I had a FiiO M7 for around 8 months till it stopped working completely. When it worked it was a wonderful listening experience with intuitive design to boot. However those pleasant experiences were few and far between as it suffered from a multitude of issues. From rejecting the MicroSD card midway through a song and having it take 20+ tries for it to read it again and on top of that occasionally having to rescan gigabytes of music, to the performance completely tanking on occasion, the device was nothing short of a nightmare to use.
TLDR; I find myself in the market for a new DAP and don't want to spend too much money at the moment, I just want something that works. That being said has this stood the test of time? I don't want another M7 situation where I'd get only a short amount of good listening before having the thing implode. Should I just save up a little more for something more expensive or would you say is this a viable option for me?

My favourite feature is that you can swap out micro-SD cards. I can have as much or as little music, in any combination, as I like. Really good sound quality, I like the EQ changer.

It’s drag and drop the files, just like a USB thumb drive. I usually put my files in their own folders (like ‘Weezer’, ‘Oldies’, etc.) for easy navigation. The vast majority of my files came from ripping them off the CDs, but there are some inexpensive programs out there and free websites that can take a music video from UA-cam and turn it into an MP3 file.

I haven’t had any issues and for the price it is tough to beat. That being said, I’d go for something with a better DAC like the Mechen M30 or the F20 (not sure which company owns this one, now). The F20 is pricier, but I’ve had mine for four years and it is still one of my favorites. One day I’ll get around to doing a proper video on it.

@@RynoDBones Thanks so much! I'll look into those ones as well for sure. I'm also curious if you happen to know if m3u playlists need to be in the same folder as the files used in the playlist? For instance, if a playlist is stored in /Music/Playlists and the songs are stored in /Music/Albums/..., will the playlist operate correctly? I'm not sure how common this is on MP3 players anymore, but the manual wasn't very clear and I ran into it with a cheap one I found recently.

@@jilliancaulfield1706 most of these players that don’t run on Android do not support M3U playlists. If they do, then the folder structure definitely needs to be in the same configuration it was when the list was made. On these devices they have "playlists" that you set up one song at a time using their own version on the device. It’s slow and painful, and on some you can’t get rid of the playlist after you’ve put it together. Haha. What I do is pre-make my folders in groups of about 20 songs and play from the file explorer instead of the main music loader.

My FiiO FH:E Eclipse, no EQ, swear to god this DAP makes it sound like $2 gas station earbuds. I got the updated V2.0 software and an Amazon reviewer said he ordered 2, one had old software like 1.6 and it sounded far better. Unless you’ve got decent wired headphones, you probably won’t be able to tell much difference. If you’re using Bluetooth earbuds, they’re gonna sound pretty much the same. I’ve got old ears and mediocre headphones. I can’t hear much difference (and at this price range, I don’t think they’ll be that different anyway) Haha. Overall I do like the F20 better, though. One thing I noticed about the Z6 is that the beginnings of songs I ripped are randomly cut off. Tried encoding the file as mp3 at 320, .wav, and even FLAC, all with the same results. There are less expensive players I own that handle the same files that don't do this.

What is the search function like? I have over 2000 songs for example if I'm looking for a title that begins with the letter' R' can I get to it easily?
The Mechen one I bought and then returned it the same day I got it because of the crappy search feature. Even when I put songs into folders I still have like 500 to go through. And then it would freeze or lag.
The Surfans F20 doesn't play songs by artists, just artist's albums so that was also a dealbreaker for me.
I am trying to upgrade my current Sony NWE395/R 16GB Walkman MP3 Player. It allows search by letter and it plays songs by artists, but the output for the car is horrible. I have to turn it on max and my car volume almost to the max to even hear it.

    Any Suggestions?

    • @RynoDBones
      @RynoDBones  2 роки тому

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever used the search function. I have it set on shuffle and just let it run. I’ll check it out when I get a chance, but I imagine the search feature is going to be pretty laggy with a large library. I have several thousand songs myself. Ripped all my CDs from when I worked at a music store in the 90’s, Haha. I’ve got the F20 and again, never really noticed that…because again I only play on shuffle (I’m a creature of habit). I’ve been using a P5S daily in my car for about a month and I adore it. Sound output is limited by Android, but I don’t have to really crank the volume to get it going. Sounds best through the aux connection, but I’ve yet to drop a signal with Bluetooth. I have the Mechen and a touch screen player from AGPTek in my to-review pile. I will check those functions when I make those videos. For a good search function, you might be stuck with an Android device. The P5S is really pretty great, but it goes out of stock fairly often.

@@RynoDBones thanks for the reply. Playing all songs by artist and having a search feature are deal breakers for me if an mp3 player doesn't do it. (Guess I'm spoiled by Sony x_x) Here's a video of what I mean by searching for letter from my sony walkman and playing all songs by artist.
      ua-cam.com/users/shorts3rnOI8o_jSE?feature=share
No lagging issues with it either, but like I said, even connected with an Aux port to my car the sound just isn't up to par and I have to turn everything up to max. It's an older player, just wish the sound was better then I wouldn't be looking to upgrade. Sony Walkman doesn't seem to be producing more in the US (not for a reasonable price anyway). I may end up importing a higher sony model from Japan and just changing the language on it.

They love to bundle in some useless stuff with these. I was just sent a Mechen M30 which might be more appropriate for just playing all sorts of music. It also reminds me of the F20, but at a much nicer price. I’m in the getting to know the player stage right now, but hope to have the video out next week. I will also be making a review for the F20, but I have the model from before the company changed their name. It is an awesome music player with an exceptionally good DAC for the price. So far the Mechen is a very close competitor. If you want something budget, though, without all the bells and whistles…the SanDisk Clip is pretty great. I get not wanting all that, but also at the budget price is something called the BERENNIS D08 which is a modernized clone of the Meizu M6 which was an awesome player.

@@JosePedro-fj1vh Damn, that's a shame because I was considering getting this one, but I love bass. Honestly just about every MP3 player I've checked seems to have reviews complaining about the sound quality of the bass.
It sounds like you've owned quite a few MP3 players in the past; Do you have any you'd recommend for less than $200?
      Thanks in advance!

The Phinistec Z6 sounds horrible, it distorts the bass even if you hear it low. Very nice player on the outside, but it sounds awful. I do not recommend it. I tried it with several headphones, Jbl, Jlabs, xiaomi, and with all of them it sounds HORRIBLE. My xiaomi cell phone is better than this device that sounds worse than those old mini mp3 players for US$ 4
