Steve Heighway is my first football hero, I had a Liverpool top with his No.9 on it, possibly got it in 1972 as a wee boy! Also interesting to see a free kick being taken within the penalty box, I wonder what the infringement was as the back pass rule didn't exist then!
Daglish’s first season for Liverpool and he wins the European Cup! Interesting to see him before Ian Rush joined him in attack. What a lethal partnership they were.
Wow! Thanks so much! I've been wanting to watch that back for 46 years! I think that was my first game in the Kop. Until now, I was so convinced Heighway's goal had been disallowed, but now I see he just missed. Bento is the smallest keeper I've ever seen. He must have been the shortest on the pitch
Steve Heighway undoubtedly the man-of-the-match in this particular game. What a great servant he proved to be for Liverpool throughout the 1970s with so many crucial goals and assists. Signed from Skelmersdale United in the old Northern Premier League in 1970 under the great Bill Shankly as part of his re-structuring of the team. As crucial to Liverpool's style of play and trophy-winning mentality as other more-vaunted players like Kevin Keegan and Kenny Dalglish during this period - in my opinion.
Steve Heighway I believe scored 76 goals for Liverpool but he had so much more assists, he had the ability to get the ball into the danger area with his pace and skill to beat players, he assisted n 2 goals in their first European Cup final, a key player for many of Liverpools suggests with a style of his own.
Bento, stalwart goalie for Portugal but had a nightmare at the Kop end! Also this was a great 'face off' in the battle of moustaches, although I didn't see Graeme Souness on the pitch lol
Great to see a goal scored from a poor back pass, all these years later players still don't appreciate the fact of not playing football In your own area,Get Rid of it,Is the Mantra😊
What a player Steve Highway was, no wonder the Kop sing about him still..❤❤
Thanks for putting this game on here. It was my 1st reds match I saw live as a teenager with my grandad. Great team - great memories! 👍

Possibly obstruction
Yea same here, Steve Highway, what a player, best winger in European football at the time.
He took the high ball down abd set
up volley that shaved the post in one move. Amazing technique.
Probably would have been obstruction. It doesn't seem to apply any more.
Free kick would have been for an obstruction. Don't see fouls given for that v often any more.

Je ne l'ai jamais trouvé très bon en coupe d'Europe.
Steve Heighway and Kenny Daglish, Irish-Scottish Connection, fantastic Game here.
3 days later....LFC were at Wembley for The League Cup Final (Forest 0 - 0 and Forest wom replay) big games thick and fast.
King Kenny Dalglish !!!! What player ! And what great team in the magic Anfield atmosphere...
