Since you're still running stock boost the misfire is odd, the LH2.4 EZK changes the ignition timing when it detects knock and also tell the ECU to basically flood the engine until the MAF sees a reduction in throttle and this happens usually right around 4kRPM when running too much boost without a chipped ignition. Your goldie dyno video shows the EZK anti knock feature quite well when you do the pull before tuning, the AFRs go way rich. This may be MAF related, mine did the same thing but inverted, crazy misfires on low RPMs but then started pulling really well once I got past 3k, for me it was a shitty soldering fix a previous owner had done to the MAF connector, right inside the rubber that surrounds the connector. It shorted 12V into one of the signal pins on the MAF itself and fried the electronics partially. After replacing the MAF itself + the connector it ran fine.
I'm not a Volvo owner, if it were me, I 'd also try a MAF as suggested. Pull one off your other cars. A severe boost leak in my car, such as a stock open BOV, would cause a symptom like this. Bad cool pack bad igniter (assuming Volvos use these?). Dope wheels though, I love the look of both sets, hard to choose a clear winner!
Hey on that misfire, i would definitely check timing. Maybe the belt jumped a tooth or your distributor needs adjustment. Had the same problem with my 90 corolla. Worth a try
Seems like the maf is hitting the end of its range; since they're non linear devices obviously, clean it up if you haven't already. Reason I'm being granular: I had a similar issue after I chipped the ECU and EZK. The maf was dirty, the big connector at the ezk box caused two days of downtime and the box was going bad. I tested later on and found the same high end cut and finally there was my code: crank signal intermittent. Yours has 2.2 so you've got the sensor in the dizzy. Try swapping those two things one at a time. Usually they don't go slightly bad but old electrolytic caps do. Hard to call here and yes, I'm the guy running 13 surge 11 normal with t5 440s without a bog on a nearly stock motor. That's my DD.
dope car man! ;D i think this is a fuel related problem. check ur fuel pressure, change the fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator if you have a spare one. this can also be the fuel pump that is getting old and cant keep the pressure on the high end. you can also try to lower your boost level to see if it gets any better. if so it's defenently fuel related.
Make sure your timing is correct! On the 2.2 cars with ezk117 you can adjust the timing by loosening the two 10mm distributor bolts and move the distributor counter clockwise to advance the timing. Stock timing should be 12degrees BTDC. Plus or minus 2degrees(depending on altitude)
Just a guess on the misfire: valve float? Otherwise try decreaseing sparkplug gaps. Fuel issue would not purely be depending on revs, rather on fuel needed, so less throthle shoul make it fire good again then.
check all your basic's with that misfire dude plug heat range & gap. put a fuel pressure gauge on it check you fuel filter & pick up, fuel line's, boost ref & vacuum line's & maybe do a diagnostic to see if any of your sensor's are bung. good luck with it bro keep up the good gravy pouring work. luv this channel
I had my 90 760 on the dyno. All stock as hell. Had 274k on it. Made 131hp and 152 lbs. it was auto and had the irs. Think I had a boost leak as well. It only was making almost 6lbs. I guess this was good. Volvo said it made 162hp and 195 ft.lbs...
my 940 did the samething. it was the knock sensor but idk about lh2.2. but definitely check the pre-turbo hose (intake) to the turbo or the cbv just in case
The 16s look slightly better, but they could benefit with some restoration. That idea of messing around with the boost on a dyno is brilliant. And more scientific than Top Gear. Can't wait to see it. Meanwhile Sam is looking better and better. I replaced the fuel filter to solve those kind of cuts under strong acceleration... Cheers, mate, keep trashing those bricks with style!
My 240 has a almost identical high end misfire. Our cars are rather different as far engine management goes as mine is kjet. I’ve been suspecting it to be a fuel pump problem but that is just a guess.
Hey there bud, quick little easy tip to find out if it is fuel or spark related all you need is a simple 30 or $40 air fuel gauge and a cheap 1 bar map sensor and read your afr's to find out if it is fuel or not lol
after listening to that first pull you did on this video honestly it sounds like you have the wrong spark plugs in that engine and they are not gapped properly. You may need to go a step or two colder in your plugs and gap them a bit tighter just because the car is older and the igniter coils n such may be a little weak
Im not saying that I know the problem, but I had a really simular problem on my 940 just recently. exact same thing, pulls hard but kind of missfires on the top, turn'd out to be the lambdasond, may not be the same for you but you could try at least =)
Could be the intakehose between airbox and turbo is collapsing. It happens on old must oilsoaked hoses Hoe clogged is the airfilter? Any foam lining inside the airbox that has come lose? Of YES it might get sucked against the mesh screen of the MAF blocking the airflow into the turbo
What size were you running on Samuel at the start of the video, including the tire size? Looks great! I just bought an 88 740T and want to get wheels asap as the stock wheels arent as beefy as id like.
if it has two pumps the in tank pump or hose is probably bad. older k-jet turbo cars are notorious for that ( pretty sure the lh 2.2/ 2.4/ 3.1 fuel systems also ues the 2 pump system(except regina) ) . good luck :)
those gta wheels look dope with the gold and white combo, samuels a gravy boat indeed. keep up the good shit man, fuel might be getting bottle necked at high rpm, possibly injectors/pump.
check your afr readings It sounds like a bad tune the dyno is the best bet. I would not drive that beauty until then. I have a 940t as a daily driver 300k+
By far, the best looking car you've had.
Build the motor and throw a big turbo on it!
Hey on that misfire, i would definitely check timing. Maybe the belt jumped a tooth or your distributor needs adjustment. Had the same problem with my 90 corolla. Worth a try
Everytime the intro plays im just waiting for a woman to sing "daddy cool" :D
what song ?
Just realized you can run the 16s from the Crown Victoria with our bolt pattern. I've always loved the meshies they made for those 🤙
Stg I just found a set of crown vic meshs but they with them says they're 5x114
I like the gtas. Maybe add just a little gold trim or decal to it and it'll really pop 👍 Also my guess about the misfire is fuel pump, fuel filter.

Run tandem parallel pumps tee them fore and aft .
Use fuel flare tee on the pressure side.
I used the same power feed circuit with no issues.

A lot of things have already been mentioned, but I will jump on saying trigger or fuel related. Thanks for another good one!
Just a guess on the misfire: valve float? Otherwise try decreaseing sparkplug gaps. Fuel issue would not purely be depending on revs, rather on fuel needed, so less throthle shoul make it fire good again then.

Check spark plug gap... Older turbo cars love .025 gap. Use NGK R7 plugs. Had same issue on my turbo cars.
Bad fuel pump? Seems like it can`t deliver enough fuel at high load/high rpm.
or filter
Yea, i agree.. First i think was fuel filter

Yeessssssss, looking so good on the mesh my dude
Awesome. You finally put a good looking set of wheels on one.
My 240 has a almost identical high end misfire. Our cars are rather different as far engine management goes as mine is kjet. I’ve been suspecting it to be a fuel pump problem but that is just a guess.
Bro get some mk18 for the volvo!😁 u might be the first one in the us
LA Media in sweden they are boring, overrated and gay, in the us, it would be pretty unique
Good thing he is not in the us.
Check out redblocksociety
I hade similar missfire then i put biggers injections on my 940. It was smoking black like a diesel. Maybe test changing them.
Hey there bud, quick little easy tip to find out if it is fuel or spark related all you need is a simple 30 or $40 air fuel gauge and a cheap 1 bar map sensor and read your afr's to find out if it is fuel or not lol
Or honestly you could probably steal a gauge and sensor from one of your other cars for testing purposes there guy
after listening to that first pull you did on this video honestly it sounds like you have the wrong spark plugs in that engine and they are not gapped properly. You may need to go a step or two colder in your plugs and gap them a bit tighter just because the car is older and the igniter coils n such may be a little weak
Look at the air hose between the air filter and the turbo. it can contract when you get pressure and cut the air supply. =)
or plug gap is to high
Do you like volvo pegasus wheels?
are you ever going to buy a 240 or some older brick volvo? Would be cool to see you try some other volvos for yourself than JUST the 740's
Having the same problem on my 1991 740 turbo! Please post a video if you find the solution!
Im not saying that I know the problem, but I had a really simular problem on my 940 just recently. exact same thing, pulls hard but kind of missfires on the top, turn'd out to be the lambdasond, may not be the same for you but you could try at least =)
sounds like when you crank the boost up to high without chipping the ecu. Maybe there is some bad chips in the ecu from before?
Had the same problem on my old 740, and it was because of a bad fuel pump
Buy mk18 rims they look Good on 740
no they are waaay to used
Maybe vacumline to the fuel pressure regulator is fucked?
my did that aswell but that was becaus i ran to mutch boost think it was 1.3/1.5bar just at tip :D
really sick looking wheels on the cars I'm in love with the new look
I love the white on it
Could be the intakehose between airbox and turbo is collapsing. It happens on old must oilsoaked hoses
Hoe clogged is the airfilter? Any foam lining inside the airbox that has come lose? Of YES it might get sucked against the mesh screen of the MAF blocking the airflow into the turbo
What are those center line wheels called? They look really clean, so do the GTA’s
I bet those 2 JL audio bump like crazy jesus
In Sweden u must have MK 18
I like that little whistle can you make it whistle like that
Plug gap and fuel pressure check those
have you ported the head? maybe it's ported to mutch for your setup
What size were you running on Samuel at the start of the video, including the tire size? Looks great! I just bought an 88 740T and want to get wheels asap as the stock wheels arent as beefy as id like.
I think you should get some overfenders from acm. Se
change fuel filter, or replace the fuel pressure regulator
Sounds like ignition cut, like it's leaning out.
if it has two pumps the in tank pump or hose is probably bad. older k-jet turbo cars are notorious for that ( pretty sure the lh 2.2/ 2.4/ 3.1 fuel systems also ues the 2 pump system(except regina) ) . good luck :)
I've read about using these wheels and some have said you need to cut the studs. Is that true? Also what thickness adapters are you using here?
It used to have a tiny whistle to it
those gta wheels look dope with the gold and white combo, samuels a gravy boat indeed. keep up the good shit man, fuel might be getting bottle necked at high rpm, possibly injectors/pump.
Just to be safe id try new sparks or atleast take them out and check the wear, if its sparks your engine will be running rich.
Gold meshies on white volvos give me wood
best is 205/65r15 front 215/65r15 rear
What is the size of your adapter(5×108to 5×120) in milimeter ? Good car men !
Looks like a fuel cut to me. Not a pro tho but the first pull definately acted like it lost fuel pressure
Get some 18" rims from an 850 R.
Do you have to stay w/ 5 x 108 mm bolt pattern ?
I hope u don’t leave too much mark’s on mark!
I would remove the top and check that gasket
What do you need to mount those wheels on the 740?
do gta need adapters? i have a 93 940
Do you need adapters??
Put a fuel pressure gauge on it. Sound like fuel problem to me
Sounds like fuel cut mang. You mentioned you cut the exhaust to make ope. Dump. You are probably overboosting. And your ecu is freaking out
adapters?
maybe not getting enough air?
check your afr readings It sounds like a bad tune the dyno is the best bet. I would not drive that beauty until then. I have a 940t as a daily driver 300k+
Like the other ones way more
What bolt pattern are those wheels? The mesh GTA
5x4.75.
He is using adapters.
Or i mm 120x5x65
wtf is this intro song? cant remember the name nut heard it many times
nevermind it was boney m
buy ocean mk18 and go sweden style
Check your valve timing 😉
Boost leak!
use 18 inch mk18
16 inch
get some mk18 on the volvo
Those are baller
I think those gta rim's suit the 740 why better than the centerline's personally
Both sweet
Worn Fuel pump.
The gta's are too ghetto fabulous, the centerlines work for me.
Weak fuel pump also
17
20'
Maybe injectors
About 5grand $$5000
How about I don’t give a fucking shit size wheels
