- It's our fourth episode! Connor, Dominic, and Erica enjoy some bourbon with Shran, aka Jeffrey Combs. Erica shows us how to make our favorite cocktail, the Shuttlepod One. The guys answer fan questions. Another solid trivia game happens and Jeffrey discusses his acting career, getting dumped by his agent, and remote control antennae. They talk University of Washington, fan art, Jeffrey's band, and listen to some music. We wrap up with the longest goodbye on any show ever. Buckle up! The Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one!

Weyoun cracks me up as much as Quark. This may be an obvious line, but he elevated kissing butt to an artform.
The deep feeling of nostalgia when hearing Jeffrey’s voice, like a soothing tonic
Hahaha… so right
@@ShuttlepodShow Have you interviewed Suzie Plakson....I thought I saw her portrait there..I thought everyone who had a portrait was interviewed..is she on your list?
@@ShuttlepodShow Did you notice.. Combs' character in The 4400. Creates a super person injection. And naturally of course, it had to glow bright green. Such a cunning reference.
An iconic voice, and his character is great.
The very last thing he says -- "next time, Andorian ale" -- it sounds like pure Shran.
Jeffrey Combs is a great actor. He was able to play very different characters convincingly. Shran and Weyoun couldn't be two more different characters, and he acted as both well.
I never actually heard him speak as a person and I was surprised to see that he is a man who wears his heart on his wrist. He truly is a brilliant actor.
Don’t forget brunt FCA.
Also loved him in the Peter Jackson movie "The Frighteners" with Michael J Fox!
Big props to anyone working on Enterprise, I felt disappointed and even a bit angry when it got cancelled, just when I felt it was really starting to his its stride.
I thought the same thing! Right as they introduce RoboCop as the villain for the next arc then boom, canceled. I'm still mad.
Well said! 👏🙏😈🤘
It was and they were done dirty with the last episode that made them a guest star on their own show.
Saw an old interview with Connor recently where he said he thought history would be kinder to Enterprise than it was when it first aired. I think he’s right. However, I still believe the producers missed a huge opportunity creatively by not more actively moving the show toward the Romulan war and the birth of the federation. The Xindi conflict should have never been a thing.
@@MaximumWarp2099 I think Enterprise was the last Trek that felt "Star Trek" to me. The idea of professionalism, the idea of adults trying to make adult decisions, something to strive to. I wanted so bad to like Discovery, but something was lost in translation there. The utopian future wasn't there, the people weren't "role models" any longer, like the writers gave up on the whole concept, like it was too boring or something. Maybe it's more realistic, but the vision of humanity being better, striving to be better was lost.
Gives me the sads.
I absolutely ADORE Jeffrey Combs. Such a talented actor. I'm surprised Dominic and Connor didn't just take a week off and Jeffrey just played all three at the same time. One day you'll be at work, doing your daily routine when suddenly you'll hear 'CUT' and you'll realise BANG! you were Jeffrey Combs all along. Keep the episodes coming I love this podcast
Hahahaha
This comment made my day.
Jeffrey Combs has got to be my all time favorite Star Trek reoccurring actors. He plays each of his roles brilliantly!
Gotta get Scott Bakula on one of these episodes!
I've only seen him do one Quantum Leap fan thingy. I don't think he likes conventions. He might do more after the Quantum Leap reboot.
@@matthewb9621 he has done conventions. There are UA-cam videos of him taking questions. He seemed really happy to be there. I just think he is busy.
@@physicsfaith Yeah, I did look a little harder and there are more than one. I did see a few over the last fifteen years or so. I didn't mean to suggest he didn't enjoy it. It all might reflect on Deans reluctance to do them more than Scott's. Bleah, it wasn't the most solid observation in the world, tbh.
O jeez, Shran was one of my all-time favourite characters in Star Trek. I was so sad they didn't give him a more dignified ending. Would have been a great ambassador or something. Jeffrey Combs is amazing in all his trekkie roles. I hope we get to see him in future roles again.
Shran was one of my favorite characters of all time. And Jeffrey Combs absolutely MASTERED that role.
You _owe_ him pink skin!
...unless you're not pink skinned, _but_ you still owe him.
I guess season 5 Shran was supposed to join the crew. But he's probably my favorite character out of all Star Trek; and I'm a real big Spock fan.
This is fast becoming a fun Sunday morning ritual: breakfast with the boys. The way these conversations effortlessly flow from silly fun to emotionally poignant is really quite impressive.
It’s becoming a tradition now doe me for Sundays after work. It’s a great way to end my week!
Shran is easily my favorite roles played by Jeffrey Combs. All of them were great, but Shran was amazing. Every time he shows up, you know it will be fun, and some f**kery is about to go down.
Our sentiment exactly!
Another absolute banger of a show guys. Looing forward to the next one.
Man, Shran is one of my favorite characters on Enterprise. The relationship between him and Archer as the show progresses was well done.
Shran could get his own show.
There were indications that Shran was going to be a series regular if the series would have continued. That would have been so good.
So Shran is a pink skin now. Go figure :)
PS: Jeffrey was brilliant as Shran.
Is a holo disguise dude
He was brilliant in DS9 too. He puts a mark on any episode he plays in, even if he has only a few scenes.
One of my favorite lines was when Shran's ship saved the Enterprise and he tells them, "Tell Archer that is TWO he owes me". One of the things I loved about the tv show Enterprise is we got to see how these friendships and alliances were forged. If they could have had two more seasons we could have had some great television. You could see the start of the Federation and the Romulan War.
@@adrian.tabircaAgreed. I liked him as Weyoun.
This was just brilliant. The camaraderie and bonds of friendship just shone through your entire interview, I loved the stories you all told with such humour, grace and affection. Jeffrey, Dominic and Connor you really cheered me up on this cold and rainy afternoon in the North of England.
Incredible actor, I loved him voicing the Question on Justice League unlimited
The man, the legent, the living history of ST, Mr. Jeffrey Combs!
The mighty Jeffrey Combs .. heir to the throne left vacant by the passing of the immortal Mark Lenard.
Jeffrey is just all around a class act, loved him since Re-animator! Just an awesome unique guy.
My first experience with Combs was with DS9 and I remember going "Wow this guy is fantastic... I have to look up what other things he's done". SO off to the video rental store I went to watch The Reanimator. I was very well rewarded for my decision to see some of his other work.
Jeffrey Combs is such a nice man. Shran is one of the best Star Trek characters. Period.
I think Brunt F.C.A would like to say a word.
A good man and a great actor.
I've never see Jeffrey outside of his characters before. What a real pleasure. Thank you for this, today you were the 'bride' .
Combs would have made an outstanding Phlox. Maybe the only person outside of Billingsly that could do it.
Star Trek royalty! Thanks for having Jeffrey on, such a great episode. I loved the reverent 'we love Scott B such a classy guy' cut straight to Jeffrey "So I was beating the shit out him...' 🤣 Weyoun and Shran are all time favs.
I wonder if anyone has ever fallen asleep in the makeup chair at 3:30 am, and woken up, and still groggy looked in the mirror and freaked because of the work that's been done
HAHAHAHA
Jeffery Combs needs to appear on Strange New Worlds as the grandson of Shran and Jmanel
Do we know how old Andorians get? He just might play an older Shran. Would love to see him in SNW.
Jeffery has such LEGENDARY voice, I always smile when I hear his voice on ds9 or enterprise !
Jeffrey has some serious acting chops. He was a great addition to the show.
The Star Trek sagas are a way for us dull, boring without a life people to enjoy a brief step away from our lives. It's only because of your desire to do the best you can to excel in your craft.
Thanks to all the people who contributed to the universe of everything Trek.
Here's hoping Jeff can get on board with some of the new series. Loved him as the insane AI in Lower Decks, dude still has it, man.
Quite interesting. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the three actors.
OMG I totally did not even recognize Trip and Reed! I miss that show. Yes, even that one!
Shran is one of my favorite Star Trek characters. I got into a bidding war at a convention for a large autographed canvas photo of Shran that is like 4 feet by 6 feet. I'm building a bar where I intend to display it with other memorabilia (Angel Envy?). Incidentally, both Connor and Dominic were at that convention and hosted a karaoke party. It's also where I met Aaron Eisenberg a few years before his death (really, really great guy). A reality of fandom is that sometimes when you love a character and you meet the actor, you're disappointed. Not so with Dominic and Connor; they exceeded mine. I actually became a bigger fan after meeting them (if that was possible).
Jeffrey, Connor, and Dominic really strike me as legit fans of the various incarnations of Star Trek. I love it not only because it makes their discussions more engaging but also makes them relatable. It's fascinating to hear about their struggles with their work. I just got into watching Shuttlepod but this show really makes rewatching Enterprise more enjoyable.
Founder! You honor us with your presence
That Shran reveal with Archer eclipsing his face with the antennae peeking over was awesome.
Great to see Jeffrey talk about his roles. I was always impressed how well he portrayed his characters - particularly Weyoun.
Loved his performance as Weyoun.. He made this character so memorable
How charming and wonderful is Jeffrey Combs?? Thanks for this episode guys!
You are welcome! Thank you for being here!
Jeffrey Combs is a fantastic actor. He brought each character to life and they were so different. Awesome actor.
The pink skins have done it again! Jeffrey Combs is the man with a thousand faces in Trek and we love everyone of them. Cheers on another great episode!
When i say that i waited for this episode all week! Its finally here and with Jeffrey Combs, aahh. Gonna try and make the cocktail, but it does seem a bit hard to make :D.
The Shuttlepod One cocktail is a true mixologist Master's drink
Mr Combs is the man! I loved him in each of his roles throughout Star Trek. I also really enjoyed his voice over work in the Justice League series as Question and my younger sisters grew up with him as Ratchet in the Transformer TV series.
Check out The Frighteners with Michael J Fox. Combs is amazing in it!
Jeffrey Combs was so great in every role he played. The more I rewatch; the more I enjoy them.
So lovely to see Jeffrey again and hear his stories. Sunday morning, eat breakfast while watching Shuttlepod - it's becoming a seriously enjoyable routine. Although maybe I should think of watching much later in the day when I could join you in a drop of the hard stuff!
Best enjoyed with a glass of our favorite cocktail, the Shuttlepod One!
@@ShuttlepodShow Sorry, but not starting the day with alcohol sounds better. And coffee in the morning might be a better choice.🤔😉
@@ShuttlepodShow I would do as I like bourbon, but having checked the UK price I think maybe not!
Jeffrey Combs, one of a kind. A man of a thousand faces in the really revered tradition of the great Lon Chaney. I have always admired Jeffrey. Being an actor and a stage director myself I can say so with ease and confidence. I admire his versatility that encompassed almost the entire Star Trek franchise and more. His voice is so unique that even if I were blind I would immediately recognize it. There are only very few great actors who can do what he does, but one can usually only count them on the fingers of one hand. Such actors are invaluable to any kind of production, since you can absolutely trust that whatever role you assign them, they will develop them in such a masterful way as to make you wish to see them more often and do more work. Jeffrey is simply a chameleon who can slip into any role as if it were yet another skin of his own. I don't know how he manages it, but he certainly has earned my utmost admiration and respect. I wished I had his talent as an actor, and this is why today I am more a director than anything else.
That Andorian Ale idea does sound interesting. You guys should look into it. Haha
I know we aren’t supposed to have favorites but Jeffrey Combs is probably in my top 3 for Trek. He was never a main character but his contributions are everywhere. I can only hope Paramount taps him for some kind of more serious role in New Trek.
I love how Erica is captivated by Jeffrey's stories, same with the prior guests.
And I just love the genuine friendship that is on display in each episode. It oozes through the screen.
Jeff Combs is always a delight to him speak, do interviews and hear him reminisce about his Trek experience. He is amazing with his cast and crew and listening to the fun banter between Conner and Dominick was a pure delight! Thank you again guys and special thanks to Mr. Combs!
Jeffrey Combs is one of my all-time favorite Trek people! He needs to be on every Star Trek show in different characters.
Getting a gift for each guest is so damn classy. Absolute class.
All those characters he played and I never saw the actor through the role. Just amazing!
Really heard Shran in the last 10 seconds, ' Next time, Andorian ale!'
Dominic strikes me as a hyper British kid who followed the Bohemian Yellow Brick Road to Hollywood where he found a cadre of kindred thespian spirits who, like him, can never turn off the urge to entertain--even each other, if no one else is available. It's so wonderful to witness Connor doing accent impersonations, which I've never seen him do before. Jeffrey Combs is just a big bundle of delight, insight, and surprising vulnerability. Love you all, guys! You could do the same trio in a three-way discussion every week, call it a sit down sit com, and I would tune in every frigging week. Kudos, gentlemen--and patient lady Erica too.
He is a phenomenal actor. Shran is my favorite of his roles. He seemed to really enjoy it.
Watching Jeffrey Combs drink bourbon reminded me of the scene in Deep Space 9 when Weyoun drank the poisoned Kanar. Mr. Combs acted out the scene expertly enough to the point I almost could taste it myself. It is one of my favorite Weyoun moments. His portrayal of Shran is very divergent from Weyoun. I had to consult IMDB to confirm it was him because he is able to create completely different believable personality types. Of course the makeup and prosthetics do well to aid the illusion. Mr. Combs is truly a versatile actor.
Jeffrey Combs is my all-time favorite actor! Really appreciate everyone working on this podcast.
Thank you, LLaP 🖖
Shran is my all time favourite character, and in my 52nd year I have a big library to choose from. And it is Jeffery Combs's acting performance that shines like a diamond. Anyone can paint themselves blue, it's what you do afterwards that counts.
Steals every scene.
Bless you all.
Excellent!
Like they quote above:
The Andorian Mining Consortium runs from no one!
Gets me every time. Combs is a damn treasure.
Erica adds being beautiful to her obvious intelligence. Jeffrey Combs has been one of my favourite Trek character actors since I first saw him in STNG. I always thought it was a shame he never got a regular role. Well I'd have missed his incredible recurring roles like Weyoun and Schran.
I remember reading a number of interviews where Jeffrey Combs mentioned James Cagney as a basis for building the character of Shran, and I also remember him mentioning the (historical) conflict between the Irish and the English as a basis for where Shran was coming from, with regard to the Vulcans. It goes way back.
I read and watch a lot of Jeffrey Combs interviews ☺
This show just keeps on gettnig better, Jeff is even better out of character (which I didn't think was possible). Ty
18:30 "Honky Tonk Freeway" (1981) is an underrated movie featuring Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy ("I'll have five Old Fashions"), Daniel Stern, William Devane, Beau Bridges, Beverly D'Angelo, Teri Garr, Howard Hesseman, Geraldine Page, and apparently Jeffrey Combs to name a few. I have a copy on VHS somewhere if anyone wants to borrow it.
This man is an actor with multifaceted talent. He can at once play the villain, the protagonist, and the tragic figure. Combs is legitimately one of the finest actors that I have ever seen on screen. No joke.
"Anyway... I'm beating the s--t pit of him..." lol.
Jeffrey combs is great. I know I originally caught him in Re-Animator but The Frighteners was pure candy. He brought so much to the Star Trek franchise. Shran is a great character. I'm always pleased as punch when I see him in the cast of anything. Very fun episode that I'm just now getting around to bingeing.
I have loved Jeffrey in every ST role he has played. He is immensely entertaining. He can be hilarious and terrifying. Sometimes at the same time. And strangely enough every time I see him in something I can’t help but say “Brunt, FCA.” Oh, and he was the perfect voice for the Question on Justice League Unlimited. Wish there could have been an entire Question series.
Just stumbled upon this show this morning and have now binged all the episodes. I have no clue how it took me so long to hear about this, as I practically eat, sleep, and breathe Trek - seriously, my family have a rule that I'm only allowed to mention ST to any of them once per day. Fan Question: Why did you guys decide to call the show the Shuttlepod Show, rather than just Shuttlepod One? Awesome show, guys! Keep up the great work and I can't wait for next week's episode! ❤️🚀
Awesome episode! The Scotty imitations were hilarious, you could feel the chemistry between them. Thanks for another nice Sunday fun afternoon. ❤
He was excellent. Played so many characters and killed it.
I am happy that Jeffrey Combs one of my favorite actors is in this episode. I loved Shran and all of his other Trek characters especially Penk. He is a great villian. I really enjoyed seeing him in "Nevermore" at the Somerville Theater in 2014. I thought Enterprise was so well written. I lost both my siblings. Connor's character Charles "Trip" Tucker lost his sister in Florida during the Xindi invasion of Earth. I thought that Connor really portrayed a man who was really depressed over the death of his sister and that theme continued through many of the episodes of the show. I thought that the acting was really good and was very realistic. It comforted me that whoever wrote those shows knew what it was like to lose a sibling. I am sure that Connor was channeling whatever losses of family he has had. I also enjoyed Connor in Stargate SG-1. I enjoy Dominic in Enterprise as well. I enjoy listening to English accents. I love Porthos on your table as well as the model Enterprise. I loved seeing all 3 of you at Star Trek Las Vegas 2013.
I have such a man crush on this man. His acting was simply sublime. ❤
GREAT SHOW. This guy Jeffery Combs, second time I've seen him outside of character and I can tell he's a genuine wonder man. Seeing him on that show that all the Enterprise cast was there with that I think was in 2012. He paid tribute to Scott and I can tell he was really genuine in the things he said. What an impressive man he is.
A short comment, because my guests will arrive soon. Very interesting and informative topics. Especially the opinion on the incident on the set of Rust. Let's hope that something is learned from it....
I am thrilled, as always. Thank you and keep up the good work. Kind regards from Germany. Margit
Mr Combs is an awesome actor in my books. Loved his contribution to the star trek universe in every series🖖
Jeffrey's brilliant array of characters in star trek. Ds9 is definitely still my favourite Trek.
(I have no idea why I'm commenting so often - I loved this show so so much I guess.) First - Jeffrey nailed Shran so well I kept watching hoping for another Andorian episode. You sir were so much fun to watch. Second - I was the budding young actor for whom life got in the way and never had that "moment", so I love hearing about how everyone made their way. Lastly - as a competitive shooter, armorer and instructor, I couldn't agree more with the sentiments here. Tragic failure on so many levels. Genuinely hurts my heart what happened. Hearing how much safety is driven on set only reinforces the levels of sadness for what happened. It's a shame more of Andoria hasn't shown up more in later incarnations of Trek. I'd love to see Jeff's flushing out of their culture live on. It's uniquely Enterprise and I love every minute.
You two are great interviewers. I really hope this show takes off for you guys. You definitely deserve it. Great guests, great banter, and the chemistry you guys have with each other (and your producer) is just amazing. Thanks for the entertainment and can't wait for next week.
Thanks so much!
Jeffrey... what an actor! so many stellar appearances. Always happy to see him around!
Sunday evening glass of wine and firing up the latest Shuttlepod episode is definitely my new routine 👌
I recently started rewatching Enterprise after many years. Then this show comes out, what timing. Conner and Dominic are great together. Your guest's are also amazing.
Dominic’s come backs get very old, very fast… Connor is amazing ;-)
Luv'd it! Erica did a great job keeping you guys in line!
Enjoyed this episode quite well!
This has been a great show 👏
Yes, Erica was great! I like that she kept them on track with the questions 😂 and seemed to enjoy the show as much as they did!
I just love how everyone talks about Scott Bakula. Can't wait to see him on the show.
Fan of Jefferys since Fortress, his voice acting as Question was brilliant, still believe he should do a live action version
His multiple roles throughout Star Trek were fantastic
14:30 "Oh, Americans." As a Brit living in America, that resonated so hard! 🤣😂
Hahaha
Perfect watch for a sunday morning. Loved listening to Jeff's stories this week. This channel has quickly become my favourite watch on YT. Thanks to you all once again.
I had no idea Jeffrey played so many different characters. So talented! Shran was my favorite and he was a powerful character and Jeffrey played him perfectly. I've been watching the re runs of Star Trek Enterprise and wish it could have gone on longer than it did and Shran could have been on a lot more. I enjoyed your show here and talking with Jeffrey. So great seeing Dominic and Connor. You both were so great on Star Trek Enterprise I would liked to have seen the show get a couple more years. Love the Shuttlepod Show, you did a great job. I have subscribed!💖
Loved the show! Shran is my favorite character that Jeffrey played!
Jeffrey is an absolute treasure and I’m so thankful for his work in Trek. This fandom is so blessed to have you, sir!
I find myself looking forward to the next one. Keep'em coming. THAT'S an ORDER!
I always think 'has it already been an hour?' when the episode is over. Every time!
Great podcast! I could spend hours listening to and shooting the stuff with Jeff and the guys. Such a kind and talented actor. Anyone that i know who has met him will attest to that. More than a great actor, a great person.
I can listen to this man for hours, Jeffery Combs is the goat, a true class act. This show needs to be longer than an hour. Bring him back again. Love this show, you guys deserve a million subscribers, I look forward to every episode each week. Keep up the good work, love you guys.
Thanks! We will absolutely have him back. We would love a million subscribers! Need all your help to get there! BIG HEART EMOJI
Sunday morning late breakfast....joy
Morning!
Best interview so far. Combs was upbeat, friendly, not jaded, not negative about Star Trek and a fan to boot - really have come to like and respect Combs very, very highly after his interview with you two and of course your lovely Producer. Long-time Star Trek fan - watched the first episode when it originally aired. 71 years "young" healthy and positive look enough like Patrick Stewart that I cos-play Captain Picard to good result. Even dressed at one con as Dixon Hill. My son, a printer, made Dixon Hill business cards for me. Gave one to a female fan at a con while dressed as D. Hill - the look on her face was priceless. When I put on that Star Trek Captain uniform...I feel...good! - B. Gardner. LL&P!
Yep, love and appreciate Jeffrey's contributions to Trek's golden age. I was a big Weyoun fan.
After my partner finally accepted [surrendered?] that to love me was to love Star Trek (way back in the early noughties) she actually grew to genuinely enjoy the shows (specifically Deep Space Nine and Enterprise) to the point where she'd call out favourite episodes, favourite characters and favourite actors... One of her goto names was Jeffrey Combs; she made a point of insisting that we queue up for his autograph at one of the conventions we attended.
I think I heard in an interview (on the BluRay's maybe? - Don't quote me) that had Enterprise been given its seven seasons, Season 5 would have brought Shran on as a main character. So close.
Jeffrey Combs elevates everything he is part of. Really enjoyed this. From the home of Kentucky bourbon. Cheers!
Cheers!
What was fun with all these episodes where Combs was in was seeing all the different characters he played within the same series. In costume sometimes it was harder but he had a distinctive voice.
Jeffrey's Shatner impression is just shy of Kevin-Pollak-level quality
For real though, Jeffrey Combs is an absolute treasure, and I was enthralled by this episode
On another level, the production-level knowledge given by all of these full-on working professionals is probably the most enlightening stuff of all. Learning about the nitty-gritty details of what led to such fantastical episodes and characters only deepens my appreciation for each finished production and I am 100% here for it!
Really loving this show! So nice to see Connor and Dominic revisiting the series. Always loved Enterprise. FYI, as far as I am concerned, Trip was not killed on Enterprise and he lived a long life. Regardless of what that last episode said ;)
Love these guys! Star Trek is a universe of connection, friendship and space fantasy - a lifelong obsession for its fans. When we see these gentlemen we are star-struck! Deep Space Nine and Enterprise were some of these best storytelling in Trek. Enterprise should have been allowed to finish its run, but oh well. It is still timeless and fantastic.
He was the voice of the DC hero "The Question" in the animated series Justice League Unlimited. An iconic voice.
And scarecrow in Batman TAS
Well, I for one want more shuttlepod show! If I could, I would subscribe a thousand times and hit the like button once for every minute of your show. And even that would not reflect how much I am happy about this hour every week.
Thank you for this idea and the amount of work and time you spend for us fans.
That's rad. Thank you.
Great show boys. I love it that you don’t just talk about the shows, you shoot the shit about acting. I’ve been glued to to show since I discovered it. It’s very good
It took a while for me to recognize Jeff's gigantic contribution to Trek. It was the makeup. When I realized that "This guy is showing up everywhere!" - then I got it. Thanks Jeff! Hope to see you at the conventions. You're a giant. BTW: I realize now why the Vorta didn't have great eyesight. Brilliant.
