Would love to hear more about Freddie’s experience of this! He ran a marathon? He ran a marathon at Andy’s speed? He carried stuff for Andy? He also filmed?! WILD.
Absolutely loved this podcast. I decided to run my first marathon since 2007. So I signed up for Copenhagen in May. I'll be 58. Then, just for fun I put my name in for the lottery for Berlin in September and against astronomical odds I got picked. So, I'll on deck to run two marathons in 2024. So excited, but absolutely terrified.
I'm so jealous of your Berlin lottery win. I'll be 72 in a few days and registered months ago, but couldn't get a start in that race. I'm running my first marathon in April.
I was there too Andy. Perfect day, perfect marathon. Ran a 16 min PB. I got Tour de France vibes in those last 2kms. Talking about the expo... why is it always that people seem to be going there fully equipped? Like they're thinking: just in case they suddenly change the starting time, I'm ready!
I've been looking forward to this since last weekend. I'm sure it's going to be worth the wait. Congrats Andy on your first 42, may there be many more.
Andy, Welcome to the exclusive club of marathoners .. but most of all .. I love the dynamic between you 3. Please keep it up and I hope to meet you all at a future marathon !!
Well done Andy! Brilliant debut! You may have suffered but your pace barely dipped. Phenomenal! Absolute star ⭐️ Just an edit: New York Marathon is very narrow for the last few miles as it’s in Central Park, no barriers. Great atmosphere!
This podcast is 🔥🔥fire!🔥🔥Great job, Andy! As a viewer, it's very encouraging to see the presenters progress: for example, seeing Sarah go from not meeting her goals in Berlin to getting a PB while being jet-lagged in Tokyo. Similarly, it's really encouraging to hear that despite his doubts post-35k, Andy wants to do another marathon, and smash his previous time. As a relatively new runner (1 year), my recent half marathon didn't go to plan and I slowed greatly at 15k, but experiences like presented here as well as seeing the small gains over time (I have a chart of my average heart rate vs half marathon pace for each half marathon I run) give me the confidence that I can work toward and achieve my goals in running (and I suppose life by extension).
I really enjoyed hearing you talk about your marathon experience. I'm training for my first half marathon and just completed my longest run so far of 12K. I thought that was tough! lol Thanks for continuing to inspire all of us!!
First off congratulations on your first marathon and welcome to the club! As a much slower runner than Andy you don't know how good it feels to hear he has the same thoughts and problems as slower runners. Thank you for the honesty!!!! Next time I'm not sure if I can go on or have doubts and fears I will know I'm not alone, much faster people think and feel the same things. I'm not alone and we can all be mentally together in this. ❤ Also glad I'm not the only one with runners brain after a marathon. Keep up the amazing work all 3 of you and the rest of the running channel as well!!!!❤❤❤
Easily the best podcast, and I have listened to every episode at least twice (podcast during running, UA-cam during work). You three were in absolute top form, and this felt like a milestone episode.
I ran Valencia some years ago and definitely one of the most memorable finishes of the 60 odd full marathons I have run - Rome and Frankfurt are pretty special too!
What a great podcast/video! Honest answers from someone who has just run a marathon, talking about the pain and the pleasure. It's funny how quickly we forget the pain but learn so much from the experience. Well done Andy, congratulations.
Awesome, Andy. I've enjoyed this whole series. (To now talk about me) I did a 30 km mountain race with 1600 m of climbing this weekend and I can empathise so much with what you were feeling in those last few km.
Greetings from València! And yes, the river overflowed once filling the entire city with dirt and mud. It was so bad that they diverted the course to prevent future catastrophic events. Fun fact: they almost turn the riverbed into a highway (lol) but then decided a park would be better. Wise decision imho :)
Congrats on an amazing first Marathon, Andy! I vote you do the Athens marathon! Not a super fast one like Valencia, but it pretty special to do the "original" marathon in some capacity.
Yess amazing work Andy! It was so much fun to see you and Freddie chip away at those kilometres (and to be one of those random people shouting at you both😂). Very impressive!
Well done Andy! You did it! Can’t wait to see the video. I’m so glad you want to do another marathon. I would love to see you do London Marathon and get swept up by the crowds.
Congrats Andy! What an accomplishment! Love the podcast and definitely enjoying the longer episodes! While I do understand the importance of maintaining a schedule, I wish certain bits weren’t cut short. Would love to hear more questions and more elaboration!
So proud of you Andy! I tried to strike up a conversation with someone in London (no luck). My comment was "this is a bit long isn't it". Well there is the Marathon du Medoc and Bacchus where Rick might have the advantage.
Phenomenal achievement Andy! Thank you for remaining an inspiration, and for your honesty as to the highs and lows of a marathon, allowing us to understand that these are shared emotions between elite athletes, regular and back-of-the-pack runners.
Congratulations Andy, I'm delighted that you did it and are so pleased with the experience. Based on what you said, I would recommend a smaller marathon next time (apologies if that's a really obvious suggestion!). I thoroughly enjoyed Eindhoven marathon this year - a field of about 3,500 runners, the aid stations weren't crowded, the course was incredibly flat and collecting my number took me all of five minutes. Not only that but the start and finish were in close proximity to the centre of the city and a load of hotels, so you could get into your wave easily and despite being in the third wave I crossed the start less than three minutes after the gun went off. I'm genuinely struggling to think how I could find a better event for my next one!
Congratulations, Andy! That is crazy fast and to think it’s your first 🥳💛 Wondering how fast can Freddie go when not filming 😅 He might not want to be on camera but I would love to see him as well.
Would love to see a series about Rick trying to beat his marathon PB. Would be awesome to follow. Especially as Rick has recently (and still is probably to an extent) recovered from a big leg injury. It could be an inspiring series.
Congrats Andy, loved following your training and progress - looking forward to the race video. Also loving the podcast - the three of you seem to have a ball - TRC must be a lovely place to work
Congrats Andy. Welcome to the club!. Can't wait for the video of the race. You did great & I totally love and resonate with the bit where you said you were humbled & how Sara did great to explain how there's just so many angles to learn & pick from a marathon that we just keep coming back. It's the best!!!!. Keep having fun Rick 😊 Good job y'all. 🎉. Onto the next 💯💪🏾
awesome job!!! I really love this sport and the camaraderie -- the next marathon needs to be one in California ...ooh maybe the fast CIM in Sacramento that happens the same weekend as Valencia. Although running in San Diego or Huntington Beach would be more scenic : >
Congrats! I'm really proud of you and holy CATS 4:05 per km! 👟👟🔥🔥Andy, I'm nowhere near your class (nonelite jogger here 😂), and I'm over 50 AND I have tiny little legs, but you've inspired me to do my first marathon (or at least one more 1/2....😅)
Amazing work Andy, well done. I can totally relate to your ‘wall’ experience. During my first marathon in Edinburgh this May, at 48, I felt elated during the first 6 to 8 miles on way out of the city down to the coast. From 8 to to 18miles I settled into a happy rhythm, got to Gosford House at about 19 miles then ‘BOOM’ - should I stretch, walk, re-hydrate, take in gels? Answer: No, I’ll shuffle, shuffle, shuffle all the way to the finish 😂. Glad I did finish as a’run’, like I’m glad you did. By the time I got home that night I booked an early-bird entry for 2024 Edinburgh Marathon, knowing I can train better, out-fox the wall and maybe even look in a better condition at the finish 🤣……..I’m aiming for sub 4-hour - your time at Valencia is outstanding 🤜🏽🤛🏽
Congrats Andy, great debut 👏 your experience of the wall sounds very much like mine on my 1st marathon. Not a lack of energy, just muscle pain and cramp. I think more training miles and more long runs helped me in subsequent mara's where I went quicker
I’m training for my first marathon in May, and this podcast scared the sh*t out of me. If it was this hard for Andy, given his training, I might be setting my sights a bit high. 😂
Congratulations! I'm hoping to do my first marathon next year. At the moment it's kind of hard to train for longer distances because of all the snow and cold weather. Running gets rough during winter up at northern Europe.
Yaaay, well done, Andy! 🎉 Can't wait for the video to come out. You should consider doing Berlin! I can pace you for the first 100m. Then I'll die, because your pace is crazy 😂😂
Come and do Snowdonia Marathon at the end of October together and have a cup of tea at the top of mile 24 🎉🎉 This will be a amazing new experience and a totally different experience to any other marathon ❤
What an amazing achievement. Loved the interview and following Andy's training etc. Indeed all of you are an inspiration and, as you say, hopefully getting people to start their own running journey's BUT all I hear in most of your films (and I'm thinking about this one and Sarah's marathon feature) is centred ultimately upon your finishing time. In other words, the faster you go, the better you've done and this seems at odds with my experience. I won't bore you with detail but in the last marathon I ran, my aim was to run SLOWER and enjoy the experience MORE. to take more in, to talk to other athletes more and hopefully remember more of the day and actually it's quite hard to make yourself run slower sometimes :-) I've only been running for 6 years (but I've run every day of that time) and I guess my philosophy comes from a previous life as an endurance cyclist completing (not competing) in AUDAX events where at one finish line which was 30km longer than the 300km advertised a complainant was reassured by the organiser that they had actually got "more for their money and wouldn't be charged extra!" I'm passionate about 'the running experience', what we can learn about ourselves and the struggles and challenges that presents but should we be so obsessed with lap time, splits and the time at the finish line. Sorry if I seem a bit of a renegade, you'll find me in the cafe at mile 25 watching the big clock :-) Please keep on putting out all the wonderful content that you do. Best Wishes, Winston
Oh my, hard to imagine the difference standing on the line as a pro in a middle-distance race vs in a marathon. Well done making the transition, Andy. Also, good to hear that Rick is running 4:15 Ks.
It still blows my mind that there is someone whose job it is to run alongside Andy and film him at a 4.05/km pace for a whole marathon.
Freddy has to be a super sayian
Wait…I didn’t think about that. Someone ran with him the entire time, including part of it backwards?!?!?
Congrats, Andy. I ran behind you the whole way in case you passed out, I was there to stop your Garmin. Cheers.
😂
Stop Stava first 😂
@@robintaylor1466 Garmin uploads to Strava so...
I thought he had a kid stationed at every mile to stop his watch if needed
When are you guys going to feature Freddy? I'd really like to see the team behind his attempt at a PR.
I agree! We need Freddy!!!
Would love to hear more about Freddie’s experience of this! He ran a marathon? He ran a marathon at Andy’s speed? He carried stuff for Andy? He also filmed?! WILD.
This!
Freddie is clearly superhuman! We definitely need a specific video for Freddie!

I love how the Marathon bug catches people.
Andy hated the long runs in training, was a 10/10 for pain in the race but already wants to do another 👍

Well done Andy! Brilliant debut! You may have suffered but your pace barely dipped. Phenomenal! Absolute star ⭐️

Happy for you, congratulations. Can really feel how proud you feel. So do we all feel for your achievement.

Congratulations Andy! So nice to hear of Freddy too - I remember how encouraging he was to Sarah in her mara video, the ultimate marathon cheerleader!
Congratulations! I turn 42 in 2025. It’s my plan to do my first marathon - the Cape Town marathon - that year to celebrate 🤭😮💨🙏
Amazing!! Let us know how you get on 😁
Congrats Andy! 🎉 You smashed it! Best running podcast. Love you guys. ❤ P.S. Sarah's laugh is contagious, love it! Greetings from Croatia.
