One of the most important sentences in the European Standard EN 381 , to which these gloves have been certified, is "no PPE can guarantee 100% protection".
I would even go further than this movie and add , give me a decent chainsaw and I will cut through any chainsaw protective clothing. In fact, all garments are tested in the same way, which is that engine power is cut off when the blade drops. This way an equal and comparatif outcome can be achieved through different labs across Europe. But of course, this is very different from the test in above movie, with full power on all of the time. The EN test is a basis for safety, and cannot be but the last barrier, after proper training and good practice. Which in this case would be use both hands to hold the machine.
(if you would want 100% protection, the required blocking material would have to be so thick and uncomfortable that you may even risk a different kind of accidents, caused by reduced maneuverability.)
Additionally; the Chainsaw Standard for Chainsaw Protective Gloves was initially developped in a time when most accidents still happened because of broken chains. And with machines lacking chain brake or catcher, there was a risk of the loose chain hitting the upper left hand holding the top handle of the machine.

Thank you for this insightful information. As you have (hopefully) seen the whole movie? The purpose wasn't to question you (the manufacturers) or that the gloves aren't meeting the EN 381 standard, but to make users aware, that by wearing these gloves, they aren't 100% protectected ( as you mention in your comment) But these days there are still many users out that think that gloves with saw protection are there to use/operate (top handle) chainsaws by one hand, what is definitly not the case. And as you (hopefully) also have seen in my other movie ( ua-cam.com/video/OGa-6OLdGaE/v-deo.html ) regarding minimum required PPE when working with a chainsaw, that 80% of your safety is in Maintenance of your machine & Work technique/training and that PPE and safety functions (20% of your safety) is there to capture the rest risks. And another movie regarding the ISO 11681-2 regulations( ua-cam.com/video/NUhJb3ics28/v-deo.html ) But to end this answer it's to make users aware that gloves with chainsaw protection aren't as effective as trousers with chainsaw protection. :) Thanks SIP protection for making such a great clothes and reminding me that I wasn't subscribed to your channel yet, but now I am. Are you also subscribed to my channel? Stay saf! JMOT

I don't think any glove could survive that! But I thought for a momentary cut, which is more likely to happen, that the Echo would seem to provide the best protection of the group. Anyone concur?

Chainsaw gloves are only rated to 16m/second chain speed.
So they only intended to work in off trigger / deceleration contact situations.
    Interesting video though!👍

These 3 types of gloves were all Class 1 (20m/s) Type A (palm protection)

Finally a honest video about chainsaw gloves. Still a little protection is better than none at all, so I will still wear thicker gloves to give my hands as much protection as possible..

Hola, yes it will protect better your hands, but for me (personal) it's limiting my movements to much. :)

Can you redo the test under more "typical" situations. Chainsaw low throttle or fast idle, lower rpm which is typical. Who runs a chainsaw full throttle next to someone's hand?? The test in the video demonstrate an incredibly atypical situation. More likely someone just stopped cutting, or is moving to a new cut... loses balance and touches the bar with the blade still running. (Which obviously is bad practice to have the saw free to spin when moving!) I always use the saw brake *any* time I'm moving my feet between cuts... it takes 1 second to brake and 1 second to release, so why not?)

Thanks a lot for your videos. I appreciate them. Even if the gloves might not prevent a chainsaw from cutting through, they do offer better grip in wet conditions or when the moisture in the air is high so in my opinion, there is a place for gloves. Some also offer vibration dampening which decreases fatigue in the hand and which in turn is safer because there's less of a chance of an accident.

The point of the video is how the cut protection does not protect from 36cc chainsaw.
Gloves though are a must, but not to be relied on as a shield.

You should always wear gloves when you work with a chainsaw. As you mention to have a good grip, reduce injuries and to minimize the risk of the white finger syndrome. The regular working glove should be more than enough, you don't need those with saw protection.

You probably do not uderstand how these type of gloves work. Unce you just touch your hand with saw chain you STOP pushing trigger and do not go full throttle. And in case like this, these gloves can really
    reliably protect your hands.
This video is showing just how to cut your gloves in half. Not real use in real conditions.
    No offence, just truth.

I'd rather see video proof that that actually works. Takes very little time to cut off fingers, given the gloves depend upon you seeing it and reacting in time....

Specially with the top handle, I have bitten my left hand 3 times now,, ideally these gloves should have metal to cover our wrists, I might have to make a wrist protector for myself, as this might kill me one day.
Thanks for the video, I was hoping the gloves would do a better job of protecting instead of just making the work harder

What a waste of money by testing something WAYYY outside of its design.
I’ll keep wearing my Stihl Dynamic Protect MS gloves which I’m pretty sure offer the same protection in both left and right gloves

talk about a useless video. Spent more time showing us the rpm of the saw than anything else. No discussion about which glove had the most fiber protection, etc.

      Hello,
you are absolutely wright, but I'll keep my both hands always on my chainsaw so a regular working glove will protect me more than enough from throwing objects and vibrations and they give me more flexibility. :)
