  • Sri M - "Devotion has to be spontaneous. It cannot be cultivated. It comes under certain situations and for different people in different ways. Sometimes it happens when you are in close proximity with someone who has experienced the joy of devotion. There are cases where the great teacher Chaitanya Mahaprabhu hugged a man who had no belief in any system and the next day he completely changed and became a devotee. Because after all devotion is kind of anintoxication. The devotee goes through it by love and affection. The Yogi, the vedantin and the bhakta, all of them are in a way are people who are enjoying the joy of communion, with the divine in a very tangible way."
Sri M speaks on the topic, 'How do we meditate?' (the above video is Part 1) in the Public Satsang on Day 2, 15th Sept. 2019 at The Jain Temple in Milpitas, California USA.

    About Sri M
Born in India, Sri M is a spiritual guide, social reformer, educator and writer. He first met his Master at the age of nine under the jackfruit tree, in the compound of his house in Thiruvananthapuram in the Indian coastal state of Kerala.
The full account of his astonishing and amazing experiences are published in his memoir from 2011 titled “Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master - A Yogi’s Autobiography“, which became an instant bestseller. He has written a sequel to his autobiography, titled “Sri M - The Journey Continues”, which was released last year.
Sri M has traveled the world fulfilling his life’s mission to teach and guide people as instructed by his Master, Maheswarnath Babaji. Over the years, Sri M’s mission as a spiritual guide, social reformer and educator have given rise to many initiatives including:
    - high-quality, multi-lingual education, free to rural children
    - Satsang Rural School - an unique and innovative approach to education.
    - Co-educational, residential school committed to providing in-depth exploration of knowledge.
    - Affordable, preventive and curative holistic health care
In 2015, Sri M went on a 16-month journey, Walk of Hope, from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, spanning 5000 miles across 11 states of India, to bring attention to humanity’s need for peace, harmony and tolerance.
Sri M says: “Go to the core. Theories are of no use.” His message seeks to transcend the outer-shell of all religions, by exploring their mystical essence and thus nurture the innate goodness in every human being.

That achievement of bhakti that Sri M is describing here is called "kripa siddhi" or perfection through the causeless mercy of guru, and is rare. The method of achieving perfection in bhakti recommended for the general population is "sadhana siddhi," or attaining the perfection by following the rules and regulations on the order of guru. This method allows for gradual purification of the mind and increasing the taste for devotional service. And then, when both guru and god/goddess are pleased with the sincerity of the practitioner, the perfection of bhakti, called "bhava," are achieved. Both of these ways are legitimate, but we shouldn't just loiter around, life after life indulging in material activities, and wait for the causeless mercy of guru. With all humility we should accept the regular practice recommended for us by shri guru, in whatever situation in our life we may be at the moment. Namaste.
