  • It may seem like something very simple, but when things get intense, it makes sense.
In this video, I explain why police officers seem to always back their vehicles into a parking spot, and not just drive straight in. Something as simple as backing into a parking spot enhances officers' ability to react swiftly and hit the road with maximum efficiency when every second counts.
You might want to consider trying this with your personal vehicles as well, it's a good habit to get into.
This video led me to another idea of something people should learn how to do, not just if they want a career in law enforcement or emergency services, but also if they are ever in an emergency and need to communicate effectively.
Please share your thoughts, I'm always interested to hear your feedback.
Thanks for watching, I appreciate you taking the time.

Another fantastic video. Couriers also do this for safety reasons. It’s easier to see people especially at night in a parking lot when heading straight out instead of reversing out of the parking spot. I think all drivers should do this.

I worked at a Scarborough TDSB school and because we had a small staff parking lot, we were all made to back in just incase of an emergency. Like you said Randy, if some parked forward it would mess things up if everyone was trying to leave at once. But some staff had a really hard time backing into a space between 2 cars. Maybe TPS could put on a training event for drivers who are not comfortable at reverse parking? Ive akways backed into spots and passed that along to my kids once they began to drive. It is more safer when pulling out of a spot.

Great post as always. It’s always something I’ve tried to do as it makes it easier to drive out and go when shopping etc. However the standards of driving over here are shocking nowadays and a lot of people I’ve witnessed can’t even park driving in frontwards let alone backwards 😢

When I was delivering water in CFB Halifax, there was an enclosed building that housed vehicles, and they were on the go all the time. I adopted what they were doing. Anytime a vehicle was going to move, especially reverse, they would sound the horn! That, I thought, was a very good way to alert a pedestrian or another driver of their intentions instead of having a bumperfest in the building. Good thing to practice in a parking lot too. That was just the military way of doing things.

Yes the police college has it posted absolutely everywhere. Soon as you pull into the driveway. Then you drive by the OPP station and they are parked both ways lol.
I have always preferred to back into parking spots. Expecially having a larger vehicle.
It was also a must growing up expecially with my dad.
Reversing into parking spots with a trailer on was a must as well.
Personally cannot stand back up cameras. Always shut it off. But it is handy when backing up to trailers.

I always reverse park now!Reason is, before backup camera's and when I was younger, I was parked nose in and reversin I didn't see a person running behind my car, and I almost hit them. S, being reverse parked allows you visually to see everything (especially small kids who you may not see or suddenly run away from their parent!) Now, it's just a habit.

If you have to "eight point turn" on a reversing action most likely you cant pull out forward either .. its more of a safety issue. I agree with backing in but the time saved is minimal. You can always tell a first responder or a trucker because their vehicle is almost always reversed into the parking spot.

Any military establishment I've ever been posted to requires backing in as well, for military and civilian vehicles. It's safer. My theory is that it isn't law everywhere because at least half the licenced drives aren't capable of backing into a spot.

I see your point, but only if it doesn't take the driver 7 moves and 10 minutes to back into a spot.
Also, a good driver should be able to park forward in one move and reverse from a regular parking spot in just one move as well.

    • @OfficerArsenault
      @OfficerArsenault  3 місяці тому +2

You would think so. But it it takes them that long to back in, they’re probably not that great at backing out either, and less change if hitting a vehicle in the driving portion of a parking lot 👍🏼

My dad worked for Bell Canada and he said there was a policy that you either reverse park your company vehicle or pull into a parking spot forward and be able to drive forward out of it. Basically, no reversing out of a spot. You must drive out forward to reduce the chance of a parking lot collision. Also, when daytime rinning lights weren't in Canadian cars yet, you must drive with low beams on at all times to be visible to others.
    Great safety tips.
