Guys! I know it's not huuuuge numbers, but I'm blown away with how many people are watching and enjoying this video, and truly appreciate all the comments and feedback. I'm very new to this UA-cam thing and didn't know what to expect when I started posting these videos, so very happy to see it being viewed thousands of times. Wow, I feel like I've learned SOOOOOO much. Thank you for taking the time to really give us insight into how you make these decisions, big and small. And this song is fantastic, can't wait to watch another!!
@@adamlewismixing By the way i am a novice. Complete beginner. Still trying to figure out how all this works, and i learned a great deal from this video. keep it up
Dope video man Stems were pretty clean to begin with, what advice would you give to achieve this, I use focusrite with pop shield and record on logic but my vocals sound no were near this, would you suggest using a new pre amp etc
Thanks for the comment bro! That is a big question, and gives me a good idea for a future video. There's a lot of things to consider but the main thing is the performance first of all, equipment and room/booth acoustics play a massive role too. Experiment with different set ups and techniques, such as where the mic is placed, the distance you are from the mic when recording etc. Most modern microphones and interfaces are capable of capturing a good vocal sound, but the acoustic properties of the room you are recording in and how you use the mic is where you will notice the biggest differences. I hope this helps and as I say, I want to do a full video series on this soon.
@@adamlewismixing thank you so much I've got a lot to consider I'd love to watch a video on this Im subscribed and slowly getting thru Ur videos.. I think im acoustically treat my room with foam to stop the sound travelling/bouncing. Would you suggest using a portable vocal booth on the mic and small room to start any reverb from being captured... I did research and people suggested to purchase rode 1nta microphone and focusrite interface and Tigerboom stand with pop shield is there anything else you suggest I should purchase
Very very great job..liked the way you explained it! Very humbly mixed. Keep up the good work. Subbed and thumbed. I would thumb it a hundred time if it worked. ;) Shout out from Germany!
Thanks man appreciate that! I don’t do courses, in fact this is only the third time I have filmed myself mixing ha! More videos coming and maybe one day I can do a course!
could you make a video about how you leveling your mix bc i think well leveling is pretty important for a good mix, adding others effects is just like spice it up a bit
Interesting. On the piano how did make the decision of Lustrous Plate? I noticed the only effect you used from Logic was eq. Why? Are they not of good quality?
Thanks for your comments. To be honest I don’t exactly know why I chose that reverb! I probably tried a few and that one seemed to work the best, I’m sure many other reverbs would have worked just fine. And no the Logic plugins are really good these days, but I’ve been using Logic since version 7 when they weren’t so good, so I got more used to using the Waves and other third party stuff so I just stick with that. I do use a few other Logic plugins but didn’t on this particular song.
Great work bro! I subscribed straight away. I am a producer too and have enjoyed quite a few UK hits back in the day... I wanted to know who the vocalist is and if she is English. I have loads of cool instrumentals so I'd love to reach her (management) if she is in the country. You have a great studio too, just getting mine treated. Can you recommend any monitors for mixing and mastering? I might get the HEDD monitors but there are Focal, Adam, PMC, Genelec, and Barefoot to consider. My monitor budget is around £3,000. Bless - J Platz London.
Thanks for the comment man, much appreciated. Yes she is British, you can try to contact her through her Instagram @im.ni. Regarding monitors I personally use the Neumann KH310, but you can't go wrong with the HEDD or any other monitors in that range, it really comes down to personal preference at that price point. If you can listen to 2 or 3 of them in your room that would be the best thing to do, or at least demo them in store.
@@adamlewismixing Thanks King - Keep up the great work. I'll be contacting you to discuss commissioning you for mixes/mastering on some of my productions in the near future - mixing/mastering is not my strong point and your prices are competitive. I usually use Roy Merchant. Lastly, can you give me the contact for who treated your room or did you do it yourself?
Hey thanks for your comment! That is a good general rule for a lot of people, but personally for my workflow I prefer to do it like this. There’s no rules as long as the finished product sounds good!
The problem is, if there are any wishes for changes from customer side, you have to export it again from the mixing project into the mastering project, to export it from there, which can be a little time consuming especially if its only a small change.

@@adamlewismixing in future vids, could you also show how many LUFS youre getting at the end of your mastering chain? that would be super helpful :D
Yeah good shout, I forgot to open up my meters on the video! This track is at around -10 LUFS

Do you take pro tools projects? Or just the tracks to mix in logic
I work mostly from stems, i don’t use Pro Tools sorry

I designed it myself man. May do a studio tour and explain soon. Yes please bare me in mind for future projects, ready to work!
Why are you mastering out of the same project you mixed in? You are supposed to export the project into a fresh document then master it.

Yes good point!
@@ModernArtProductions you would have to do it any way given that if its something in the mix , an export takes what 15-30 seconds.
@@MrFelonyLoc there is no way you’re supposed to make music man. you make music how you want. all the matters is that it sounds good at the end
Great mixing do you teach courses cause that would be money well spent
Thanks for the comment man, I don’t currently but it’s definitely something I will consider!
How do you record and mix so clean? Mentor me please I ❤ this
Thanks for that! I am trying to show some techniques with these videos, however a lot of it comes down to time, practice and trial and error!
whats your laptop specs?
Thanks for your comment! I use a 2019 iMac 5K with the 6 core 3.7GHz i5 and 32GB of memory
