Weekly Playboy has no affiliation with the Playboy magazine. I think they get away with this blatant trademark infringement by the technicality of their official name not being Playboy but プレイボーイ (playboy but transliterated in Japanese katakana). Weekly Playboy hasn't had nudes in them for decades so it's not considered Nudie mag anymore.

They had the trademark in Japan long before the American Playboy had a regional version in Japan. It was published by the same company as Monthly Playboy until 2009 so there has never been any copyright issue to speak of.

Nope, American Playboy has had a trademark on "Playboy" in Japan 5 years prior to Weekly Playboy first ever issue.

the IHI Stage Around show in the show is a real place that they use, it does indeed exist

🤯 that's quite the engineering accomplishment with so many seats...

Unfortunately, it no longer exists. It was closed in April 2024. Why? It was only a temporary attraction/experiment that was supposed to last a few years. Originally until the 2020 Olympics, but because of Covid and the postponement of all performances it was extended until the end of the 2023 fiscal year.

@@Amrod97 quite unfortunate indeed, tho there are other of the same Stage Around concept that exist in the world still atleast so we could still experience it, just at other stage

14:58 Well, even Oshi no ko has an author and an artist

15:00 Speaking of manga where it's an artist and an author that's exactly the case for Oshi No Ko, the writer is Aka Akasaka creator of Kaguya-Sama Love Is War and the artist for the manga is Mengo Yokoyari the mangaka for Scum's Wish (She originally got her start with hentai doujins). Also yes Dr.Stone is like that too Boichi does the art (famous for stuff like Sun-Ken Rock he got his career started in hentai doujins as well like tons of mangaka) and the writer is Riichiro Inagaki (he also wrote for Eyeshield 21 an american football manga drawn by Yusuke Murata who is the artist for the OPM manga)

Oh yeah, Death Note and Bakuman. were both made by the same author and artist duo. On the other hand CLAMP (Chobits, Cardcaptor, xxxHolic, Tsubasa Chronicle, etc) is a group of four women, although I don't remember how their roles are split.
Great commentary again. The part about the assistants needing nurture and guidance is actually so important in their publishing system and work pipeline over there. As much as I like Abiko, it almost hurts to imagine the future careers she might've nipped in the bud over messy backgrounds.

Yeah IIRC Dr. Stone has separate writer and artist. Boichi does the art. He has other works where he did both art and story though.

In that scene in the manga, Ruby never mentions "Playboy." I think they auto-translated a Japanese magazine name into "Playboy" instead of keeping the original Japanese name.

These episodes keep being great even after reading ahead a bit loved the argument part it was something I was looking forward to being animated loved the music and voice acting it was just as good as I imagined it when I was reading and I feel like alot of the manga author stuff comes from the heart from aka given he as retired form drawing manga. And for non spoiler answers to questions playboy thing that line wasn't in the manga it was just like in episode one ruby talking about what B komachi has done into ruby saying she doesnt feel out of place in the class anymore but given the target audiance of idols is 16-35ish I would not be surprised, 90% certain that the audience moving is accurate given Stage Around is a real thing tho there are only 2 or 3 locations iv also heard they might be opening one in the US, and ya one person doing the art and one person doing the story manga is becoming more and more common because as described weekly manga is a impossible task solo and oshi no ko is one of them Aka akasaka creator of kaguya sama love is war is doing the story and Mengo Yokoyari creator of Scums Wish is doing the art.

This argument was also the one scene from this arc which I wanted to see animated most and I must say, anime did not disappoint. Probably one of the best parts of Tokyo blade imo.

I think the reason "I'm not very good at backgrounds" comes across weird is more a cultural disconnect than anything. In Japan the socially correct thing to do, especially in a professional setting with people you've just met, is to put yourself down a little "I'm inexperienced" "I might make mistakes" and then say you hope to work well with them anyway.
