bloody hell, it's Spielberg!!! ;-) seriously, that looks like some lovely kit Alan, and I'm sure that - learning or not - you'll get some fantastic results. it was a really interesting tour around it too. on "peak" camera, I think we reached that with stills some years ago, with only tiny, incremental improvements like battery life, frame rate, etc. year on year now. The global shutter thing might filter down in years to come - that's probably the only major change I can foresee. And as you opined, video is the only real space for bigger developments. don't get me started on parcel deliveries! earlier this year all, and I mean all, our mail was going to a house around the corner from us. same number but totally different street. it took several complaints to the PO to rectify it. luckily we knew the people living there (my first ever house was opposite theirs and they're still there), but they were getting fed up of bringing our mail around. it's not as if we were getting their mail either - they were getting both lots!
Oh heck Nick, the saga of the lost parcel continues but I'm not holding my breath for even an apology at this point. Terrible service. Yes I think global shutters will appear at some stage but leaving that aside I think we are now (ironically) back to where we were with film cameras; buy into a brand or system and then stick with it, no need to upgrade year on year. I'm glad I'm not a manufacturer!
Jeez, you don't stuff around. My understanding of video came to a grinding halt when VHS died. I do love a show and tell, I think I should show you mine one day. I'd love to see your progress.
Dare I say Clare that I look forward to that day? As for this experiment (that's what it is to be honest), I'll be happy if I get myself more educated on the finer aspects of video work. Pretty sure you will see some results next year.
What, no castles or cathedrals?🤣Very interesting and educational video, but not something I’ll be getting into anytime soon, for now I’m sticking to the only thing I know, iguana photography. Be well and stay safe Alan.
Interesting watch. My thoughts as you took us through the bits you have purchased and what they all did was "what would you be using it for"? You of course then informed us for local filming in the parks etc. 8kgs plus would be enough to put me off carrying that sort of gear any length. I look forward to seeing how far you go into this. My youngest lad is very much into the video side of stuff and when he started off I couldn't believe the amount of tools n stuff that he was getting - his format though is very much what I thin they call run n gun so a tripod is not part of his armoury. His cameras are Sony Fx3's I think... he has just emigrated to Oz and is in the process of starting up a business over there. My own video "bits" are just point n shot stuff for the shorts I do and I used my Panasonic S5. atb Al
Thanks Alan. Yes the 'rig' is far from run-n-gun! I've gone down that route as my intention is to film using legacy lenses and manual focus would be harder with a hand-held set-up. Once we are into the New Year (and all these storms are behind us?), I do intend to try putting together a nature video in the park here.
Better than an Open University course! Keep it coming, with ‘real’ video from the park please. Assuming that I now understand false colour, how to use it (and fix it) during your video making?
Lol, your comment reminded me of those awful OU presenters back in the 70s/80s, clever people but with zero charisma lol. I may do a short video on false colour Andrew, it is useful for video and the monitor is also good for stills use as well. Hope the latest storm has been kind to you!

Thanks Enrique, always appreciated!
@@Enrique-the-photographer Iguana videos would be so cool!! We all could watch them do nothing! 😂😂
I am at a similar point of learning video. I have a Sony a6300 which will be my video camera, lots to learn.
Hello Ira, good to hear from you over there my friend. I'm sure we can pick up tips from each other then, it's a whole new ball game for me lol.

@@photographyforenjoyment Yep, the wind howled and the rain lashed but we came out of it unscathed 😎
Really interesting video this week Alan. Especially since I’m also a newbie videographer! Expect an email soon. 😎💜😎
Thanks TC, got the email and I will reply soon
@@photographyforenjoyment No rush. 😁
