This is the kind of stuff I want to see from people reviewing cameras. I can’t stand looking up a camera and getting nothing but landscape and architecture. I wanna see these cameras performing in scenes. Thanks! Subscribed.
I agree 1000%!!!!
man youtube shadow compression is so wild.
Facts ^
For the price difference, the pocket cinema is the one to beat
It depends on what you are doing.
I'm so glad I found your channel! Making comparison with actual cinematic techniques to see how cameras stack up to each other. You're awesome man!
Really nice comparison. Thank you so much for taking the time to do a thoughtful, well-lit, controlled test! It's a very welcome change from all of the random shots of trees in a backyard at midday.
to be honest I liked the skin tone in the BM camera more..
Exactly, her face started breaking apart with RED on the clip where she's sitting.
Ye i liked bm skin tone more on low light the red looked better
They both look great
Glad your channel is in the mix, finding your tone , candor and perspective very refreshing.
dude, just came across your channel and you're my new favourite! No one is making videos like this - love it!
Really inspiring comparison while at the same time giving us a great tutorial on lighting a scene. Thanks, again Spenser please keep the tutorials coming.
Dude, blown away at the lighting man and how close you are able to get the shots. Awesome work man
This was a wayyy better comparison then the previous Arri. Thank you so much for putting this together. Much appreciated.
Your recreated scene held up so well for me I totally forgot the point of the exercise! I was drawn back to the original movie and your facial expressions, and then realized when it was over how effortlessly you made the question disappear. Nice work. :)
This actually makes me feel super content with the BMPCC4k. I had to really look at the images to figure out which was which, honestly. In any non-comparison scenario with controlled light the BMPCC4k will do a plenty fantastic job.
I was blown away with the side by side with the way the RED handled the crazy highlights vs the BMPCC4K in the first shot comparison
Your channel is amazing and extremely helpful for myself as a DP to determine what camera to use for a certain production!
@ 4:22 what is the name of that app your using to slate?
Can't wait for more videos, I feel like I could learn so much from this channel.
This and the Arri comparison were really great and inspiring videos. Thanks!
Easily one of the best technical discussions about these - Thank you!
Hahaha! LOVED that you guys mouthed the dialogue!! :D Brilliant!! You and the Mrs. keep up the great work! I will do myself a favor and start making a couple of projects using the Bmpcc 4k. Take care!
I'd love to see more "Blackmagic Pocket 4k VS" videos. I just got this camera (the Blackmagic) and I love seeing what it's capable of. Makes me super proud and excited to use it practically on something solid soon as I can! Thanks for these.
Amazing work mate! Love people who go above and beyond to try new things and bring across a point.
Thank you very much Spenser! The tests are stunning
I love you focus on a true “real world” setting. So many reviews are random and pointless. Well done again!
Awesome job! Would love to see you recreate scenes from films more. Thanks for sharing!
love your videos man, really great recreations; and they're super informative for me as I'm most likely going to pick up a BMPCC4K
Another awesome comparison video! It’s amazing how good the BM 4K was compared to the red with some sensible lighting. More of these vids please.
your comparison is amazing. I love the social network for its cinematography, so I appreciate the comparison! Keep at it!
This kind of scene recreation has to be the best way to show the cinematic capabilities of a camera. This should be the go-to method, imo.
That said, I'm loving the BM 4k's capabilities. That look is hard to beat without spending at least twice as much.
I have to say you’ve become one of my favorite Channels Cinematography wise... Little but great content! Will be looking forward for more of your videos. Also it would be really helpful if you made a video on how you color grade those footage in DaVinci. Keep it up!
I was really blown away at how well the pocket competes with the Red.
Oh wow! Thank you for the heart! Honestly I've been watching a lot of bmpcc 4k test footage and reviews, and it looks like an amazing investment. Maybe sometime next year I'll be able to buy it. I can say that you where one of the people to pull me towards it.
I didnt see that at all. The first shot alone shows how the 4k got absolutely curb stomped by the Red. And I don't even like Red.
Well done! Great comparison, man. And your shot looks just as pleasing!
I really like the mood of your video, and the cinematic references into.
You've got my subscribe !
Awesome, what i learned the most?... you're skilled at lighting and other filmmaking techniques! I had to recreate a scene from a movie in college, and it didnt look as good lol. You've inspired me to do try it again, and maybe learn more.
You did a great job man, great examples on the kind of looks you can pull off. Much love, new subscriber looking forward to more content from you.
Your wife mimed that perfectly. Great review once again. Keep em coming!
Love these video man. Can't wait to see more.
I clicked like as soon as you hit the beer. Keep up the good work bro!
I appreciate you performing this experiment!
My guy, you did your thing on these shots. last two minute of the video I forgot i was watching a Blackmagic pocket 4k review. about to see what I can do with the g7 and its kit lens.
Awesome stuff Spenser! Keep it coming!
Amazing video once again. I have so much to learn from this man
You are the best thing that has happened to youtube in quite a while!
What a compliment!
Your videos are great. I've learned a lot by watching them!
Great work. Looking forward to your next video.
We shot this over this past weekend alongside a UMP.. hope to get to editing it soon
Love these comparison videos man!
Nice comparison! I almost didn’t have a preference in the wide shot. Thanks for sharing
I love his comparisons too. But, did he shoot RAW? If not, the image out of the BMPCC4K dramatically changes as you change ISO, particularly from 1000 to 1250, unless you are shooting RAW. You have to carefully select the ISO based on the scene in order to better preserve the dark or light areas. ISOs below the native ISO are better at preserving dark details & ISOs above the native ISO are better at preserving highlight details.
I don't know the ISOs for each of the scenes in his video, but in the darker scenes, but, for example, ISO 1250 would be dramatically better than ISO 1000 in terms of preserving dark details. There is a chart from BM that shows the dynamic range for various ISOs.
Awesome, man. Subscribed. Been looking at the BMPCC 6K and found this video. Very helpful.
Man You're Doing Really Great Stuff Please Keep Doing!! And Thanks.
Man I think you really nailed Fincher's aesthetic! This is a terrific channel! Just subscribed!
Hell yes, so glad I came across this I've seen too many unhelpful reviews haha it's very refreshing to learn
I'm kinda on BMPCC rampage rn on youtube, but your vid is kinda cool even compared to much bigger channels, and I like the relaxed tone of it. Nice job, mate.
🙏🏼
I would like to see how close the Pocket 4K can get to an old school celluloid look. Maybe recreate a scene from a film actually shot on film. Blade Runner for example.
wow Spenser, first of all you are a mad lad, those shots you took are just simply stunning and you convinced me to add to my samsung nx1 the pocket4k, what a camera for 1300$. awesome review
So good!
Keep these videos coming man. Just subscribed.
Great Recreations!
Would love to see more of those :D
More to come!
do more things like this man. great reference about the camera and shots
This is some awesome videos! Great content. :)
Thanks for nice demo. Nice framing and lighting.
The BMPCC4K showing why I love it... Great video man. Great comparison... I'd pick the Pocket 4K.
Cool comparison, thanks!
amazing video! thanks for putting the effort!
Thank you for this review I'm thinking of getting a black magic.
This video is a gem. Great work
Amazing how you get that Fincher look! I wish you make some videos talking about how to achive that Fincher look (lightning, colors, lenses...). I think it would be awesome! By the way, you have a new suscriber bro!!
was about to say that
Yeah. More videos on how to get a fincher film look!
if you know what the "fincher look" is, how come you can't recreate it?
Great job! This cameras is my dream
Thank you for this very interesting comparison.
Just some curiosity, did you cpmpare them with the pocket at the higher ISO range, or will you do that comparison later?
Thanks for puting all this work into this for us.
Wow. Dope videos my dude!
amazing man! Love your videos
Like the content and approach. Nice work
Great videos. I appreciate the more practical approach to comparing the BMPCC 4K to other cameras. While the technicals are important, the outcome is more important. Great job with that. I would love to see you try and recreate some sequences from Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049 with the Pocket 4K.
Dang Blade Runner. I may do that. :-)
Dude, really nice content!
You keep making feature film comparisons with bmpcc 4k, and I'll keep watching.
best practical comparison so far
Man just wanted to say this: You should have way more subscribers..
Quality content here! Keep it going
🙏🏼
Love the idea to recreate a shots from movies ) I also really like this slightly underexposed shots aesthetic, seems like you fan of it as well :) Good work on this man, shoutout from Ukraine!
Glad you liked. More to come. :-)
Great comparsion! Looking to maybe get the pocket as a b cam for our red Scarlet-W. But the next comparsion I would love to see next from you is BMPCC4K vs ZCAMe2. I think many are trying to make a decision between the 2 atm. I know it might be hard to get still :)
Do you think it is smart to invest in the Sigma 18-35, which i think is an EF-S mount? I have the feeling that i can't use it whenever i would sell the pocket 4k in X years. Currently i have a canon 24-105 F4L, which on the other hand has IS and F2.6 with speedbooster and a very wide zoom range. AND IS FULLFRAME. HELP PLS
MANNN I LOVE THESE VIDEOS COMPARING THE BM4K
Beautiful work! Would love to see more scene recreations with the Pocket 4K. Mine's on order!
Nice job Spenser ! Thank you
This was dope, and you have a dope style lol
How good is Rokinon Cine DS lens compared with the lens used in the video for BMPCC4K?
Nice work on the final scene.
Great recreation of the scene!
Hey man thanks for the video. What is that top handle/cage that you have on your RED?
You literally have the most perfect loft to be able to re-create movie scenes like this. You can do anything with your layout and wall of windows.
Hi Spencer!! In which format and resolution do you render your BMPCC 4K footage to upload for UA-cam??? Been trying to upload some edits from DaVici Resolve to UA-cam but it seems to loose some quality even though i adjust the quality to 1080p in mi YouYube player...
It’s always going to lose quality. Best practice is to upload the biggest file that makes sense for you because it will be compressed again by UA-cam.
Could you do a video on the colour grade process so we could see the image as shot to get a better idea of how to get end result ...really liking your videos so far 1!
This is a great video!!!! Thank you!
Impressive video, you've proved that nowadays it is enough to have a pocket camera and a talent to shoot a masterpiece
Do you are a beast where have you been my whole career......😅 I love the comparison. I am a Sony shooter but I just bought a black magic 4K and 6K.
And you have already leveled up my gay thanks for the great content instant fan
I’m sure in resolve the shots look way better on the red but after rendering and YT compression they look too close to tell. The shot is going to be dictated so much more by color grading and like you said lighting than camera choice at this point. I think we’ll look back on the BMPCC4K as a watershed camera, similar to what the 5D mk II did for the film industry.
Most important question: what was your IPP2 workflow on the RED?
I own 2 RED Scarlet-W 5K cameras and 3 Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K cameras. And Davinci Resolve licenses all over the place.
I haven't seen the RED fail like this unless you didn't shoot RAW and use the IPP2 workflow.
You really nail those shots man
what were you doing here?
interesting nonetheless.
ruby
Hi there,
Is that a slate app @ 4:22?
Can you share teh name of the app.
Thanks!
What clapperboard app were you using? iOS? Thanks!
Great stuff! More of this :)
the best intro that I've ever seen !
