I have never commented on a UA-cam video but holy shit thank you so much I’ll never understand why they made such a great car that yells at you all the time. I wear my seat belt everywhere I go but the constant beeping getting in and out is so annoying
lol 😂 agreed! And it’s super easy to eliminate the speaker.. I haven’t regretted it one bit. (The pre-collision and safety beeps still function normally without this little speaker) I even learned to enjoy the quiet when using the turn signal..
Thanks for this. The chimes and beeping are so obnoxious in this truck. Sucks about losing the turn signal noise but I’m willing to live with that. Before I found this I was looking on Tacomaworld and the question of how to disable to beeping was just met with a bunch of Karens in the comments telling people to wear their seatbelts. I live on 40 acres and use my truck to get around it at low speed, often having to jump in and out to do various tasks. The beeping and chiming was making me crazy
Agreed, the chimes were a bit much for me too. You definitely needed this if your in and out that much. I actually like the ticker noise being silenced, but that’s just a personal preference..
@@WesleyAllenNC seems to be a common theme with modern electronics. I was just talking to a friend a few weeks ago about kitchen appliances. Ovens, coffee pots, dishwashers all seem to beep and make entirely too much noise these days.
Back in the old days the only thing you would hear when you started up your car was the radical camshaft that you just installed. The new bells and whistles that come with today's cars are absolutely not necessary.
Excellent. The only difference for me was that on my 2021, the four bolts were 10mm. You are my hero, Wes! The door ajar beep is a design flaw on this otherwise great truck.
I did the exact same thing on my 2nd gen (2015) but on those it doesn't disable the turn signal/hazard sounds. Like you, that's not a deal breaker for me. I didn't know this was possible in the 3rd gen. I'm most likely buying a 2023 TRD O/R & plan to do the same thing. I didn't know about the other options as well. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video.
Great video. I started outside the laundry mat and when I got to the t+15s there was an auto zone across the street that had a t-15 driver for 8 bucks. Whole thing took 5 or 10 minutes 😎👍🏽
@@WesleyAllenNC it definitely did! Finally silence in the taco 🤣 By the way, no tools are needed for the trim pieces. They pop right off with a little bit of finger persuasion. Removing the chime speaker also silences the turn signal. That was a definite bonus, because that sound can be annoying, too. Especially at long red lights.
Idt I've ever accidentally put it reverse on accident in my manual tacoma, but I appreciate your comment about how this speaker removal also removes the reverse beep
Peace and quiet finally! This really works, the only thing I would add. Is once everything is apart, place a 1/4" piece of black electrical tape over the Red seat belt 🚨 light. This kills the light with the beeper. Awesome 😎
I purchased the Carista bluetooth ODBII adapter and disabled the seatbelt chime in the dealer level settings for driver and passenger. Cost about $40 and was super easy. I made a number of other changes while I was in there. If you want your door open and the chime to stop, just push the lever inside the door jam that would be triggered by the door closing. Hope this helps the next folks!
You do not have to destroy the speaker (piezo buzzer), the cap comes off by relieving two of the six clips on the bottom. Best seen at 4:29 in the video. Once the cap is off just remove the round plate inside, tape somewhere for the possible reuse in the future and put the cap back on (not necessary, but for the future also). Again, no need to destroy anything.
Nothing weird yet. My pre-collision warning still plays, so the safety bits are still intact. This beeper deletes the general door beeper for seatbelt and open door. Oddly enough it also deleted the turn signal ticking noise which I actually really like!
I ended up removing the speaker, definitely worth it. I can verify rear and front alerts still sound. Only thing I lost was the blinker clicking sound. Thanks again for the video, this beeping was literally moving me towards selling the damn truck it was that annoying.
@@2WCapo same! I’m glad it worked out well for you. You could always hang onto the beeper Incase you ever want someone to re-attach it to the board for whatever reason. I really like the silent turn signals!
@@WesleyAllenNC They can. But most won't due to liability. You can download Carista or Techstream and disable the beeping in settings yourself without making permanent changes.
I noticed after you put everything back together, and showed how the beeping was gone, you had the i for info lit on the screen in the middle. That didn’t turn on because you removed the speaker did it? I’d really like to do this, but not if the i will stay on consistently. Thank!
I’ll have to double check my truck when I’m home later today. I’ve driven it since posting the video several months ago and I can’t recall seeing anything else lit up on my screen.. I’ll update this comment when I get back later
@@WesleyAllenNC well I went ahead and did it. So far so good! My wife has a 2020 Camry XSE, the seat belt alarm is even worse in that. I’m wondering if it’s the same process.
@@WesleyAllenNC so I just split it open on the Camry. Process is similar, but I couldn’t split the speedometer housing like we did on the Tacoma. I took a razor blade and trimmed the plastic around the speaker, then removed it. You think the Tacoma is frustrating, the Camry is even worse and when the kids take there seatbelt off in the carpool line at school it goes nuts! Yep, even the back seat seatbelts would alert it.
Possibly, but not certain? Mines a 2021 and I can’t recall hearing the back-up beeper like my work F-150 has.. I know it still beeps at me if it thinks I’m going to have a collision 💥 I’ll try to update once I find out about the backing beeper

Its too bad they dont make a aftermarket speaker that says something like "Buckle your seatbelt ***hole" or "shut you door dumb****" i would love to have that. Or "welcome to Wesley's toyota" when the door is open 😂
Did you try 12 Volts on the thing you took off? I dug mine out like captain caveman. Oops. Gonna one day add a remote speaker and volume for when it's annoying. Right now, it's all visuals
I'm not a huge fan of the chime in the Tacoma, it just doesn't sound right, I want to buy an old 4Runner chime, from like 2005 or something. Those are so much better. That's classic Toyota right there

Hello. Lots of useful information for Taco owners. Thank you! I won't be doing the removal but enjoyed watching your video.
Thanks for watching! If you ever have any suggestions for videos let me know
Thanks Wes! Just did this in about 15 minutes. I used some thin scissors to the speaker off. Thanks for the sizes on the screws.

Is the chime an American market thing? Neither my 2016 nor my 2020 have a chime here in Canada!
I’m honesty not sure. It seems like most U.S. vehicles come equipped with some sort of door chime or tone of some sort though

Wes, do you think you could just put tape or sound dampening over the speaker so you could change it back in case you sell the vehicle?
I’m sure you could, but you’ll still hear the beeping fairly. Not sure what the best method would be for this. Maybe electrical or duct tape?
I decided to go ahead and try with sound sampening(metal backed rubber tape) took me 5 min. You can still hear it but it cut the sound in half.
