Money is money. It comes and goes. Be happy, but what you want and live it to the fullest and enjoy your loved one because once they are gone that's it.
My engagement ring was $25 - the cost to resize and clean his great-aunt's engagement ring. Love it. Get compliments on it all the time. I'm glad he didn't spend $$$ on it.
My man was definitely on board with my expectations. I already knew exactly which ring I wanted. I showed him a picture and, while seeming to get a bit nervous, he just said whatever I wanted, he’d make happen.
Then he saw the price and was FLOORED. I chose a ring with a beautiful moissanite center stone. He was even more surprised when I told him that that was the price for both the engagement ring and wedding band together :)
Now a day’s, women can get extraordinarily beautiful rings without having to spend a fortune. 2-3 months of his pay? I’d never be comfortable with him spending that much!!!
Diamond aren’t the only option anymore.
I agree! I wouldn't have let my husband spend all that money when he proposed.I call my engagement ring "minimalistic"- it's actually very stylish and beautiful and it didn't cost the earth.
Remember guys, this is meant to last you your entire life diamonds are strong enough to last forever that is why they’re expensive, money comes and goes, don’t go broke obviously but don’t cheap out either get what you can afford 2-3 months is a lot 1.5-2 months is more reasonable
2-3 months seems awfully excessive. I know you said that was max, but still... My goodness! I wish girls would realize that the ring is just a symbol. You might need that money for much more important things. My hubby picked out my ring on his own, as a 19 year old. He did a great job and didn't spend a ton. I still love him and we are still married 11 years and 4 kids later!
EmeryShae haha thank you for tgar i literally scrolled down to see what people wrote about this. Lol 10-15k on a ring?... Im saving for a downpayment on a house
I agree, im going ring shopping tomorrow my budget is 1500 or less. We do very well for ourselves but neither of us wear jewelry so I dont see the reason in spending a tremendous amount of money.
Hi, im wondering how do guy buy ring for marriage proposal and it suit her girl finger and not too big or too small. Im confuse.
EmeryShae Haha, I can understand that. My personal opinion, and the opinion of others, is generally one month’s salary.
I just bought a ring for about 2 month’s, but that was mostly my limit - had I seen an amazing ring that happened to be less, I would have had no shame in getting it for a month’s. I put funds aside for about 10 months specifically for a ring, so it was a gradual accumulation.
Yes! Smart people in this section! My S.O could spend that, but why?! Making memories, puchasing a house, taking vacations, replacing furniture, a roof, a car etc are all so much more important than a huge rock on your finger. A ring is suppose to be a symbol of the love you share. Size is not based off how much you care.
Really nice to see a woman point out the craziness that some ladies have regarding ring expectations. I once had someone tell me that thing ring was an investment in her and should be appropriately sized, ie no less than 2 carats. Needless to say we moved on from each other; not because I felt 2’carats was too much, but as you said, it was an indicator of future problems to come
I'm a guy, and yes I am watch the Rachel Cruze show. Because there is so much wisdom to be had by listening to you and your father. Keep it up. God Bless.
Anything over $2000 max for an engagement ring AND wedding band is a terrible investment. $2000 is pushing it.
exactly, she said maximum 2-3 months pay, but thats like 3800-5500 dollars for me, thats a bit much for a ring if u ask me.. or does she mean the 2-3 month pay remainder after insurance, rent, electricity, gas ? in that case it would be under 2K
I also agree. After tax I earn $4,000 a month, I couldn't imagine a man buying me the equivalent of a $8,000-$12,000 ring. That could pay for a good portion of the wedding!
Well it's not an investment! Its an expense. Now if you can't afford more then 2k fine! But if you can she deserves it! Pluse take some pride open the change purse a little more👍
Yep. I told my S.O nothing over 1.5k. He has the money to spend quadruple but we have a life to live, memories to make.
A tip I just learned- bare with me here. He gave me a budget and I was going to get a Moissanite ring. I spent some time on Reddit and realized that I could get a lab grown diamond for the same price. Brought it up to the Mr., he preferred a diamond. I took that budget and off to do more research! We ended up with a beautiful diamond ring! Online shopping is the way to go! I recommend Clean Origin or Ritani!!
For us, two grown adults that are completely independent, he wanted to be traditional and buy me the ring. He chose a budget on what he was comfortable with,
and not off the two-three month salary you’re saying. It worked great and I don’t feel guilty.
I came here for advice and to educate myself...... and her advice was “educate yourself”
Shanks a million
lol
Cost depends on where you are in life. Im 51 and just bought an engagement ring for the first time. I paid about 2-3 months salary but I had the money. I wouldn't have had the money when I was 25.
There are so many diamond alternatives you can get A LOT with one week’s pay now a days. There’s moissanite, white sapphire, blue sapphire, morganite, opal, and even lab created diamonds if you insist. If a diamond is what you truly want and you can’t afford it just wait or buy something like a cubic zirconia as a starter, then you can always replace the stone or whole ring later.
It's crazy what people spend I told my now fiance no more then a month salary and he had to cash flow the ring. He was smart and found a jeweler to make my ring and it was perfect now we are working on cash flowing our wedding for next year. Dave Ramsey has changed our lives and is molding our futures.
Forget a Ring, buy a house
You can do both as long as you aren’t already in a ton of debt. Rings don’t need to be 2-3 months of income and you don’t have to buy the most expensive house.
It is all possible if one is knowledgeable and responsible.
A responsible person would realize it's a huge waste of money to purchase a piece of metal with rocks in it in the first place.
No more than a month's income** that's what it should be
Ferguson101 I would give you 15 thumbs up...but it wont let me. I understand buying a ring can be fun, but if some woman is more concerned about the size of the rock on her finger than she is the one who she is actually gonna marry....choose someone else.
Two weeks sounds about right. Or what you would save in a month perhaps, there's no real rule, but around that. Diamond engagement rings are the product of the best marketing campaign ever.
Or something you can pay for when the bill comes. Another thing to consider is, how expensive of a ring she is going to be comfortable wearing. It might be a lot more comfortable to wear a ring from $300.-$500. than $3,000.-$5,000.
puppymonkey baby my ring is 5k and that’s just one month I think that’s more Than enough x :)
Why? I'm not going broke for ring that's going to devalue in a few months
2-3months ..!?
My fiancè let me pick my own ring (because he said im the one wearing for the rest of my life lol) and i found my perfect one for $140
There's no reason to spend thousands .. thats crazy
Where I I was looking, they ran from $30.-$700. JUST FOR FUN, I looked at what I thought was the best looking one (WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE PRICE), and it was one of the $100. ones. Though some of the $300. ones were nice too. But isn't that funny that the most cool looking one was only $100.?
eternalhalloween1 where did you go??
Yeah tbh it's strange to spend thousands of dollars on a ring.. Like it's this tiny piece of jewelry wth...
Just a heads up; you and your significant other know best on her taste. DON’T GO BROKE!
That said, it’s not a bad idea to consider sustainability of the ring. My fiancé isn’t a fan of gold/yellow jewelry. While white gold is cheaper than platinum, I knew the white would wear off over 10-20 years and begin to have a yellow-ish look. So I decided to put some extra away for a platinum ring. No shame in wanting her to look at the same ring at age 60 the same way she did at 25.
Finally, so many ring buying guides from men, and for me, her opinion is a bit more fitting lol. Thanks for the upload🤙🏾
2 months salary was affordable for me since I was saving up to get married for over 2 years.
There’s a smart guy!
She sounds like Lillian from Rugrats
You can get a great ring for $200. Its funny how many people talk about how important love is. but the marriage/wedding industry tells you you're cheap if you don't through away thousands of dollars...Its almost like they are manipulating us or something hmmmm...
Good pointers. Thank you. 😊 I thought I just had to surprise her and didn't know she could help pick it out. Whew. Relief.
if it's true love she'll say yes even if it's a 50$ ring!
Domi Blanche agreed
Yeah but it still matters how much $$$ he's sacrificed for you! It takes time and effort to earn wages
Can you propose with a 2nd hand engagement ring from a pawn shop if a new one is out of your budget?
@@John-kv7jo I would love that much more than the guy going broke or even close to broke. Honestly, my mother's is my father's grandmother's. It's beautiful! So yes, go for it!
Cut...Clarity...Carrot...Color...Got it!
*carat my friend. We're not shopping for vegetables here
Holly crap I didn't know you were Dave's daughter until you mentioned it. I just happened to click on your video because I'm looking for an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I listen to Dave everyday. Very good tips and some wisdom along with them. Thank you.
1:20 - checked out thumbs down. That was a marketing tactic used in the past.
Rachel,
Your Dad suggests one-months income for an engagement ring. Do you both agree on that? lol. I see this video is a couple of years old.
2 to 3 months ?!!!! If the woman wants a ring that expensive she can buy it. #notamug
welshhibby, you should not spend even 1 month and, even better yet, do not get married.
She said "no more than 2-3 months". All her tips were about buying what you can afford so I don't see why people are getting upset.
user 007 yes I totally agree no man should get married there's no benefit NONE. #mgtow
Maybe she means 2-3 months from your budget?
Eg. In 2-3 months you can budget that amount from your wages to spend?
Lol yeah that raised my budget
I’ve never understood paying thousands of dollars for rings. To me having a big stone would be a pain since it would get caught on stuff, plus I told my bf that I didn’t want a diamond since they are pretty but boring (I am a color girl), and yes I know diamonds are the strongest stone but that doesn’t make them the only lasting stone. I have seen plenty of good quality rings that are only a few hundred dollars, and yes they are usually with semiprecious stones not diamonds but I think any ring can be an engagement ring because it is a symbol and should fit the couple.
Exactly! The diamond industry is a scam.
3 months of my salary its 16,000 no way I am spending that on a ring!!! This is what its wrong with this world, put so much focus on a ring rather important things in life, dont spend more than 3k on a ring for engagement save that money for when the time comes and treat you and your woman to a nice beautiful honey moon or save for the future, no way A woman “needs” an expensive ring for you to prove her love to her, actions speak louder and rings and words, good luck to anyone reading this and treat her like a queen every day
Antonio J. Jimenez To start, well done on the great salary.
You’ve got a lot of leverage with one month’s. Get something amazing with cash and put the rest away for your future together.
wait isnt this woman on Ramesy show? wow Ramsey teaching me how to save money and now theyre giving me ring advise
Thanks for keeping it real
One tip is to never go to a brick and mortar shop unless you are buying a vintage piece, or just to look at styles and sizes. then go online to James Allen or Blue Nile to get the diamond and setting. Save yourself the massive markup costs, have a selection that is almost endless, typical 30 day money back guarantees, totally insured shipping by the seller, and the benefits go on from there.
I like vintage pieces....
2-3 months? Has your dad seen this video?
I disagree with 2-3 months income budget, should be whatever he/she can afford and alternative options are available besides diamond anyway. Not all of us are greedy and want over priced jewellery.
Well if a guy is cheap and picks tiny diamond and the girl wants a little bigger won’t hurt but to call her crazy and needing another conversation makes you sound crazy.
I saw many discussions about the 2-3 months thing, I think what she meant is more about "how much sacrifice" than "how much money", and also that is "no more than". So it's more like "don't sacrifice more than 3 months of your effort on a ring" instead of "paying 10-15k of money", it's not about money, it's about how much effort of yours. My grammar is bad but I hope I made my point.
but the thing about certified gemologists they know diamonds are not worth much my future father in law worked in the New York diamond district for 10 years so there is nothing wrong with looking at different stones too
for example, what kind of stones? sorry but I m soo clueless about this subject and my husband and I, in the process of buying a new set for our 18 years anniversary of course I don't want him to overpay for? thank you
Shut up
Brace yourself comments by douchebags are coming. look you don't have to get her a ring, you don't have to spend a crazy amount, this is only a suggestion to those who do want to get a ring for their partner. And girls getting engagement rings for their fellas is also becoming quite popular. Let's try to have an open mind about this and not just make it a guy buying for a girl. No matter your sexual orientation, if you want to propose and are pretty sure they would want a ring go for it. Guys can have engagement rings too if they want.
2-3months? I could buy a boat. Victim of the De Beers marketing right there.
Thanks for the tips great video !
Great advice! Dave Ramsey says 1 month of expenses (and maybe upgrading down the road).
Only if you get to upgrade the woman. Lol, rings are a ridiculous tradition that should disappear.
Came here to educate myself, tells me to educate myself...
Omg. I’m so lost. 2 months? That’s too much. I think 1 month is good. Here’s a trick I learned. Yes the 4 c. But you can save money by getting a lower color by getting a gold ring instead of platinum. Because the gold will reflect on the diamond.
Trick 2…choose moissanite over a diamond! :)
You crack me up! FLASHING LIGHTS!!
Thank you! Awesome tips
I am a guy watching this. ;)
But, I always do my homework. I am not even in a relationship yet.
lol I can't believe you just mentioned what a red flag would look like. So awesome.
Thanks for the applaud.
Thanks for the video! 🙂 I'm likely buying today 😊
Lol you had me cracking up with your intro! Great tips I wish I would've seen this video a year ago when i got married and engaged. 😃
Do it like Saturn and Put a Ring On It! Bling Bliing!
2-3 months 😳 thats like a 2 carat.. I'll stick to one carat lol
2 to 3 months of your income? I am shocked that Rachel actually said that, that is a lot of money
I assume I’ll just ask one of my girlfriends friends to let me know which ring she wants. Then, as a gentleman, sell my soul for half the price of the ring, while I begin my 60 year adventure as an indentured servant to our Debeers overlords.
Your Dad (Dave Ramsey for those of you who don't know) says only spend 1 month if salary.
Marguerite Kinchen Better than my Dessert.
Very good points. Thanks
Man, I didn't expect a video to be so hilarious! Big like
The thing is, if you know your stuff, then you know that diamonds are inherently worthless and it's all a scam. Then you realize that even 1 months income is too much.
Exactly, it's like all these people are zombies walking around thinking rings are soooo important. It's just a tiny hunk of metal with rocks in it. Why is that so special? Lol.
The ring I want is only a $100-$200 and I don’t want a diamond ring, I want a crystal gem.
Im not into jewelery and so after when he proposed. I did some research to see how much he spent... Why on earth would someone spend $3000 on a ring!
Because he loves you!
Love your video! Would like to recommend Juliet & Oliver jewelry website for unique engagement rings.
By the way, your little baby bump is adorable!
you have the beauty of a Queen, oh and thank you for your advice
The Cut is only graded on Round diamonds, If you arent buying a round diamond then cut goes out the window.
TheBlond183 actually there are different cuts available and those are what she is talking about.
Yeah I financed mine. It's like 4 months of my income.
Recklessly Arrogant wow....you done messed up
I did the same but paid it off within a month a half, :)
Great I’m an Uber drive I make $300 per month $600 ring got it
6 year ago Rachel I need your help now with a ring 💍!
As a lady myself, I love good looking big rock ring, however I don’t want to spend over $4000 on it. I want to invest my money and buy me a house. I’d rather be safe and have a roof over my head than just a ring.
I need to buy an engagement ring thats the reason why i visit youtube.. actualy i have no idea about engagement ring. everytime i see an engagement ring the color is always white? i was about to buy last week it was goodlooking ring good thing i didnt buy it. i want to buy gold, do I realy need to buy silver color for engagement?
Its not silver...its white gold or platinum. That is a more modern look, but maybe your lady prefers yellow gold. What type of jewelry does she wear? Observe her. If she wears more silver then go for white gold or platinum (or even palladium). Good luck.
J Ak thank you Madam for the info I appreciate! actualy before I leave her in Philippines, I ask her if i can Borrow her ring as a souviner cause we have desame size, i didnt tell her that im going to buy a ring for her after my contract her in Saudi. she was wearing silver ring.
Rachel, you said to bring her with you but isn't it better to surprise her and propose somewhere romantic?
What if she’s always in bratty diva mode? Am I right?!
I like this video ❤️
Me and my girlfriend feel the same about diamonds, waste of money...but I feel like the social pressure is making me get something over priced because of a useless rock.
“Useless rock” hahahahahahhahahahaha
Simple, don't give in to social pressure. Disregard the opinions of the mindless zombies and live your best life.
she said 2-3 months of my income and i stopped watching
500-1000 can get you a nice ring 2000 max. two to three months of my income would be $5000+
My boyfriend makes good money but theres absolutely no way I'd ever expect or let him pay 2 months salary on a ring. He can spend 2-4 weeks of pay on a ring. It's just a ring. We have a life to build and memories and trips to make we wouldnt be able to do if the rock on my finger was larger.
Unless the said income is so much that money means nothing to you, then max should be around 2 days pay, 3, max ^^
If you want to build wealth, don’t buy a diamond ring. Diamond rings are a scam. A friend of mine paid $6,000 for a diamond ring, got divorced, sold it back to the jewelry store, and they only gave her $600 for it. Cubic zirconias are way cheaper and just as beautiful.
Swarovski cubic zirconia is just as sparkly and beautiful as a real diamond if you must have the bling. No one can tell the difference except gemologists. It’s best to buy a plain gold band for the wedding band if you can afford it. Debeers makes way too much money selling compressed carbon crystals to jewelers.
Patriots4Trump #MAGA I went with an awesome James Allen platinum ring. My finance is the type that would pass her ring down if she could, so I made a conscious decision to go with something that had sustainability.
That said, I’m with you. If you’re a bit more limited or have other financial goals in mind, getting a quality Swarovski ring may be a great alternative. Better to be financially savvy and creative than a big spender and then broke.
No way I'm spending 24k on a ring.
Pawn shops can be great!
2-3 months income.. how do you plan to save that if you actually.. you know.. pay for yourself to live?
I was hoping you would have had some insight as to what women really want as far as cut, clarity, and carat instead of telling me to search google and ask her...
I love your voice and how you speak. So happy to hear it.
I like her tips
2 to 3 months salary is a pretty goofy standard, that's a hella lot of money for someone making 6 figures lol. Considering diamonds aren't really worth anything and are rocks that are marked 300- 1000% over true value you are already pretty much guaranteed to be throwing money out the window. Diamonds were literally created to trick women into valuing things with no value at all. I say keep your ring reasonable so you can afford to maybe take your girl on a nice trip, Ireland, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Idk but I have a hunch most people w a brain wouldn't mind a ring and a life experience or just the benefit of not starting your life together in debt.
See I didn't want him to spend a lot of money on my ring and I kind of settled on something I didn't love, but he did and it was in a budget I was comfortable with. He was willing to blow his whole savings account on it and I was like no more than $1200 because that's all we can afford. Fast forward two years I got sick two months after he proposed so we couldn't get married or I would be off my parents health care plan(ends at 26, and we've been together since we were 15).....and now I'm thinking I just want a nice simple solitaire ring. Since mine keeps falling apart. How do I ask him to let me buy it? Probably won't do it for another year, but still.
What happened?
3 months of income? So 12k cash? Get real!
Gina Belanger No more than two to three months. For some that may be 12k, and for others that may be 3k; it is up to the person not to be ignorant and blow all of their money on a ring. 12K cash amounts to roughly 131 dollars per day (depending on the hours you work per day), or 10-11 dollars per hour (within a 12 hour work day). With what is most likely a starting full time job, god no you shouldn't spend twelve thousand dollars on a ring. Common sense.
20k***
I like you. Thank you very much.
Thanks!
Matters how much $$$ he's sacrificed for you! It takes time and effort to earn wages
Master Chief nahh man I can’t agree with that
@@mikewazowski4991 Yeah but you have to take in to account how much the man earns haha, so earns $1 a day 10 percent is 10 cents
You look so beautiful in this video! I love the jewelry and colors you're wearing! :) - A u r o r a
I gave my lady friend a budget on what I can work with, and found 3 really nice I popping rings.
She has had a habit of going to the jewelry store alone looking at engagement rings. I told her not to go alone without me, because those sales people can be..........pushy
So I already had a ring picked out and it's in my price range, I was actually in the process of buying it, unknowing to her (not cheap, and not crazy expensive either).
The other day, she told me she went to the store one last time to just look at the ring I were talking about buying (the one she thought I was going to buy) a decoy.
She tells me she spoke with the jewelry sales person, and the lady explains to her all about diamond clarity, certification, and other stones are not so traditional as engagement rings.
to make a long short (because this already long enough) the sales person showed her this ring almost double the budget ring I originally gave, and now she's in love with this ring.
Even going as far as saying she'd help me purchase it. Which sounds crazy.
Don't get me wrong, the ring is really pretty, but i feel like this sales person caught her at a vulnerable state.
I'm not the bossy type, but I asked her not to do something, she did it anyway, and now an outside source created unnecessary drama. Had I been there, I would have saw the price tag and we wouldn't have even looked in that area.
What happened?
Youngest old lady I've ever seen.
You are the best! Very funny expressions =P
LMAO some good food for thought, because I'm blind to this world of engagement and stuff
Sukun Paul if you were to buy a ring, message me for tips. I'm well acquainted with the jewelry business and can help you out
PRECISE, KNOWLEDGEABLE, FUNNY, & AWESOME VIDEO. Mahalo's & God Bless... Gil Kiaha
Even if you're an idiot that wants to waste their money on overpriced rings, you still shouldn't spend any more than 1 months salary
But for most people don't go any higher than like 1 or 2 weeks worth
Im a fisherman 2-3 months of income is alot becuase this job is weird
Even with the over used quote of Beyoncé, I was able to gain a lot from this. Most advice I got from females are the materialistic type.
I am so disappointed there is already a ring on your finger.
But thank you for the info.
