    Greetings Sreetips, on this 4th of July weekend I want to give you a heartfelt "Thank you for your Service, Senior Chief!' one of my departed uncles told me once that Machinists and Their chiefs keep the U.S. Navy floating efficiently world wide. And from what I observe in life, I think after making Chief or better (Senior or Master) one can teach him or herself just about any darn thing they decide they wish to learn. Off the subject a bit, but some of my (now departed) who taught me that the USN is the best service in this nation. Happy 4th Senior Chief , You Rule and the USN rules.

    I think that it is something noteworthy to mention. For every ounce of precious metals you recover, from scrap, is one less ounce that needs to be ripped out of the Earth. Commercial mining, Cyanide Leeching, Mercy titration and boiling, just to mention the most reprehensible methods being used, is abhorrent! Some talk about recycling. Your doing it, and teaching others how, along the way. Well done!

    Excellent video, re the silver cell, the run time could be increased by using two containers with a porous bridge to allow the dissolved ions to pass, one plastic container with a large bag of the silver shot, and a fabric strip to the plating bowl as you use now , the only difference is it could not short out because of the bridge, an old bit of seatbelt wrapped in plastic maybe, the throughput would be limited by the cross sectional area of the ion bridge ,

    • @kwinterburn
      @kwinterburn 10 місяців тому

    I was able to buy H2O2 for $10 a gallon from Home Depot -- it was being sold as a drain cleaner that doesn't use toxic alkali or acids. The label was ambiguous about the percentage -- but the MSDS says it's 25%. I did a volume displacement and that verified it as 25%. The stuff is strong enough to give you a bleach/burn if you get it on your hands. I felt it was such a good deal that I stocked up on it. It has since gone up to $31 -- it's called Super Cess-Flo

    @sreeptips. I would like to say that I really like watching your gold refining videos, they are really informative to watch. I have a question to ask, you normally use 3 different types of gold Karat jewelry in your refining process, what karat gold do you get from your final yield you never mention that after your refining is done.
    Please clear this confusion.
    P.S. I watch your videos all the way across the globe from Pakistan!

    • @korrasera2417
      @korrasera2417 10 місяців тому

      Karat is a measurement of the purity of gold. When sreetips refines 18k gold, he's refining metal that's around 75-80% gold, the rest being other metals alloyed with the gold. By refining this material, he's concentrating the gold and purifying it, increasing the karat. This means producing gold that's anywhere from 99% to more pure. When sreetips 'three nines fine' he means that it's a batch that is 99.9% pure batch of gold, with less than .1% impurity. This level of gold purity is 24 karats or 24k gold. Pure gold, basically.

    • @bilalsharifshafiq

    I notice that the gas-precipitated gold handles better, in that it clumps to itself more readily. The salt (I'm guessing largely NaCl) that is left from using SMB probably interferes with the cohesion of the gold particles. Question: Between hydrogen peroxide and nitric acid, which is more economical for dissolving gold?

    • @sreetips

    When you did the SO2 gas, and you said something about not needing to rinse it over and again, yadda yadda....but then you had to anyway? I'm curious what you think happened there? I'm wondering if it may have been tiny, tiny flecks of pure gold you were rinsing away, sort of like flour gold for prospectors?

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  10 місяців тому +2

      Normally I melt the pure gold into a bar. Before melting it’s best to rinse the excess SMB off and do an acid boil. But this gold will be sold as powder/sponge by the gram. So I did all those water boils at the end to get all the acid rinsed off the pure gold sponge.

      Metals density. Gold, Platinum, Platinum & Rhodium are extremely close in density. So they travel together in the refining processes. While less dense metals like Silver, Copper, Brass & Zinc are more easier to be put into solution during the refining processes because they're less dense. In the refining of precious metals. Their's a series of steps and techniques based on metal density. You can't have element 7 until you have removed element 1 through 6. I think that's the best way I can explain your question based on the knowledge I have but I could be wrong... L0L

    Is there anything special about the red fumes? I was wondering if you could collect the red fumes into like an air filter to collect some precious metals of some sort?

    Would using a fritted glass end (like on an aquarium bubbler) on your gas delivery tube help you make more efficient use of the SO2 you generate? I know that some of the gas coming out of the tube is air from the apparatus, at least initially. But it’s sad to see some of the gas escaping when it cost you money to make it.

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  10 місяців тому +1

      The delivery tube must be 1/4 inch or greater or else it gets clogged up with gold.

    can you please give us more details how to do calculation to add sterling silver to gold scrap ?such as 20 kt of gold how much sterling silver should to add ? cheers

      He has some very clear instructions in his earlier videos. He’s basically figuring the gold content by carat weight, using that to calculate the base metals already with the karat gold then adding sterling silver to equal 75% base metals and 25% gold as a final alloy once melted down. I think this is correct. I have watched a LOT of Sreetips!!!

      20k is 20/24=0.833 or 83.3% pure gold.
      So a hundred grams of 20k will have 83.3g of pure gold and 16.7g of base metals.
      Multiply 83.3 x 3 = 249.9g of silver, minus the 16.7g already in there, equals 232.2g to inquart. I reduce it a little so 232.2 times 0.95 equals 221.5g it’s all basic math.

  • @anthonyrstrawbridge
    @anthonyrstrawbridge 10 місяців тому +1

    And so we started with 190.2g scrap karat gold or .667 pure karat scrap
    Estimate 101.81g ..999 gold and
    88.4g .333 other metals.
    Can the the melted.667 pure karat scrap be adjusted up to .750 /18k with an addition of 8.3% / 8.45g 24k thus resulting in a refined 18 karat 198.6 gram bar?

    • @sreetips
      @sreetips  10 місяців тому +2

      Possibly, if your math is correct.

    • @anthonyrstrawbridge
      @anthonyrstrawbridge 10 місяців тому

      @@sreetips Yep, it's off but the short math was worse/ heavy at 190.2+15.786 24kt = 205.986 18kt bar.

    Odd question for you Sreetips:
    Pre-82 pennies are 95% copper/5% zinc - would it be possible to inquart your scrap gold with pre-82 pennies, or would the presense of the zinc be a problem?
    (I understand why you inquart with sterling. I'm just curious about whether it would be theoretically possible)
