very cool! glad we're getting more options for amplifying modelers! Looking forward to the shootout with the Fender FR12! I have an FR12 and I find it sounds really good at lower volumes but once I crank it up to rehearsal/gig volume it loses all it's thump, and it craps out on the chugs.
Rockin demo! I run two redsound mf10 cabs from Italy and they are pricey but to my ears the best in the biz. You gotta try and get one and do a shootout with the tonex and a few others possibly . Killer work man 💪👊
I use a Vox 50 Go in the same way. It’s my stage monitor/amp set to “Line” which is FRFR. The direct signal goes to the FOH PA through a DI. It has a 3 band tone stack tuned to guitar. I’ve gotten compliments from musicians on the sound. This thing gives me much similar vibes. Oh, it has a kickstand too, lol.
Yeah see the beautiful thing about what Fender did - is they came up with a reasonably priced option that was better than everything else and simple to use while looking amazing. I'm done paying $799 for a speaker - that's too close to the price of a decent tube amp. I could almost buy 2 Fender FR12s for that. Swing, and a miss.
Fender FR 12 is $599 US and likely cheaper for a reason. The early FR cabs were plagued by unexplained hiss, which seems to have been fixed. But you're unless you're getting a stellar deal used you're not buying 2 for the price of a ToneX
@@sunnibird You are right - Fender should have owned that issue earlier on. That said what they did deliver is amazing once that issue was resolved. Let me be clear - FRFR is a compromise. It will NEVER be as good as a tube amp and cab because of the nature of what it is. It's an imitation of greatness. I've heard their praises for 15 years now from the Atomic CLR to the Matrix to (filling in the blank). I've tried them all and they all stink - when you play FRFR it sounds like playing in a tin can down the hall. That said - the Fender FR is the BEST of FRFR I've heard. As a bonus - it's priced very fairly. For me - if I had $800 in my pocket - I'd buy a Marshall DSL40 or Blackstar Club 40 or Fender Hot Rod Deluxe (few hundred more) or a Boss Katana Artist. Also - you can shoot videos with those and have the camera mic actually sound good.
Thanks for this! I'd LOVE to see/hear one of your good ol' fashioned shootouts between this new one vs. the established Fender FR12 that you reviewed a while back. Is one better than the other for metal? Only one way to find out :D

I will likely grab another powercab plus when i see a miny one at a good price--if you have helix its awesome but great with kemper headrush etc
I’m not sure about FRFRs. I had a kemper kone, liked it, but preferred playing thru monitors or actual guitar speakers. Has anyone done a powered guitar cab not flat, but with guitar speakers? I would be on board with that.
Love your stuff bro but from here it sounds like an am radio. Sorry if that sounds harsh. Maybe it kicks but in the room!? Hard to know. As always, love your video a though. I'm an old school guy. 412 and tube head only. I would like to hear this in person though.
I really like the cab but it's about 200$ more expensive than what I'd expect to pay for that. It doesn't help that I'm in Canada and with the exchange rate and the insane premium that get stapled on every US product coming in Canada. I'll be looking at a $1000 FRFR cab. At $500 I'd buy two since I run two Tonex pedal with a MIMIQ pedal in front of them. Oh well…
FRFRs are great - they’re a different beast compared to amp cabs, but using them really seems to bring the amp modeler crowd full circle in their journey away from amps lol
It has nothing to do with it. My studio is a darker sounding room because it has carpet and some sound treatment. My living room is brighter sounding because there's no room treatment and it has wood floors.
