    Hi Pawel, thanks for getting back to me with the link, I've just ordered it. I just want to thank you for your helpful videos too, they are much appreciated as I'm sure I would be having a greek wedding with my mugs otherwise!! Thanks again. Dave

    Hi Paul,
    Watch your videos and they are very helpful thank you...You mention in this video that most of the papers can stick to the slate...I bought some sublimation paper from SublitoCotton and use on my slate photo frame and other things and it does not stick at all to anything. They also sell sublitocotton for cotton sublimation as I sublimate a lot of cotton tote bags.
    Thanks for sharing these videos and keep them coming.

    Hello I have namy nice welsh smooth slates ..can I use a certaing white paint myself reather than having to buy ones with the white already on them ? Ray in Norwich UK

    • @PrintingGeek

      Ray London i am not sure if paint would work, but there is white coating available that can be sublimated. But adding coating cost will probably make it even price wise.

    Hi Paul, First of all your videos are great, purchased my first press the other day and found your tutorials great. Only thing isi've tried using a silicone sheet on top of my slate but every time i press i get a faint slate shaped mark on it. Tried rubbing off with cold and warm water but guessing as it's sublimation ink it wont budge unless its really hot. Can you advise anything I could try and use to remove it at all? Or could it possibly be scorching the sheet?
    Thanks and keep the videos coming they're great!

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  9 років тому +1

      hi there,
      I think your press is to hot. drop temp a little and try again. the matt marks on your slate is paper coating. they showing up when to hot.

    • @tim967
      @tim967 9 років тому

      PAwel Trzebuchowski Thanks, dropped temps and worked great, only thing is im using the paper that my press came with(looks like some chinese sub paper) and its soaked through the paper and onto my silicone sheet so now i have all writing on it. Can you recommend anything to remove the ink from my silicone sheet? And also can you recommend a good quality sublimation paper?

    Hello Pawel,
    This is very helpful tutorial specially for graphic designers who deal with sublimation but my question is what ink are you using to print that paper, and can you send me the link of the website where can I buy the paper you used. Thanks.

      Hi Sylejman,
      I can not include links in the comments. not sure why? but if you contact me via private message, i will be very happy to point you in the right direction. Ink is called SUBLI-rjet.

    Hi Paul, thank you so much for your tutorials - I have sublimated many many photo slates as a complete novice with your instructions and they have worked perfectly... until today. I tried to sublimate an image with writing on it and some small designs. The whole image came out with lines across the slate and the black ink also didn't sublimate properly. Any tips/hints or think where i could have gone wrong? Thanks!

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  9 років тому

      Hi Michelle. Thank you for your message. What do you mean by lines? like faded stripes or more like pattern lines that are very sharp lines? also what kind of black turned out? more brownish or more grey?

    • @mmv2156
      @mmv2156 9 років тому

      Hi Paul, Firstly, thank you for your reply! It's much appreciated! They are faded stripes, it's like some of the colour sublimated and some didn't but in lines/strips... but i used the same temperature and timings as all of my other slates and never had this issue before. The black turned out black...dark grey. Thanks again!

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  9 років тому

      Michelle Welsh It may be not long enough under your press... extend the time for about 30sec to 1 min and see if it change.

    Hi Paul, found your tutorial very good and has helped me a lot, however can you advise further about the use of the polish remover as it does not seem to work on the almost matt finish patches I find on the slates I produce.

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  9 років тому

      steven lovel Not sure what to tell you. When I have those matte marks on my slates I used polish remover and this helped. Marks was the burned coating of the paper so I actually reviewed this method now and I am not getting any marks at all. I lowered temperature and problem is gone now :)

    • @alternativeviews6151
      @alternativeviews6151 8 років тому

      +Paul Trzebuchowski what temperature do you set now ? I pressed my first slate today and had it set for 185 Celsius for 240 seconds. it wasn't too bad but I can see room for improvement.

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  8 років тому

      use 190C but much longer. try for 5minutes. this will avoid hot spots and paper should not stick with this temp.

    Can you recommend where to get a heat press from. There are lots on the market but most are supposed to be not that good. I'm after one to make slate, coasters and mats prints for a photography business.

  • @delta710
    @delta710 10 років тому +1

    Hi Pawel, Can you tell me the depth of the silicone you use as I have seen another youtube video talking about using a 6mm heat resistant felt,(though I've not been able to find anyone who sells this felt) this apparently helps the slate sink down and around the image as you press it, do you have any knowledge or experience of this/heat resistant felt. Thanks Dave

    Hey about to do our first rock slate.. Do you dip the slate into warm water with the paper on? :/ wont it go soggy? Do you have to do this? And also.. what do you mean by polish remover? Nail varnish remover.. or like wooden household polish? On the website where we bought our slates from it says 'Recommended Press temp 190 - 200 degrees / 5-6 minutes' Shall we follow that or go by 205 degrees and 8 mins like you did? Thanks! :D

      Did one last night. Came out perfect first try because of your video! Thank you! Only thing is.. there is a slight tiny 'circle' on it.. Tried using polish n didnt work.. dont know what you mean by polish remover? Is there a specific thing to buy? Thanks again! :)

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  10 років тому

      ChloeJosh Boulton Hi there :)
      I mean nail varnish remover :)
      If you have a little circle on the slate then this is burned coating from the paper.
      lower your temp dow a little and you should be alright :)
      all the best!

    Hi Pawel, Just wondered if you could advise me? I have been sublimating
    Chinchilla Glass Coasters- following the temp and times I have got, which
    are 205 degrees / 3.5 mins. I have found them coming out a bit dark,
    passable but I am not getting a pop from them. Forgive me if I am wrong but
    having seen your pictures I am guessing you are a photographer and I come
    from that back ground myself so I am getting myself tangled with under/over
    exposure (too light/too dark) and the sublimation process of temperature
    and time. For example looking at a reproduction of an image that is too
    dark how can I establish if the image has had too much time or too high a
    temperature. Sorry to be long winded and possible confusing but as the
    coasters are £5 ago it can become a very expensive learning curve very
    quickly. I would appreciate any advise from your experience. Thanks, your
    new annoying friend. Dave

    • @PrintingGeek
      @PrintingGeek  10 років тому

      Hi Dave :)
      Yes, i am a photographer :)
      I never tried those coasters but i did print on chinchilla chopping board. I think I used much lower temp and it was 190C
      What printer do you use? do u use icc profile for your prints?

    • @delta710
      @delta710 10 років тому

      Hi Pawel, thanks for getting back to me. It has been the chinchilla chopping boards I've been sublimating as you have. I use a Ricoh 3110. I tried the Sawgrass power driver and couldn't get my head round the icc profile, but as the results I have been getting on everything else have been great, t-shirts, mugs, chromalux panels I have been happy to run with the setup. The only other issues I have had have been with the standard metals (silver/gold). My confusion is knowing when to increase time or temperature with regards to light / dark results. Which way would you go first? To increase time on a lower temperature seems the most logical way to go for me. I don't know if I am making things more confusing but in relation to photography thinking stops, can this be related to time on a heat press ie a further 10 sec would be roughly a stop, kind of thing. Again sorry to be long winded, I don't expect you to know the precise answers but just an idea of how you have interpreted your results. Thanks Dave

    what settings should I use for a 20 x 20cm slate? Ive tried everything I heated slate, but are getting parts that didn't sublimated especially the black.. very frustrating! I sublimated a rectangle piece..at 205 degrees for 300 seconds, that was perfect.
