I saw this online .. “Guitarist Henry Garza wrote the lyrics as a prayer. When he was 18, his son died of sudden infant death syndrome (S.I.D.S). It's about the pain he felt and wanting to escape this world and see his son.”
The three of them are brothers, and they can all sing. The set is a typical southwest Texas scene with old Spanish missions and churches. They are Texas boys.
0:02 Britt, I hope you read this. The year they won the Grammy for best new artists, I met these guys. I was in Galveston Texas, and they were the opening act for Three Dog Night for whom you've reviewed a few songs. I went very early, no crowd, so I could be in the front row for one of the finest harmonizing groups ever, Three Dog Night. I thought I was going to have to "put up with" some typical Mexican music first. God forgive me, but that's the truth. Well, the brothers Garza just absolutely blew me our of the water. Their music was so fresh and original. Henry, on lead in this song can PLAY HIS GUITAR BEHIND HIS BACK!. Ringo on drums was superb, a maniac, and JoJo on base guitar could lay it down. So this Gringa was wowed. During their intermission, I struck up a conversation with them. I told them..." you guys are going to be famous and win awards." They were genuinely tickled at that. They teased me and said, betcha thought we were going to sing a bunch of cucaracha songs. I didn't lie....but hated myself. They laughed some more. They told me that their daddy was a musician and was looking for way to keep these brothers out of trouble. So he taught them how to play, and he drug them to play in any venue they could find. I assured them that their daddy's investment in them was not wasted. I went to Houston when they performed, and me and my friend were the only non Hispanic people there. They were amazed that this middle aged old lady knew every lyric and sang with them. That was the year they won best new artist So glad you are reviewing them. I have a CD of their first album, and it is brilliant. Sorry. Just HAD to share this.
A great Texas blues band. This album and Rockpango are 🔥. Still listen to them regularly. Road to nowhere, Hollywood, senorita, dime mi amor, fly away, change the world. All great songs.
Britt these guys are brothers - Henry(guitar) , Jojo(bass) & Ringo(drums). From Texas and got some help starting out from Willie Nelson. This was their first big hit and won them a Grammy for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals in 2004.
this song was an immediate hit. i love how songs like this just speak to all kinds of people and cultures. really shows how we are all God's children and a song like this brings up all together
Now you're in MY neighborhood, with these guys. They're from San Angelo, Texas...less than 200 miles from where I live. Texican Rock n Roll, at its finest. My all time favorite of theirs is "Crazy Dream," but they've got so many great songs... My Lonliness Dimé might Amour Loving You Always More Than Love Senorita Velvet Sky Man, the list can go on and on. I would love for you to get deeper into their catalog. ❤❤
Saw these guys before they hit it big, it was like a backyard BBQ party, and everyone there had a blast. The place went nuts when they played “La Bamba”.
I grew up in S Texas around San Antonio, these guys represent everything that's great about S. Texas and the Hill Country there. This is the sound that brings me home every time I hear it. These brothers are awesome and very much loved and appreciated. They have some other great songs, please check them out and you might even learn a few new works in Spanish, or as we call it, Spanglish or Texmex. Also, the video was filmed in a Spanish Mission in San Angelo, TS.
I would agree this crossed over. Haha. I remember the first time I heard this coming home after work about 9:00 p.m. (beautiful night) listening to it on my car stereo speakers... it was def a spiritual experience for me. 💜 Love at first Listen. Thx. B.
These guys are great and so under appreciated. I’ve seen them twice and both times they put on a great show. I recommend So Sensual and Señorita by them next.
Thanks, Britt! A favorite of mine.. very soulful! appreciate your listen... no better harmony than that among brothers, right? (think: BeeGees-..lol)...
If you listen close the drummer is signing a low harmony a lot of the time. It blends so well that it's easy to miss. Then he comes in on the melody on the "how far is heaven" while the guitarist is singing lead.
These brothers are from San Angelo, Texas, 90 miles from where I live! Love this song. (BTW, I've tried responding back to you on Gmail when you've asked. But, I don't have the same other form you do.) May have to install. Thanks for your answers to my responses! I appreciate it! Also, I really like your style!
Britt, don't know if this is were to suggests videos, but you need to watch the one with Tom Jones and Tanya Tucker singing " Help Me Make It Through The Night". WOW, the chemistry, makes you wonder, "did they help each other"?
Brit watch your reactions often. Never comment. If you enjoyed this, give a band called Santana a try. Also relatively new Band called Thee Sacred Souls listen to their song named Can I call you Rose. All bands have a sound similar.
This song was big when I met the love of my life. I live in a small town, she lived in the next small town over. I wrote her a poem about how I felt. The last line was, "How far is Heaven? For me, it's 28 miles away."
Hi Britt like your reactions. Love these brothers and their music. May I suggest you try a reaction to El Chicano another great Hispanic band. Some instrumentals and songs with vocals too.
They would listen to Ronnie milsap when they were growing up . And it would be their base for their music . They even got to meet him and do a show called CMT cross roads where country and pop sounds would come and sing each other’s music. Lionel Ritchie and Kenny Rogers’s did one as well u should definitely watch with shows
They did a cover of 'Whatever Gets You Through The Night' by John Lennon that, in my opinion, is better than the original. These guys are amazing. And this song has got me through some hard times...
I saw this online .. “Guitarist Henry Garza wrote the lyrics as a prayer. When he was 18, his son died of sudden infant death syndrome (S.I.D.S). It's about the pain he felt and wanting to escape this world and see his son.”
Have loved this song but never knew the origin, how hard that must have been, God Bless him/them

A great Texas blues band. This album and Rockpango are 🔥. Still listen to them regularly. Road to nowhere, Hollywood, senorita, dime mi amor, fly away, change the world. All great songs.
First time I heard them I thought it was Santana trying to channel Stevie Ray Vaughn.
A really good album too. The Grammy was well deserved.

These guys are great and so under appreciated. I’ve seen them twice and both times they put on a great show. I recommend So Sensual and Señorita by them next.
GREAT GROUP, they've been around since the 90s and are from San Angelo. TX. Check out "More than Love" and "Diamonds" both great songs by them.

This song was on the radio every morning riding to school
Some of the best guitar playing also!
I bought the CD back when this first came out and they have so many great songs on it!!! I don't listen to it as much as I use to but still love it!
Check out their song "More than Love' as well. One of the other brothers is lead singer on that and it also includes great harmonies.
I second that motion!
This was a good band and song. I liked it a lot when it came out. Warm sound
The Spanish part translates to. You who are in your heaven, pour your blessings into me.
My favorite LLB tune.

Kind suggestion: Game of Love by Michelle Branch and Santana on maybe the best guitar part ever.
YES, Game of Love.. and Carlos & Michelle have a very similar vibe... also on "I'm feeling you"..
This song has very heavy Santana vibes.
Fantasic but underated band!
"Send more love" is another good song by them 😀
Brit watch your reactions often. Never comment. If you enjoyed this, give a band called Santana a try. Also relatively new Band called Thee Sacred Souls listen to their song named Can I call you Rose. All bands have a sound similar.
