Your first year of criminal justice class you will learn that a contract does not have to be formally typed up. That napkin still stands as a formal contract as long as both parties signed
Wrong he actually knows precisely what she is thinking and she knows that when jane says we will talk later it has multiple layers of meaning but not for a SECOND would Lisbon think that Jane doesn't care for her or knows about her inner workings. Any audience familiar with jane would also never make that sort of remark so either you have never watched the mentalist (hell even the name will tell you that) or you are an AIRHEAD !
You obviously haven't seen the show. He always listens to her and respects her. But he does it in his own way which she knows. When he says they will talk later it means he would explain everything to her fully when they were alone. However she knew if she still refused, he wouldn't force her or be angry.
When Abbott reads the criminal charges, Jane looks to Lisbon to gage her reaction. He may have brushed off her concerns about quitting her washington job, but his body language betrays his need for her acceptance of him and all he is capable of. In Blue Bird he is so ashamed of himself he can't even keep his eyes on the door she's behind when she chastises him for his crass manipulation. He can bear anything except Teresa being truly ashamed of him. There is such a wealth of non-verbal acting in this show, I live for it.
Agree but as an FBI agent with torture being out of the question, if Patrick can't lie, manipulate and gaslight, what exactly is he left with? Most of the time the FBI doesn't exactly deal with the Boy Scouts selling cookies and lemonade by your local Safeway. Just saying.
@@tatianalyulkin410 I don't care about Jane being unconventional to catch killers, I'm talking about Abbott reading his criminal charges out loud, which include him chasing down and brutally murdering RJ after preventing him from dialing 911. RJ deserved to die, but Teresa spent years trying to talk Jane out of personal vengeance, and only at the end of the hunt did she acquiesce. It's still a heavy dark thing to contend with, the capacity to kill slowly for personal satisfaction, and Patrick had never gotten to look Teresa in the eye after doing the deed because he left for Venezuela directly after. I don't believe it's a coincidence his eyes flickered towards her when Abbott reminds her of that darkness; he has to be sure that she knows the worst side of him and still loves him, and his worst side is his past conning behavior (which he is confronted with in 4x03 and pointedly looks to her for support while explaining himself), and his capacity for brutality which is brought up here.
@@tatianalyulkin410 and if you're talking about him being manipulative in Blue Bird, it doesn't matter in terms of the case. But he lied to Teresa. It's crass because it was all put together to trick HER. He used someone's terrible murder as a backdrop for his dishonest method of keeping his best friend from leaving him. It was gross, and deeply hurtful to her--to have given Patrick everything he asked her for, and *still* she is unworthy of his honestly where it really mattered. He knew how hurt she was when he didn't tell her about the fake murder charges for his jury sting, and yet he still went out of his way to manipulate her, which made her feel like an idiot. He did all that to avoid telling her he loved her, and just ended up making her cry. At least he had the decency to be ashamed of himself for that.

The Bravado: "Firstly, no parole; and secondly, Lisbon has to work with me" The Note: 1) MUST WORK DIRECTLY WITH THERESA LISBON 2) ALL CRIMINAL CHARGES DROPPED

The chase and then the strangulation would be harder to defend, but given all the people that RJ killed and the whole Blake society thing, Jane could have easily stated that he fled out of fear for his safety. Any charges would be unsustainable in the light of such context.
God, Jane got infinitely more good-looking after going on the run. That beard and tan suits him down to the goddamn ground. (He should put the waistcoat back on though.)

Napkin contracts are perfectly legal as long you have three things. An offer, acceptance, and consideration. Also, Abbott did agree to those terms. That is what the signature means. Otherwise, every contract I've signed is saying that I just read the terms without agreement
Now is when Intention comes into play, even if Abbott only signed that he read it, it could be debated that he knew that Jane meant it as a contract, therefore making his signature binding to the contract and not only stating that he read it, which is hard to prove, but if the intention of the contract was clear to both parties it could certainly be an interesting case.
At that moment I hate Abbot. He betrayed Jane. He put him in jail. They deny Jane the Lisbon's letters and aditionally he noticed Kim is Fisher. Poor Jane he can't date Lisbon. After 2 years alone he can't have his moment with Lisbon.
I always thought it was odd that Jane never picked up on Kim being undercover. He reads everyone else in the series so well, except for Red John. Kim is the only other person he didn't see right through. I was surprised he was so shocked when Kim walked in the room and was revealed to be an undercover FBI agent.
Kim was being her true self during that undercover and Jane was blinded by his emotions of loneliness and homesick. I believe they argued about her "true self" when they're investigating the gypsy murder.
I think he was feeling sad. He thought he would be able to move forward but instead he couldn’t forget Lisbon. The narrated portion of the letter shows that everything he sees, he thinks about how great it would be if she were there to share it with him. The unread portion of the letter shows that he felt very regretful about leaving her the way he did. His depression may have clouded his abilities. Meeting Fischer reminded him of how much he missed Lisbon.
Jane needs Lisbon to work with him. No-one else understands how he works like she does. Reminds me of the scene in Bertram's office when hes caused yet more turmoil and is trying to get Lisbon her job back and he says to Bertram "you know who's always had ahealthy moderating influence on me". Bertram really has no choice but to reinstate Lisbon or face more trouble from Jane.

I have qualms about Abbott’s train of thought here. Whether he likes it or not, Jane is here because he wants to be, not because he has no other choice. It seems like Abbott genuinely believes here that the two options he’s presenting to Jane are the only two possible outcomes. That would mean either he’s foolish enough to not realize Jane has other plans and a viable way to make them happen, or he’s arrogant enough to not care.
