    You had a great Dad!, Your a better man for it. Boston Whalers are the best. “Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

    We love Whalers. We took an 11 footer to the Bahamas twice as our tender. Tough as nails!

    Hey y'all, hope you are enjoying our beautiful gulf coast. I just wanted to drop a comment to say how I came across your channel. Some time ago, I was given a classic Boston Whaler by my stepdad. He has had the boat for a few decades and we have enjoyed it thoroughly. Now that it is mine, i was watching Whaler videos one day, and came across your video of when you were racing those kids in your little 13' whaler, and i began watching several more of your videos. I love the down to earth excitement you both share for the love of life. You are both a great inspiration and a rare example of great stewards of our environment and our waters. I am so glad i found your channel, and have decided to go back to the beginning of your channel and watch every video from the first one forward. I am sorry to have missed the chance to meet you both while you were recently so close to my home in Bradenton. It was great watching you enjoy Sarasota area and Cayo Costa . I spent many weekends as a boy camping and exploring there. .great memories. I love your classic Whaler, never let her go. I will continue watching the rest of your story from here, and please let me know if y'all ( yes I say y'all ) ever make it back to this area and I will be happy to bring out some steaks and have lunch with you. Please stay safe, and , Billy hurry up and marry that girl! She is awesome! Till next time. Thank you for sharing your adventures!

    Awesome. I had a squall when I was a kid a little younger than you. Use to fill it up with salt water and when the New England seawater warmed up in the sun. I would take a warm water bath. Then hoist the sail pull the plug. Sail away and it self bailed the water out. I now have a 1967 13 foot whaler, a 15 foot 1995 whaler and am looking for a Harpoon 5.2. Nice video

    I pulled one out of a dumpster on Nantucket. Someone had been using it as a raw bar. Restored it to perfection and it was lost in hurricane Sandy 😭. The squall towed perfectly and self bailed

      Rich, what do you puller her with? I have a squall that I need to finish restoring. Wondering now if I should restore and sell, or keep it for my Marshall 22. I also have a Puffin I bought for the motor. So far I tend to avoid a dinghy, or bring a rollup Achilles stored below.

    Opinion time: You're a great dog owner. 1) dog gets to run and play off the leash 2) dog gets the front seat in the car 3) dog stays with you during your day. Thumbs way up buddy! However the Portland Pudgy with the lifeboat setup and the sailing rig is by far the best dinghy. Safe, practical, carries an unbelievable amount of anything you want to throw into it, can save your life and then sail home, indestructible, you can throw away the worthless dangerous liferaft, incredibly stable, etc etc. What other dinghy can do all that?

    • @skipperup
      @skipperup 7 років тому

      One other thing they are: ex-spen-sive! Whalers are great but heavy! Still looking for the best all around(this is a subject like anchors!)

    • @pubu2010
      @pubu2010 7 років тому

      skipperup if you add the cost of any sailing dingy to the cost of a liferaft, it is very similar to the Pudgy. Consider the cost to repack your liferaft each year ($600-$800), and your dinghy is free after several years. Never repack again! And you can put quality lifesaving gear aboard her yourself and then use her every day. I've even raised the lifeboat canopy if it started raining hard and then motored back to my boat while staying dry.

    So maybe the title is not fully suitable. Your piece ends up emphasizing that boating = work, which it does, but you can still love it, which you and your dog do. Excellent.

    Whalers are GREAT boats, that's why they're so expensive! And I mean expensive, like Grady Whites $$$$$$

    Hi! I am going to pick up a Whaler Squall this weekend, what is the name/brand of the rub rail you installed with the rope??

  • @dianer9382
    @dianer9382 4 роки тому

    How tippy is that small Squall when rowing, sailing? Seems to be a very round bottom? Any secondary stiffness when heeling? I was thinking about buying one of these to fish from in a salt water river that’s 5 miles wide.
    Is flipping it a major problem rowing? Under sail?

    • @Tulasendlesssummer
      @Tulasendlesssummer  4 роки тому

      It feels very stable rowing but it is far from stable if you were to step on the rail. I would never ever have imagined flipping sailing or rowing while keeping even mild attention to my weight being inboard. I could see a naive guest flipping it easily by stepping on the gunwhale. Maybe not even flipping it but they would certainly fall in.

    Post a vid about what you think is the best cruising dingy but out of a 5 minute vid it only gets about a minute of coverage. Don't even get to see it in action. I guess it's not worth showing

    • @murph914
      @murph914 4 роки тому

      I was kinda looking forward to seeing it drop into the ocean then bounce back up like any Whaler should. Oh well. They have an interesting mix of sail power and row. I think much more geared towards rowing than the other two . . .

    Funny how Americans think of "cruising dinghy" LOL
    Its a plastic motor boat You have NO idea what a cruising dinghy is.
