I have an original 1949 Cushman Highlander and an original 1957 Chushman Eagle I bought when I was 14. I'm 74 now. Both still have their original cast iron engine and are lots less complicated than this Cushman 2. I still ride both on occasion.
In November I had a new Chushman 2 Deluxe Highlander made for me by the folks at Kjack motors in Gardena, Calif. They shipped it to me in Arizona a month later. It got here in perfect shape. I'm riding it as much as I can. I have done my 1st. service on it myself. All was in good shape. Steve Bodnar my dealer contact in Texas and Bob Camara at Chushman 2 have been outstanding to deal with. The quality of the scooter parts and workmanship is first rate. I highly recommend the new Cushman 2.
I am having a problem replying to you individually, so I will do a general post. Gerry, yes there were some problems with the 1000 mile check up, but I would hardly cal them "serious fundamental engineering flaws". We are getting ready to do the 2,000 mile inspection video, but as of this post, all the problems we found in the 1000 mile video were corrected promptly by Cushman 2, and no failures or problems have occurred. Cushman 2 went the extra mile to make sure everything was put in proper order. Tom, sounds like you have two great machines to ride. Thanks to Gerry and Tom for replying. Our 2,000 mile check up should be up in the next few weeks.
there was no battery, or front brakes. It did have a horn and headlight and tail light. I laugh at all the mods because my model 721 was stock of course because I bought it new! No gears it had a centrifugal clutch only. Cushman went out of business years ago.
They have a Subaru Robin engine. The standard Highlander had a 9 HP version, the Deluxe Highlander, Eagle and Step Thru models have the 14 H.P. engine. It's a 404 CC single cylinder, air cooled with a overhead cam. Charging system is magneto. Brakes are single disc Brembo front and rear. Tires on mine are Michelin. I also opted for the powder coating in black and chrome wheels. The Scooters dry weight is 325 lbs. , seat height is 31 inches, length is 81 inches and the width is 32 and 1/2 inches. Max driver weight and cargo 300 lbs. Hope this helps
When you purchase a classic retro Chinese vehicle like this, you will have to perform all the R&D and upgrades that were never addressed by the manufacturer. So when you consider that on top of the purchase price and the fact it has zero collector value. It's really a poor investment. But hey if its just to look at you can fool those that don't know the difference. 😅
*FUN FACT!* *Why did I watch this?* *I don't know* *One thing I do know is never to buy a machine with so many serious fundamental engineering flaws being manifested after only a thousand-miles of riding*

I waited, all that time, to hear it run. And then you played music instead.
Doug, Great video. Nice ride!
What kind of engines do these scooters have?
The scooter has a 14 HP Subaru OHV engine.

nice scoot but I think the engineering needs improvement, as of this the build quality is subpar compared relative to the price.
