Reach Out Reptiles. And the dwarf/super dwarf animals are a result of populations under pressure from natural selection for a long time. They can tell by where they were originally collected from in the wild.

    Online says that Dwarf Pythons grows up to most of the time of being 6 - 8 ft. long only if the Dwarf Blood is Dominating in their blood stream & their length is less likely to reach 10 feet long . 19 foot 8 inches to rarely grows out to be those that are not Dwarf type . But 32 feet long is the longest on Record that is not a Dwarf type . Allegedly a 42 ft. 8 inches long skeleton was found that is not Dwarf - Type . I don't know anything about them or of any other snake species . This info. I've sent in this comment are all from online .

  • @drthik1
    @drthik1 3 роки тому

    Imagine if that "mainland" had been fed a mouse every 2 weeks from a hatchling and it was on a maintenance diet its whole life, its size would be very comparable to the previous snakes shown in this video.
    To the uninformed this often results in the "mainland" being misidentified for being d or sd simply because of its small size, which was almost entirely dependent on what they were fed.
    Just like the female platty, it would be interesting to know what all of the snakes previous feedings consisted of before the making of this video.

    • @ReachOutReptiles
      @ReachOutReptiles  3 роки тому +1

      Several of these adults are Wildcaught- so what we recommend is feeding a prime nutrition diet to maintain that healthy body type- notice the abnormally large Kalatoa female we mentioned was powered her whole life, not at all ideal. We believe in allowing the genetics of the animal to determine its size while offering the best possible care we are capable of. Artificially manipulating sizes with feed schedules is at best an unhealthy mindset (changing the animal to suit your needs, rather than getting the right animal for yourself in the first place), and at worst inhumane. ...the memory of carnival alligators sold under the guise they only grow to the size of their enclosure comes to mind...

    • @ReachOutReptiles
