He thinks he is smart because he clearly was in debate class and learned the new "style" of debate taught in schools now. It's basically oppression politics at super speed and denounce anyone who argues the opposite. There was a big controversy a couple years ago about the debate clubs going completely wild by throwing actual, traditional debate out the window.

All through high school it was pushed on me by the school that I NEED to go to college to be successful. I dropped out of high school and bought a house, I own a car and got 0 debt.
All my friend that went to college and got fancy degrees are currently working outside the fields they got degrees in struggling to pay off the college debts, have to rely on public transport and they are all pared up into groups of 3 or 4 to rent apartments.
They laughed at me for dropping out, I now laugh at them for being in debt upto their eyeballs, with nothing to show for it, because they got ripped off.

Yeah life is same here in the UK if you cannot get a job within a certain area. Too over qualified or too under qualified.
Me on the other hand being Gen X have certain skills. Lols. In which we have less education but more knowledge and skills. So we have graduated people on a higher pay grade to us who do not understand business from the bottom up. Just graduated from college with a computer programming degree and all the certificates needed to get a job in tech. I'm telling you right now as someone who has done it, a good portion of my learning was UA-cam. Even some of my teachers directed us to look at UA-cam for help if we didn't understand or needed more help on something.
With the introduction of AI some tech jobs are even going to be replaced. So pretty soon STEM could end up becoming SEM LOL. So I did the work and smart thing and went into getting a degree that at the time was considered worthy of going to college for and while in there I learn that people can easily get a job in tech without going into debt. Then, 1 year later I took the classes to get my nursing degree. Many of the nurses I worked with went straight to college and came out with debt and classes they did not need. 30K is a minimum and in MA it's around 40-50k and then they are in debt. Then they complain that what they went to college for does not get them a 6 figure salary - this is what students expect, but is obviously irrational. Now we have a person in the office forgiving random college debt which makes this situation worse since OTHER taxpayers are paying for a lot of these students that have useless degrees.
How about taking up a trade which will get you 6 figures and it will take a year or less, and then in 5 years you can own your own company depending on how talented you are.

I used to ask my coworkers two questions 1) what degree did you get and 2) what are your doing now? The people I worked with were never working in their degree field. A degree was often just a check box to determined if you were smart or not. Now days a degree is turning out to be a signal that your are nuts.

I can counteract the accounting argument. I was a bookkeeper. I started as an office clerk, proved my self-taught knowledge to my boss, and ended up doing the same job for higher pay than the college grad who came to work 2 years later. I even trained her.
I spent over 20 years with the title of bookkeeper, doing the job of an accountant for the pay of an accountant. ❤😊

The average cost to attend a private American university for 4 years is 230k when all costs are accounted, MIT which subsidizes about 50% of the cost for every single student that attends is over 300k for 4 years after the subsidies.

The act of acting like you dont understand is a style of argument when you dont have talking points to support your claim to infantilize the argument as a whole. Thus making the other person look bad by being involved in the arguments.

That's what he's saying,. "I am here to debate", said in a proud bragadocious manner. And he debated absolutely NOTHING, he just argued against published facts. Proving that university was doing nothing for him, and therefor proving the fact that college is a scam for most who attend (and that is without knowing that he is studying for a history in basket weaving)

It's not up to the college to make sure the students don't make bad decisions on which degrees they get or if they are going to even use the degree, they are offering a degree and nothing else. They are of course marketing that degree as a dream of a good life doing what you want with that degree but it's a buyer beware kinda thing. America gives you the freedom to make stupid mistakes

    * Our local police department changed requirements to have a college degree. Once they did that they found out their applicants and subsequent hires HAD NO COMMON SENSE. It took at least a decade to realize that the officers they hired without a degree but with LIFE EXPERIENCE made much better Officers.
I was a high school dropout, got my GED and with life experience I was able to find and finish a career in a field I was passionate about. Not only did I excel without higher education but I am now retired and collect a check every month from retirement without a degree.
