Nice. Between your review and TFL's, I think a Trailblazer might be my next vehicle. Old, high mileage Honda Pilot is my current vehicle. Needs more repairs than it is worth. Was thinking of buying a truck as my next vehicle, but my need changed and prices are insane. A small crossover will fit my needs 95% of the time. I'll rent or borrow a truck the 4 or 5 times a year I need one. I like that you can get a Trailblazer with roof rack included on LT trim.
To accomplish roughly what a late '90s Ford Contour did with a 2.5L V6, this TrailBlazer has double the gears, half the cylinders and displacement, and a turbo. As hard as this turbo 3-banger has to rev in routine driving, it's not terribly surprising it kinda sounds like a V6. Based on the EPA ratings, the upshot is 7 additional MPG for a more upright vehicle with AWD. That's what 20 years of technological advancement gets you. For roughly the same price, a 2020 Accord is 2 seconds faster 0-60, gets 5 additional MPG, handles better, looks better, and is likely to hold up much better. But it sits too low and doesn't have a hatchback. There's certainly an appeal in sitting high enough to look adjacent drivers in the eye instead of staring at their door handles or bumper.
There's not really a benefit of sitting up higher except not scraping your car if there is a big bump. Also I've gotten better city mpg in a CR-V than that blazer did on the highway. The civic is a good option since you could get the hatchback and it gets very good mpg from my testing of my moms civic lol. Accord is also nice. Better interior than the civic.
Keep in mind these have a timing belt and an oil pump belt. Get an extended powertrain warranty. If they break before 150k miles and after your 60k powertrain warranty, not good. I had the 1.0 ford with the same setup. Use the exact oil it calls for and change it on time if not early. Crucial for those belts since they are submerged in it. Great looking little suv though.
Girlfriend leased an awd RS trim. Pretty nice. Some road noise and engine is not very refined but you need to expect that for this price point I think. Averaging a very nice 29 mpg. Also, check your tire pressure. They had them inflated to 45 psi from the factory still. Good way to eat your stock tires up quick and have a crap ride :).
The 1.3L engine actually uses a timing chain instead of a timing belt. If you get the 1.2L engine in the Trailblazer, then you will have a timing belt. I looked into this since I recently bought a Buick Encore GX with the 1.3L and wanted to make sure which one it used.

Out of all the trims, the LT AWD is the better choice. I have the 2021 RS trim which rides very rough due to the sport suspension and low profile tires. The LT offers a little softer suspension and larger sidewall tires make a big difference in ride quality. Don't knock this 1.3 turbo motor. It has really good torque and pulls hard on the highway. We get around 360 miles on a full tank. (We do mostly highway driving). The ONLY downfall to the LT is you sadly cannot get the sunroof nor the powered lift gate. I haven't had any problems, its a good dependable suv
@@Barbaratio there’s a lot of confusion on the 5.3, and it’s all GM’s fault imo. I’ve been lucky enough to have had a few vehicles with LS and LT engines in my life and can pretty much build them with my eyes closed. The major difference between the 5.3 and 6.0 of that era revolves around the intended platform they would be used on. The reason why GM gave their engine different naming is because of what their intent was. LS is intended for sedans/performance cars. LT is for trucks. The 5.3 was the oddball of them all because its block is what is used on the 6.0 LS, but is bored out. GM designated it as a truck engine on paper, vs the 6.0 being for sedans, and somehow they managed to flip the real world use and use them interchangeably. The 5.3 went into the Impala SS. There are other models that also had mismatched engines- like the corvette and Camaros with LT engines. This is one of the reason performance engine builder take 5.3 blocks and build them up. On paper, there is LT and LS, but in real life, they’re all LS engines with slight tweaks and updated components depending on the performance they’re trying to reach. You wouldn’t know this unless you’ve taken them apart and rebuilt them, unfortunately.
This is a great CUV for the price, but Chevy really missed an opportunity for a Bronco Sport competitor. I'm sure if the Blazer was a body on frame offroad capable SUV like the Bronco or Wrangler it would sell like crazy. Same with the trailblazer being a more offroad capable alternative to something like a chevy trax.
Erggg it pisses me off that I like this. I have an older trailblazer and love it, this one seems quite good, I just need to remember they aren’t the same vehicle. Just the name lol. If they offered it with a larger engine live a small v6 as a performance option I’d love it.
Why GM getting more expensive but with less comforts and options. Even at their base and midlevel trims. The 3 cyl scares me. I think chevy leaving the sedan market is really going in the wrong direction.
@@clb_52 True, really the main thing is it will probably burn more oil as it ages from being at higher rpms throughout it's life but as long as you keep adding it, if shouldn't be a problem.
I really love this, kind of, headlight design language, where you have the main unit separate a bit lower down and DRLs at the top making one with the hood line.
They could at least put LED headlights! The halogen headlights don’t fit at all on this car! They don’t make sense! But in my opinion in every new car the car companies/manufacturers should put LED headlights even in the basic/base versions/trims!

@@iggibars Forgot about that, but the 6.0 LS is what I was talking about.
He did the visor test! #thestraightpipes
Many other options i'd pick over this...
1. Kia Seltos
2. Mazda CX-30
3. Kia Soul (For FWD)
4. Jeep Renegade (yes, I said it)
for that price you could have a Rav4
or a used car that is miles better
You have to be stupid to pick the Renegade (Fiat 500x) over the Trailblazer.
I'd place 'skateboard' above this turtle on that list
I would do the Seltos or Kona. Not any of the others
great review bud..im with you...love it
here in Dubai they call it the Blazer. Pretty nice looking car.
Exactly. Hopefully they learn from their mistake
Shiiid y’all can hate all u want but it look good to me!
I never see these on the roads....the last generation both the trailblazer and envoys, seemed like everyone had one....not this one
Im good on this one, ill keep my 2005 trailblazer, cool features tho
Yeah I love this thing! So why does the Trax still exist?! It's smaller (which I didn't even know) less attractive and cost more??!!
5 years later that little engine is going to be half dead from lugging that kind of suv weight around.
The sound the doors make when they close isn't exactly solid
Don't worry you'll soon have a car!
Thank you so much for this review
rawr
Erggg it pisses me off that I like this. I have an older trailblazer and love it, this one seems quite good, I just need to remember they aren’t the same vehicle. Just the name lol. If they offered it with a larger engine live a small v6 as a performance option I’d love it.
You should do a Ford Taurus SHO 2010-2019
GM's rental car lineup looks great
Interior sounds loud...looking for a quiet cab.🙁
Kinda looks like a Lamborghini🔥😤
Would love to see you drive the Blazer RS!
Do you think you can get your hands on a 2021 Chevy Malibu premier to review
Very spacious!!
Please do the 2020 Ford Expedition
Winding road magazine channel has a video on it
Does it have enough power driving on the high changing lanes etc.
absolutely john...i own one...yes plenty power.
This car is so nice to use. Question, I put 89 octane gas for this, can i put 87 instead? Will it make my engine sound loud or not run smooth than 89?
I can't tell if the sound system is any good or not from this video
i'm surprised it didn't break down during the test...GM is improving
Why GM getting more expensive but with less comforts and options. Even at their base and midlevel trims. The 3 cyl scares me. I think chevy leaving the sedan market is really going in the wrong direction.
I'm really curious on how an i3 will hold up
Do your maintenance don't abuse it should last long time the main reason for engine failure is lack of maintenance
Nice
Can you review a 2021 blazer RS please?
Brother you should be driving for the nascar making nervous how fast and calmly you talk driving that trailblazer 😂
Good video not a fan of the 1.3L though, needs a v8
Hemi swap it. I dare you
They could at least put LED headlights! The halogen headlights don’t fit at all on this car! They don’t make sense! But in my opinion in every new car the car companies/manufacturers should put LED headlights even in the basic/base versions/trims!
Wish my 2018 Malibu came with the 9 speed with stop start. Obviously I could get the 2.0 w the 9 speed but wanted auto start stop and I have a 14 2.0. Like it a lot but wanted something different
Why would anybody want the auto start stop
@@greatvaluechoppedonions8130 the Chevy’s I’ve driven with it are very non intrusive
@@zero2sixty244 it was horrible in a jeep Cherokee I rented two years ago
@@greatvaluechoppedonions8130 I agree. It lurches and is harsh. Toyota’s was a little harsh when I drove the RAV4
Hey man can you do an older tahoe like 2006?
nice
What a time to live in. The Trailblazer used to be a big brawny SUV with a 400hp 6 liter V8...now it's a CUV with a itsy bitsy 1.3 liter 3 cylinder. Viva la green revolution baby.
stop living in the past...lol....this is an awesome vehicle
You most definitely won't be blazing any trails with this Trailblazer.
Yet I'm still tempted to lift one 😅
Haha I had to as I have family who live off a dirt road. My 2021 Trailblazer was like 'uhh this is not the Starbucks drive thru" 😂
Do they make these with manual transmission?
Chevrolet did the Trailblazer Name dirty
can you do jeep grand cherokee pov night drive please
it reminds me of the Hyundai Venue
I was thinking the same thing!! And I wanted a venue
