It was their first song together.. GulzarJi and Pancham. GulzarJi met Pancham at a recording studio in Rajkamal where he was doing the background score of another movie. He handed Pancham a paper which had lyrics written 'musafir hoon yaaron '..and left the studio. The same night, rather midnight Pancham went to GulzarJi's house and said that he was ready with the tune. Both sat in his car and Pancham, while driving, started singing and tapping the car hood for rhythm. For two hours in the middle of the night they were roaming on the empty streets of Bombay. The song was born. This is as narrated by GulzarJi himself.
