Great video! An elder at my church opened up a lawn mower shop down the street from me. I was going to let him fix my mower. I cannot afford to get the work paid for at whatever the cost. I will fix it myself with the help of your video and others like it. Good luck to him and I applaud his work ethic. If I had the money I would pay him. He probably learned for these videos. Thank you and God Bless You. Sisters are doing it for themselves!
Well this fixed my problem, the diaphram/gasket was barely worn, but alas was to fault. Thanks for sharing this video it undoubtedly saved me $ and headache.
Thanks very much for posting this money saving tip. To avoid being ripped off, watch this video and then part two. Both clearly describe the syptoms of your Briggs and Stratton mower playing up, followed by a clear demo of how to fix it. I have just fixed mine for the cost of the diaphragm (3.50 euros or 4.60 dollars) and the job took about 15 minutes. I can assure you that if a non mechanically minded person like me can fix this like I have just done, anyone can.
briggs and stratton engines are bomb prof awsome engines iv had that problem with mine but it was with the filters inside the carb and fuel tank once they were cleaned run like a dream after never had another problem with it
It's not B&S fault It's that dam E10 Fuel which is 10% Ethanol and 90% gasoline better known as regular unleaded, and yes it's the same stuff you put in your vehicle. Ethanol destroys small engines if their not in use for a period of time. It destroys diaphragms and fuel lines And plastic parts. It's best to drain the fuel and winterize them when there not going to be used. Better alternative to E10 is to start using TruFuel it's made for 2 and 4 cycle engines it comes in a quart can (32 oz).
Why did you not demonstrate how it runs before you repaired it so people would know. I fix mowers all the time and I just think it should be shown so people don't think that is there problem when it might be something totally different.

Any chance you could tell me the size of the screw for the air filter ?
What if I removed and cleaned the air filter, and even tried to run t without it, and it still shoots white smoke. DO I have a piston/gasket problem?
