Lovely video with your dad , enjoy every time with your dad . I lost my dad 11 years ago we spent a lot of time together with the horses . I miss him a lot , it makes me happy to see the videos with you en your dad together it reminds me of my bond with my dad . Lots of love from me from the Netherlands

Great vlog! I know you're a professional so I'm not trying to tell you what to teach your dad, but I'm giving a tip I got when I was starting out jumping... my old jump coach used to say that if we got left behind/out of balance, we should shorten the reins, and hold our hands more in front of us up the horse's neck, so it was easy to take a grip in the mane. Her reasoning was that if your hands were forward you were less likely to pull on the mouth, and it would be easier to put your hands on the neck to stop yourself from going over the front if it put in a stop. She thought if you had your hands closer to your body, you would simply flip over your hands because of your weight and the speed.... It is something that I've found works wonders on a lot of horses I ride, but now I haven't jumped in ages...
I think Kato did really well, not too spooky.
Thanks Ashley for making such a wonderful blog. I thought you are more better at teaching than your dad as you really do know what your talking about. Would love to see more blogs like this one again to see how much your dad improves on his riding and keeping his hands down

You should give your Dad lunge line lessons. I think it would be a great video and it would also really help him get more independent with his body. There’s an old saying “to fix the hands, fix the seat.“. I think he would benefit from the lunge line lessons and of course it will ultimately help the horse he’s riding. There are so many great exercises that would be so great for getting his seat and everywhere else independent and supple.

A tip for your dad (I’m no where near a professional I’m just sharing what helped me) I’d get two short (not to short but not too long either) pieces of bale string, one on each D ring on the saddle then aswell as holding the reins hold the bale strings, and it helped me with keeping my hands low! Xx
