- Sara Cultural Centre in Skellefteå, which opened to the public in 2021, is one of the tallest wooden buildings in the world . The 20-storey building contains two theatres, an art centre, a library and many public spaces for people to meet. The vision for the cultural centre is to become the 'living room' of the city - a melting pot for ideas and cultural exchange.
Audio description: This video shows Sara Cultural Centre as a building site, as a model and as illustrations, both interior and exterior. Speaker is Mark Isitt, journalist and architecture critic - also filmed on site wearing a yellow high-visibility vest and a hard hat. Other people interviewed are, in the order that they appear: Oskar Norelius, architect and partner at White Arkitekter; Robert Schmitz, architect and partner at White Arkitekter; Francesca Quartey, CEO of Västerbottensteatern; Maria Ekberg Brännström, CEO of Skellefteå Kulturhus; Therese Kreisel, architect and head of urban planning at Skellefteå munipality; and Harriet Wistemar, municipal architect and director of planning at Skellefteå municipality.
Architect: White Arkitekter

This gave me some tears. The end result is awe-inspiring. As one said, change within ecological, economical, and social point of view. Just looking at it, there is a sense of connection and unity to our natural environment, working with it, celebrating and cherishing it, and not against it. Bravo. 👏🏼
Thank you for your kind words! 🙏
Enjoyed watching how beautifully the building looks !
Excellent to hear! It's going to be a great destination for locals and visitors for decades to come!

@@sweden I will love to visit this summer
There is also à New 25 story wood building in the US city of Milwaukee, and one in Brumunddal Norway, built in 2019.
Thank you for sharing this!😊
That's some big wood.
A rather generous amount of it!
i really love this country is so amazing never been there but i really want, one day i will there
Great case study for our world!
Cheers to that!
Love this building I'm even doing my school project drawing inspiration from it if I may ask its documentary was aired in a some channel can anyone know which or know where I can find the whole documentary anyone's response will be highly appreciated
Excellent to hear! We suggest that you start with the architects! whitearkitekter.com/project/sara-cultural-centre/
It's cool but besides that I was jut wondering how many trees were cut down to build it.
About 15000 trees all sourced locally, at less than 35 miles (app 60km) from the building, and they are all re-planted to replace those harvested.
Suuuuper big big big like, this is how we can give lessons of good maners world wide fans, loving the Holy Creation, living in perfect harmony with Mother Earth and let her breathe some more
God morgon Sweden 🇸🇪🎄. Good morning Stockholm. City of lights and technology,Here from Lemnos Island Greece🇬🇷😀 .I wish you an excellent day!!
Right back at you!
Great 👍
It's indeed a great project!
Great, a lot of other cities can learn from all over Europe.
Thank you!
Someone I know is named Sara and is very tall for a woman, 5’11”
Say hello to Sara from us!
Im proud to call this city my home 😊
We need a similar building for engineering in Sweden…..
A small typo in the title
Thank you! We've forwarded the typo info to our editorial team!
Something cool is that Sara kulturhus is named after Sara lidman and I’m family with her
Cool indeed!
What kind of tool is on 2:18?
Thanks for the video - great job
We suspect that it's a electronic sandpaper like device that makes the surface smoother?
How many trees needed to be cut to build that?
Destroying forests is not the answer.
That's certainly something that needs to be considered!
Almost 70% of Sweden is covered in forest so it's not really a problem for us. We can regrow it quicker than we use it up.
Totally agree and it was my thought all the way through the video.
Yes, it's a climate crime cutting down living trees.
Sweden replants...
But are there any safeguards against any risks of fire? Wood’s pretty flammable, you know.
We got very good fire safety regulations in place. All new properties need to adhere to them.
One of the* 💙💙🇸🇪🇸🇪
Thank you!
Could you have design that building not so similar to a concrete building ?
When you see this building from outside it looks like others building.
Ikea materials and inspiration :)
That as well!
WOW
Wait why is this channel called only by 'Sweden'?
Because it's the official channel of the country of Sweden?
@@sweden wait, no way. No way a country has its own official channel. I mean there is "Donald Trump" but no "USA" channel.
Yes way! We like to do if differently over here! Check out our website www.sweden.se to find out more!
Mmmmm😊

Imagine if all houses will be built by living tree. The new Amazonas. Bye, bye forests.
Everything in moderation!
You replant the forests dude!
Why do they use a crane built from metal, lol.
Let's not get silly!
@@sweden They haven't learned from history. You think it's silly when the first big tree house burns down and they again will stop build big houses with tree, lol.
There's some info here about fire safety for timber buildings, among other things: smartcitysweden.com/best-practice/327/the-modern-wooden-city-wooden-buildings-for-a-smaller-carbon-footprint/
@@sweden lol
Yea its cool you say... do you think they do anything about the roads? NO The Infrastacture is horrible in this town Move the E4 now this is terrible
Woody licious is good old natural.
