It would be helpful if Mercury would settle on a single correct oil filter for this series of engines. Mine came with one model number, but the kit contained a different oil filter model number, and even that was different than the one the kit claimed to contained. How in the world do you know if you have the correct filter???

it has a temperature range the guy at mercury dealer suggested going to the 25w 40 in summer with warm water and high speed driving the 10w 30 is better in cold weather below 40 or just all around use
If you turn the motor as if turning sharp right, so the oil drain hole is at an angle you get less oil running down the leg as it drains.

Stick a screwdriver through the filter for leverage
The 65 mm oil cap wrench socket spun here too.. had to purchase an adjustable plier type oil wrench to remove mine.
I'll bet it took longer to clean the oil off that motor then it did to change it. You got it all over everything you touched with those gloves.

oil 10w30 or 25w50?
25w 50 is more synthetic normally using for verado engines 10w 30 is enough for small engine
