The Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid doesn’t look like the graphic anymore. It underwent some serious renovations that started back in 2020 and is just about finished by now. It is now an extremely modern stadium with a retractable roof and even the field is removable (it is stored underground when not in use). As of right now, it’s probably the most modern stadium in Europe and one of the most modern in the world.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is the first and only stadium to be designed specially for NFL games outside of North America and is officially the home of the NFL in the UK.
The NFL International Series is a series of American football games during the National Football League (NFL) regular season that are played outside the United States. Since 2024, the series has three sub-series: the NFL London Games in the United Kingdom, which have been in place since 2007; the NFL Germany Games in multiple cities and the NFL Brazil game.
2:02 a lot of famous UK football clubs are from London. Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, West Ham United and many other smaller FC's
3:40 Olympiastadion was built for (in)famous 1936 Summer Olympic Games. During the Olympics, the record attendance was thought to be over 100,000
Fun fact: Red Bull Arena in Leipzeig was built within the confines of an old Zentralstadion (similar to Soldier Field in Chicago) that was built in 1956 from 1.5 million cubic metres of debris from the World War II bombing of Leipzig and could hold 120,000 spectators. It was made by the same architect as the Berlin Olympiastadion
The Great Strahov Stadium is a stadium in the Strahov district of Prague, Czech Republic. It was built for displays of synchronized gymnastics on a massive scale, with a field three times as long and three times as wide as the standard association football pitch. Its capacity of 250,000 spectators (56,000 seated) made it larger than any current or former sports stadium, and the second largest sports venue ever, first one beeing Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Puskás Stadium in Budapest was named after Ferenc Puskás. One of the best footballers ever in history. He was born in 1927 and died in 2006. Star of the Hungarian national football team and Real Madrid. In the Hungarian national team, he scored 84 goals in 85 matches. He scored 156 goals in 180 games in Madrid. All this happened in the 50's and 60's. The most famous Hungarian in history.
I have a story about him.
In 2001, I was in Singapore on a business trip. I visited neighboring Malaysia when I returned to Singapore at the Malaysian border for approx. a 30-year-old Malaysian border guard asked for my passport and saw that I was Hungarian. He looked at me and with a big smile on his face just said: Oh, Puskás, Puskás! - In 2001, a 30-year-old Malaysian border guard at the Singapore-Malay border also knew who he was. Brilliant!

1:20 Celtic is pronounced sell tick.
The figure is incorrect. It 60,411.
It was rebuilt in 1994 on the ground of the original stadium. The reason for the design is the smaller stand is listed, although this is debated by some fans.
The stadium holds 60,411 and has around 54,000 season tickets holders (the most in the UK according to Celtic), with another 28,000 on a waiting list. That stat came from ex captain Scott Brown.

Edit ; dont mean to offend, but i've been in most european ones and when you enter them, even empty, you start to "feel" something.. history, passion a "vibe" it's both scary and mesmerizing

Michigan stadium is over 100k. most of the stadiums in Europe are very old compared to NFL stadiums. one like old trafford and celtic park look the way they do because they were built in the late 1800s and added on to over the years. Anfield should have been in that list as well and they just had a renovation to add more capacity.
Real Madrid's stadium is newly renovated as well and it is probably the most futuristic of all of them. another crazy thing about it is the retractable field system.

Wembley and Cardiff are national stadiums where the countries play a range of sports most notably Football, Rugby and the occasional boxing match. Cardiff was built first in 1999 called Millennium Stadium (now called Principality Stadium) and hosted many English Cup finals and National games while Wembley was being rebuilt.
My favourite thing about the Principality is that the roof fully retracts over the pitch. I attended the League Cup final in 2005 for my one and only indoor professional football game.

The USA has many bigger stadiums, but a different approach to sports causes it. In Europe, a single city contains multiple teams competing with each other. In most of the US cities, there is only one, often for the whole region. That's why a single big city in Europe contains a couple of stadiums from 5k to 70k (London has 21 stadiums), while in the US it's often one very big (over 100k) per city (sometimes one per sport type). The older cities like NYC have more as they grew with the Europe approach.
NFL consists of 32 teams. England (not the whole UK, only England) has 92 professional teams. But if we want to count all clubs (so they play in leagues but players dont't get regular salary or contracts) there are about 40.000 of them.

If a stadium is quite old, you'll find it's record attendance is maybe 2 times the capacity of the stadium as it is today, despite the fact that the stadium has probably been renovated and made larger since then. That's because most stadiums did not have seats, or did not have many seats, for a long time. For example, Stamford Bridge, in London, home to Chelsea FC, holds 40,343 people, but has a record attendance of 82,905 from a derby game in 1935. The official attendance at the 1950 World Cup final in Brazil, played by Brazil against Uruguay, was within 200 of 200,000, even though the stadium it was played in, the Maracana, only has a capacity of 73,139 today. The old Wembley had an unofficial attendance for the 1923 FA Cup final estimated at somewhere near 300,000, although the official attendance was only around 125,000 (this was actually its first ever game held there)

when the first Stadiums opened and more and more spread around their capacities were usually much higher, because of smple seat-'bars' or just standing places etc...most lost capacities due to different modernization phases (more space, more safety, more modern seats etc.) over time (Berlin Olympiastadium shrunk for such reasons from 100k+ to 78k). And over time more modern Football only Arenas (with the exception of sometimes concerts/events) took more and more over as newer concept vs. the old usually all-kind-of-sports (with ash lanes) stadiums. Arenas also have an higher degree of the seats to give a better watch experience also for the higher places) ...

A lot of the older stadiums actually have lower capacities now than their record attendances, certainly in Britain. For example, my club (West Brom), has a current capacity of ~26,000 but I think our record attendance is 63,000 about 60 years ago because there never used to be much/any seating, it was all standing room only but law changes stopped the use of standing terraces in English/British professional football

They're looking to renovate again ending up at 105.000 i think....You should definitely try & check out hurling, that is just a sport of its own, one of the fastest field sports on earth. It's just insane...National sport of Ireland...

I'm from Wembley, a small town in north west London with one of the best stadiums in the world!
Yeah, other than soccer where it's home for the England national team and the FA Cup Final every year (and other finals) it hosts a number of NFL games and lots of music concerts. You might know it as the venue for Live Aid 1985, Queen, U2 etc. Some of the most iconic music performances in history. Although the stadium has been fully rebuilt since then.
Croke Park is definitely not a soccer stadium!

Does anyone know, the ratings for how many people these stadiums hold, are they based on the number of seats in the grand stands, like how many people can fit when there's a football game or something like that, or how many people they can fit when there's a concert and a large portion of the field/pitch is also used as space for the audience?

    • @germankitty
      @germankitty 7 місяців тому

The Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund is the biggest stadium in Germany, with a total capacity of 81,365 spectators. However, ~28,000 are standing-room only -- THE place to be for the truly hardcore fans! 😅 (The south curve of the oval is known as the "Yellow Wall" -- the club colors are black and yellow, and all the players will thank the fans there for their support after each game. It's the largest standing-room-only arena in Europe.)
However, FIFA regulations don't allow standing-room attendance at international games, so they'll put up temporary seating which makes the total capacity then "only" 66,099.
However, the stadium is NOT available for concerts, as it would damage the natural turf; the old multi-purpose stadium is right next door, though, as is a multi-purpose indoor arena with a capacity for 15,400 people, plus several smaller venues of varying capacity. So it's not as we can't offer alternatives, including a huge public park just a 5-minute walk away with concert facilities! 😁
