Dana Barron, who played the original Audrey in National Lampoon's Vacation, was on board to reprise her role in European Vacation. But since Anthony Michael Hall wasn't returning to play Rusty, and they were going to have to replace him, they went ahead and got a new Audrey as well. So this movie kind of wrecked Dana Barron's career.
I was invited to an early market preview when I lived in LA at the time… I loved it then before the second round of edits. There were X marks on frames and even greasy (pizza) fingerprints on the print I watched…no credits I recall. We then did a several page survey at the end. Only one I ever went to.
I worked for a company that would "score" those surveys. We had a grading system and passed the results to the film makers. Weird job, did not pay good, lol.
It would be a crime to remake this film. I'm finding myself watching old movies more and more, as lately everything seem to just comes off an assembly line.
It wouldn't work even if they did it with all the practical effects. The time the place and the people are important too. And that genuine western society that these movies where made in doesn't exist anymore. It's been dismantled and replaced by a lesser society that is on the verge of imploding.
Thankfully it was Kelly LeBrock. She was a looker for sure. I’m from the same generation as the boys in the film and have seen it countless times. I grew up watching many of the movies they all made in their careers. Great movie in my opinion.
So back in either 2018 or 19 the cast of Weird Science did our local Con in D.C. My daughter and I were cosplaying Barf and Dark Helmet, and we had bras on our heads for the photos!! Anthony Michael Hall could not stop laughing. Kelly quipped up, "OMG...I LOVE SPACEBALLS!!" and Ilan could not stop pointing at the back of my daughters helmet because it had dropped and cracked the day before. We put duct tape in big X's over the cracks and wrote "LUDACRIS SPEED SUCKS!!" on the back in silver sharpie!!
I never realised Ilan is wearing the same shirt and suit in The Goldbergs! Also: I have the same issue of Time magazine and there's an article in there about the Apple Lisa actually - I've always wondered if the magazine came first and they got the name for LeBrock's character from it or if it was just a coincidence. Also also: Chet wasn't turned into a turd, though lots of people seem to think so. According to SFX artist Craig Reardon on a blu Ray special feature, they referred to it as the 'Chet Blob', and he's just meant to be a disgusting creature
There was no 'falling out' between them. Hall wanted to work outside of the John Hughes circle. Honestly, it was a poor decision for Hall, but it wasn't a falling out.
cool. i learned one thing, i didnt know they had a fallout during production, that explains to me why he was pretty much gone after this movie. 1 thing i can add, John said in an interview that he also wrote Planes, trains and automobiles in 3 days.

My first movie as a kid was Twister at a drive in at night when I was 3 or 4 and I remember it. I watched it from back of a wood trimmed station wagon. Can't wait for the new sequel.

My friend who was 13 same as I, were trying to go see another flick (maybe Remo Williams?) but the very Californian valley dude behind the counter said this movie playing 30 min later would be way more totally bitchin for us "lil dudes" to see. Same dude a couple years later sold me tickets to Bill & Ted and a few others and I took his recommendations as gospel and never felt bad he still worked at a movie theatre because he always seemed happy and liked interacting with people more then any fatigue for a monotonous job, as far as I'm concerned that dude wins at life.

I don't know why they felt the scene had to be reshot. It fits the scene. It's not out of character. And it's a good humorous touch. The director should have regarded the accidental fart as a stroke of luck, kept it in, and saved the considerable expense of a reshoot.
Minor correction: the nude pianist was the Playmate Of The Month (and hence had the centerfold) in May of 1982, not October. Also, her name is spelled "Kym Malin." 😉
