      exactly, I agree. Also, people like to say .22 is worthless and isn't effective, then I show them the security footage of that psychopath who ran into the mall with his Ruger 10/22 and killed 5 innocent people just minding their own business. Definitely sad but it proves any caliber firearm is better to defend yourself with than rocks or sticks.

      Bruce Jenner Can you explain this one...a guy at my local range was trying to impress me and the wife..he fired off his bodyguard and it misfired three times..I used it also and it misfired twice on one clip, then I took out my trusty .38 smith and Wesson revolver...it fired off five rounds like a rocket, no fail there..the owner of the bodyguard thinks his rounds were old because he had them for more than one year, my .38 had the same rounds and wasn’t fired for five years...now how do you explain that...was it the weapon, the rounds or the age?
      I think your back up weapon should be more reliable than your main arms so I will stick with my revolver as a back up..

      Richard Driskill I agree with you totally, I am just amazed at the rate of malfunction of most auto weapons at the range, the need to replace worn out parts etc...guys with auto shotguns like benelli are in awe at the reliability and deadly actions of my 1187 Remington..needless to say I own and enjoy shooting autos also but will never rely on one as a back up weapon....my glock 19C from the 1990s works flawlessly with admittedly little maintenance but my .38 is yet to fail me..

    I enjoy your mention of the trigger pull being heavy as a benefit for a conceal carry gun. For most who have trained extensively with a firearm it is very different in a real life situation. Having a heavy trigger pull in an anxious situation is certainly not a bad thing.

    I've had one of these (identical except mine has the built-in laser) in my pocket for a couple of years now, and I'm happy to see you give it a review, as well as win your approval. I've certainly put my trust in it. The biggest advantage with this little gun is how easy they are to keep concealed -- I've got mine almost everywhere I can legally carry it, and nobody else ever has a clue. It's the perfect surprise for the bad dudes, and surprise can be what makes all the difference.

    I love how the BG fits so neatly into my pocket. I have a Desantis Pocket Shot Pocket Holster that prints like a normal wallet in my front or rear pockets. If someone asked for your wallet, you can pull it out and to the perp it would still look like a wallet. It is so well concealed even out of pocket. The .380 usually has equal if not superior real life effectiveness as a .38 snubby. Having the 7 shots and ability for quick reload makes a viable CCW in warmer climates where concealment can be an issue.
    When I purchased it at Gander Mtn, I was told by the salesman that I would be lucky to hit a medicine ball at 10 yards. I was a little skeptical but purchased it anyway because the price was right. When I took it to the range I was doing 2" groups at 15 yards with my own reloads using the factory laser while free standing. I was incredibly pleased to say the least. This gun is capable of incredible accuracy as Jerry so aptly illustrated. Imagine if he was shooting from a Ransom Rest!!!

  • @sirarnie9837
    @sirarnie9837 9 років тому +28

    I put about 500 rounds through my Bodyguard and I haven't had any malfunctions yet.
    For the first couple of years of production of the BG, those weapons seem to have a lot of issues, particularly with light primer strikes. So if you are looking to buy one, make sure you have a later serial number, right now anything beginning with K should be good. For example "KCC####" should be weapons produced in the last few months. The early serial numbers are the ones that seem to have the most issues, those weapons with serial numbers beginning with E. "EAB####" being an example. Not all E serial numbers have had issues, but I would still avoid them buying any.

Complain about the trigger if you want, but he's shooting a stock gun and killing it. Humbling to see him shoot - see a lot of people talk about how awful the BG is - you have to ask if it's the gun that's awful or the shooter.

    I can't shoot like Jerry, but my new S&W M&P Bodyguard 380 is accurate and has functioned perfectly with a few hundred rounds of ball and some Hydra-Shok. I don't understand all of the complaints about the trigger. I will be doing something to make the sights more visible and I have a Mag-Guts kit to give me seven rounds in the magazine. I won't be doing anything else to modify this gun, it works fine.
    Just a note on the Mag-Guts kit. I installed it and 7 rounds of Hydra-Shok. In every try at emptying the magazine the slide hung after the sixth round. I removed the Mag-Guts and re-installed the stock magazine components. The extra round is not worth any type of malfunction to me. This is just my experience. This conversion apparently works well for most folks, it just didn't work out well for me.

    The funny thing is that I've been finding multiple UA-cam video reviews of the S&W M&P Bodyguard .380 complaining about how the long/heavy trigger pull makes it impossible to shoot accurately. Jerry is using it to hit at 50, 110, and 200 yards.

    • @funwithcupcakes923
      @funwithcupcakes923 3 роки тому +1

    • @gillianorley
      @gillianorley 3 роки тому +2

      @@funwithcupcakes923 You are absolutely correct. No question about it. Jerry seems able to get performance out of a pistol that very, VERY few others could.
      My point was simply that the pistol's trigger pull characteristics certainly do not preclude being able to hit the side of a barn with it. Or maybe even a bit better.
      Since posting my original comment, I have purchased the S&W M&P Bodyguard .380 and fired it at an indoor range. It definitely presents a bit of a challenge, but in my experience with it, the trigger-pull was no problem. It was the fact that a LOT of recoil is transmitted to your hand because the pistol is so lightweight at about 12 ounces empty and 13 ounces fully loaded with six rounds in the magazine.
      A .380 round might not seem like one that would have a lot of "kick," but when you are firing it from a 12.5 ounce pistol, relatively little of the recoil force is "absorbed" by the mass of the gun. Newton's Laws of Motion can be a bitch and you DO feel that force in the base of your thumb/index finger especially since the grip is simply hard-plastic with no "padding."

    I bought the M&P BG380 as a pocket pistol. Only a couple of hundred rounds through it so far, so still hoping the trigger will smooth out a little more. In a pocket holster that covers the trigger guard it would seem to be reasonable to carry it with a round in the chamber and the safety off.

    I am a hardcore gun guy & I love my glocks and for the longest time I didn’t want to add another caliber to the collection. I tried the Glock 42&43 and love em but they where still too big for certain situations. I gave the bodyguard a try and I love it. After all my first ever pistol was a double action only. If you can learn to shoot with the bodyguards heavy trigger and small sight radius then everything else is cake. It’s nice to train at the range with this thing for a couple hundred rounds then pick up my 1911, or full size Glock or beretta and just plink at 100 yards.

      Charles Marshall I mean this in no offensive way my friend, but I have a feeling you don't own a BodyGuard, right? I was like you. I hated, hated the trigger pull when I was first trying the gun. Now, I love it. It is by far one of the smoothest trigger pulls there is (stock of course). Unlike many other options, like the Glock, which I love and own three, there is really no point during the trigger pull that you know the next little bit of pressure will fire the gun. That is why I like the trigger setup. It's smooth consistent pressure. This will avoid flinching or jerking the trigger, like on many other stock triggers. Like I said, I hated it at first, but now I completely love this design. It's a smooth motion all the way through, generating exceptional accuracy.

      Kim Alatore People say all kinds of stuff. Anyone shot in the face with a 380 is done fighting 100% , and will soon die sans intervention 50%. Torso or limbs drops somewhat but guns hold more than one round. Some people find it difficult to imagine the effect of a shot because of Hollywood's products. If you describe it in terms they can more easily imagine, like being hit as hard as you can swing it with a carpenter's hammer, they usually get the picture.

    I bought a new Body Guard 380. Took it apart to see how easy it was to clean. The left side rail was all bent up. I compared it to my brothers which was straight as a stick. Emailed SAW some photos and they sent a call tag. They took a few weeks, but finally took time to look at it. They sent it back and said the deformed side rail should be fine. Kinda like ordering a new car and going to pick it up only to find a huge dent in it, and the salesmen says 'you can still drive it'.. I'm a Ruger girl, but wanted to try a SAW... big mistake, but never again. Ruger forever now. Love the Videos Jerry!!!!

I was contemplating purchasing one of these and Jerry's video had me convinced, but your experience left me cold. Too bad, because I liked really liked the size and features. As for accuracy, I'm convinced Jerry could will a bullet to a target without a weapon! I on the other hand couldn't hit the ground from 100 yards!

I never have a ftf or fte but my wife always has issues. Not to mention it's a bigger 380 and not as easy to conceal like a Ruger LCP is. The Bersa can be a good option depending on what you're looking for but for concealed carry LCP is your best option.

The groups were bigger than the one that Jerry has! It did go into under 4 inches for a 30 round group on a CCW qualification target at 7 yards ( if I throw out 3 of them that opened it up to about 6 inches when I jerked the trigger). Function was perfect. The sights were very close after I stopped jerking the trigger. I like it. I wish the trigger was a little lighter, but I seems to shoot well enough for me. It is much easier for me to shoot than my LCP was, and has less felt recoil. I paid 400 at Sportsman's Warehouse for the one with the laser.

      Nope.. the "giving" end.. My dad took one off of a German soldier that he had hidden under his helmet in WW2. By the way... he also had a 25 auto in his boot.. The Germans too realized the value of a "last ditch" weapon. However, most of us carry the 380 as our first defense since they are so concealable unlike the police who carry it as a "get off me gun".
