Another interesting book pile. I am currently really enjoying Janny Wurts - To Ride hells Chasm, also reading Simon Jimenez - The spear Cuts through Water, Lord Dunsany - The King of Elflands Daughter and bookclubing the first four Earthsea books for our local scifi/fantasy bookshop Parallel Worlds. All good stuff, especially the Janny Wurts, Cheers.

Great linup! I didn't love Spear Cuts Through Water but it was beautifully written and memorable if nothing else. I keep meaning to get around to Wurts because of how much I loved her Empire series with Feist. I imagine the scope of her stuff is why I haven't mustered the energy to try yet.

@@TheObsessiveBookseller I picked To Ride Hell's Chasm bc unlike most of Wurts stuff it's a standalone, a very well written examination of human interaction among other good things so far. I kinda feel the same as you about Spear Cuts Through Water, unique and beautifully written but not always resonating with me. Jimenez's other book "The Vanished Birds" absolutely did though, similarly unique and poetic but I really cared about the characters, and the plot and world were so beautiful and interesting, highly recommended if you have not yet tried it yet.

Woooo A Time of Courage is so great, and I love that you’re taking your time with it and savoring it (though I imagine that will become impossible once the momentum becomes too strong!).
I caught the shout-out when you discussed the Sea Watch, and can’t wait to see your reaction to this undersea adventure!

Thanks Ben! Savoring books has been the theme of my life lately and it's so paying off! I'm enjoying the Gwynne for sure but OMGSH Sea Watch has been amazing! Likely my favorite since the first book so far. The exploration and novelty of new things is even better than I could've imagined!

Thank you! Yeah I lucked out! Although I probably would've figured out a way to squeeze it in regardless.

Sounds like you have been and will be reading some great books. I always love the differences in people lol you mentioned that classic fantasy is your least favorite sub genre now, well it’s my favorite and well over 90% of what I’ve been reading. (maybe it’s my age, I’m 53 and that’s what I grew up reading.)

It's where I started as a reader, and I have a feeling I'll drift back to it eventually. I can already see myself more interested. I watched an interview with R.A. Salvatore last week that has me looking at his Demon Wars and other books with suddenly more interest. I think what I need is simplification first.

I am really interested in what you think about The Sea Watch. I was plowing through the Apt series but this one brought me to a screeching halt and i haven't gone back. With the deep sea setting and sea creature kinden, i expected it to be my favorite to that point. I don't k ow why but it was a slog for me. I keep telling myself i'm going to go back and finish the series but I haven't yet. Hopefully next year because this year is stacked with Cosmere and Osten Ard rereads ( not that I've reread anything yet 😂).
I am still reading Tchaikovsky, though. Started House of Open Wounds amduring my lunch break today.

Yeah haha I'm planning to reread a few Stormlight before the new release as well. I tell you what - Sea Watch is what I needed to reinvigorate the series! I was missing that novelty of discovery. I'm not through it yet but am loving it. Isn't that funny? I'm curious to see how the next books will go.
Nice! My book club is reading City of Last Chances in May, so that series is on my mind...

Fyi The Black Iron Legacy is not a trilogy. It's why I haven't started it yet. A few years ago he said the plan was 5 books but I'm not sure if they weren't selling well enough or what but he's been focusing on that Sword Defiant series instead. I think he still wants to come back and finish it at some point.

Oh no... haha I guess I wont be marking it completed when I'm done. Many thanks for letting me know. I imagine getting to the end expecting it to be conclusive would've been jarring.

I know, I'm really fortunate. I did through Edelweis Plus for a digital ARC. They still give me pretty good access from back when I was a bookseller.
