I have to say this is the most straight forward and To the point tutorial on an elaborate cake I've seen! Thank you so so so much for puttin up on how to make this cake. I saw one on insta and I thought never in my dreams could I even attempt that but seeing your video makes me want to try it right now lol. You make it so easy to understand and explain each and every detail so clearly without being vague and ambiguous about some of the essential details like paint shades... Actual Product names and where to buy. Thanks so much. Love your videos and keep up the amazingly good work for us amateurs to aspire to 😊
This is soooo gorgeous! Love this tutorial so much. If I just saw this cake, I would not think I could do it. With the right moulds, I now think that I could. Thank you! A lot of hours I'm guessing 🤔
I made a cake folowing your instructions here. It was gorgeous!!! Thank you very much, my daughter was very, very happy!!!! If I could, I'd show you a picture... Thank you again!!
Tereza Pinto ahhh that's so nice! You've made my day, Tereza! I'd love to see a photo, you can send me one on Instagram or Facebook at Sweetie Darling Cakes, or by email info@sweetiedarlingcakes.co.uk ☺️ I really want to see haha can you tell?! 😄 Billie xx
also are the figures made from the mould made using fondant or gumpaste? thanks! I'm hoping to recreate this as it's a lovely cake and most straight forward tutorial I've seen yet!
it is my dream to do a carusel cake apart from the unicorn cake as well. thank you for the tutorial really interesting and kept it simple. thanks so.much
once you painted the moulds gold how long was it before you placed them on the cake ? where they completely dry and was the sugar paste still flexible ? sorry for all the questions, great video and thank you for taking the time to make these xx
Hi Christine, I actually put them in the fridge until I was ready so the paint had dried but the icing was still flexible enough to wrap around the cake :) x
new subbie....great job, the cake looks wonderful. Just a quick question...I've never worked with fondant/ sugar paste/gum...to decorate a cake...any tips on things to be weary of, i plan to decorate the cake 1 day before the party and am worried the next day the sugar paste bits and pieces will have dried out, cracked or fallen off when it comes to the next day. I am going all out and also will be trying some edible gold lustre....again any tips would be appreciated. TIA
Hi Samia, I normally decorate cakes several days before an event so don't worry about bits drying out and falling off. If the decorations and the main fondant are both dry you will want royal icing to stick the two parts together. Water or sugar glue doesn't work when it is two dry pieces being stuck together. Regarding your fondant, give it a good knead before you roll it out- it needs to be nice and soft and pliable. The edible gold lustre is fantastic! My biggest tip for that is to mix it away from your cake because the dust can travel and land places you don't want it to land! Take a spare piece of fondant and do some test brushes on it, make sure the colour is coming out how you want before you go onto your actual decorations. And with the decorations, make a couple of spares if you have the time. You can guarantee if you have spares you won't need them BUT if you don't have spares... something is bound to test you :) Good luck!! Let me know how it goes!! Billie :)
Absolutely beautiful, I've been looking for ages trying to find a proper carousel tutorial and now my search is over, thank you so much, extremely helpful! 😃 Just one question....where did you purchase the clear plastic straws and the paper ones? Thank you, Jacky
+Jacky Gardner hi Jacky, both would've been from Amazon- I get soooo much for there ☺️ I'm so pleased the liked the tutorial, thank you so much 💕 Billie xx
Hi Jacek, do you mean for the gold? If so, it is by Claire Bowman but it is non-edible. If you need it to be edible then use Rolkem gold- the colour is amazing and it's edible :) Billie x
I originally thought piping jelly would be fine but they were too heavy so royal icing all the way!!!! I had to hold them in place for a little while but the royal icing held them so well! And in response to your other question below I think I used just fondant for this one but I do think gum paste would be easier and I would more than likely do that next time round. So glad you liked the video! Let me know how you get on with your carousel!! Billie x
+SweetieDarlingCakes thanks for the advice, royal icing it is. I'll share a pic once I get round to making it, looking forward to giving it a go, thanks for such a clear tutorial 💜
The cake is edible, which is the part that matters 😃👍 If you want the middle part and top part edible, you can just switch the dummies for cakes. Just make sure there are cake boards under the cakes so they can be supported by dowels ☺️

Lovely tutorial, can I ask what you used to stick the gold pieces on to the top piece (cake board) edges? I would be worried they'd fall off!
