Ferrari Theme Parks Are So Strange

  • If I had a nickel for every Ferrari theme park, I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right? You might recall that I just recently went to Legoland Florida and there, one of the interactive exhibits is LEGO Ferrari Build and Race. While not particularly large, it did remind me that there was a theme park, Ferrari Land in Spain. However on researching it, I discovered Ferrari World on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, which led me down the rabbit hole of Ferrari theme parks. So, let's take a look at some of the most uniquely branded parks, because their theme is definitely different and more intriguing than anything you'll find at Disney or Universal.

Here’s quick list of corrections of factual mistakes I made in the video:
    - DrPepperone made the point that F1 is hosted in both Abu Dhabi and Catalunya, so Ferrari theme parks placed where they are makes a lot of sense.
    - benjaminrosa1418 corrected me, in that PortAventura is not located in Barcelona, but rather its neighboring city of Tarragona

I believe the reason why 1910s era planes are prominent in the parks is that it is a tribute to the origins of the horse from Ferrari’s emblem. It originally belongs to Italian WW1 ace, Count Francesco Baracca, whom Enzo Ferrari had the opportunity to meet after winning a circuit race. He suggested to Enzo that he should add the prancing horse to his cars for good luck. And that is how the emblem came to be.

@@PoseidonEntertainment rabbit hole? No need. You could have done some basic research (watching coasterbot's video about flying aces) and it would have told you that this ride is themed to the origins of the ferrari emblem, and you are part of the squadron of aircraft that sported the prancing horse emblem in WWI. I can confirm this is true as I have been on the ride and have experienced it's extremely well themed queueline.

The next video series i want from Poseidon Entertainment is how you would build your own theme park from scratch. Almost like those city planner games. Explain how your version of main street would be, how many parks would make sense for the theming. A collab with a different theme park channel each video to get different perspectives on the history of parks, past attractions, etc.

It would be interesting seeing what sort of themes, concepts, and ride types he'd populate it with. (That would mean commissioning a lot of concept art, though...)

I think it’s because Italians are already predisposed to Ferrari as a brand, having it in a place like the UAE makes sense to me as people there already have a liking for supercars, racing culture AND a good amount of population with the necessary income to buy a Ferrari.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a visit to a theme park like this swayed some people into buying a Ferrari or at least being fans of Ferrari as a brand and racing team.

As someone who gave 5 years to the design of Ferrari World AND thinks Poseidon is one of the best theme park channels on UA-cam, I quite enjoyed this. Yes, the biplane exists because of Baracca and the origins of the prancing horse logo, as one commentator said. Poseidon, you could have easily researched that. Glad “Made in Maranello” is still there. “Speed of Magic” had always budget issues and the name was silly. The mouse shooter was originally a Ferrari History dark ride with some great CGI by ReelFX Studios and Ferrari car models and scenic by P&P projects. I think it closed, because it heavily leaned on Michael Schumacher before he defected to Mercedes, but I don’t know. Probably also because the park was lean on family fun rides back then. Ferrari stipulated to use Ferrari architect Massimiliano Fuksas to be used for interior design. That’s why it looks like a mall. They did not want any theming. Wish we could have done some Italian street theme and glad they changed their mind. Most money went into the giant super structure and the formula Rossa coaster and we had to do a lot of value engineering. Never got to visit the park, but it was still one of the coolest projects I’ve ever worked on.

I would have thought this would be invaluable for creative people to see what ACTUALLY worked and what didn't - and yes, I know that creatives get hamstrung by budgets and accountants. My guess is licensing fees are why Ferrari land is a separate ticket from PortAdventura.
If it was another land to the existing park, Ferrari would likely want a cut of ticket revenue, maybe even food and merch.
With Ferrari Land being a separate ticket, they can isolate those fees to just the Ferrari Land. So PortAdventura gets the draw of a Ferrari park for the resort, but isn't losing any existing profits to pay for it. The park essentially paying for itself.

The Ferrari park in Dubai was made for coaster nuts. Ask any adrenaline junkie what their dream trip is and most will say it's this park. The speed and unique coaster themeing really pulls people in.
Like you said, the UAE is trying to become the ultimate tourist destination despite the fact there's zero tourism outside of millionaires and billionaires on business trips.
It's been very fascinating seeing the UAE develop over the past 24 years, very curious to see what they'll look like in 20 more.

Just got recommended this video which lead me to subscribing. I'd be interested if you looked at my home city of Perth, Australia, as we've had a couple of interesting parks that either collapsed or never got off the ground. The collapsed one was basically Perth's attempt to replicate the success of Seaworld, called Atlantis Marine Park and the pie in the sky one was a planned safari style open range zoo announced by a now former Premier.

While the Portaventura hasn't got a great reputation when it comes to operations, its one of the most beautifully designed parks in the world, with stunningly themed lands that aren't polluted with movie IP everywhere you look! Its well worth a visit and I'd suggest a video, given its interesting history with Busch and Universal, with it being on the final short list of European locations for Disney, which ultimately went to Paris......and with recent rumours that Universal may even buy it once more (although that now seems unlikely if Universal great Britain goes ahead).

  • @danilyons2367

I was pleasantly surprised by Ferrari land at portaventura to be honest, the theming is quite nice and a nice contrast to the main park-which is wildly superior and one of the best parks in the world in all fairness. There’s nothing like red force in Europe, and the flying theatre was amazing, although I admit it’s the only one I’ve done. The simulator’s not worth bothering with though. I think it’s definitely worth viewing it as an upcharge land, rather than a second gate, as you usually get it bundled with the main entrance, and it’s really easy to park hop between the two parks.

    • @PoseidonEntertainment
      @PoseidonEntertainment  12 днів тому

Even for individual pricing, it seems reasonable. I imagine that the flying theater is acceptable, but I would assume fails to live up to both versions of Soarin' or Flight of Passage. It's the right fit for the right park

Why Ferrari Land and Port Aventura are quite terrible is how crowded to parks get during holidays in combination with the less then stellar operations. This leads to insanely long queues, messy and an overal kind of shabby atmosphere. The park is actually located in Salou, which is a very popular place to go for young adults from all over Europe. Its beach, partying, drinking, you know it. And besides Salou there are many more of this type of beach resort places along the coast that really focus on entertainment instead of "secluded tranquility" if you know what im saying. I think thats why they located the park there, it fits well with the type of holiday people are having in that area anyways but in my opinion the parks should be completely avoided in july and august for that reason.

If you use Ferrari for a theme park as education as well as fun.
