I find that people have a lot of trouble changing their breathing patterns but I managed to change mine and it really improved my entire life. My years of esoteric medical study lead me to this: -To stop chest breathing, place your fingers in the triangle near the bottom of your chest, and simply think of moving the breath past this point, do not move your chest when you breathe. No movement above this point, no shoulder raising. -The exercise: Fully exhale all air from your lungs, even if it leads you to cough etc, it may feel uncomfortable. Then take in a HALF full breath. FULLY exhale again. Then take in a FULL breath. Fully exhale again. That's it. The exhalation is extremely important and the half breath makes it possible, without getting too dizzy.
