- The good news is, we are living longer - and with advances in health care, older adults are living healthier, more fulfilling lives than previous generations. So what's the secret to embracing our next chapter, and to even look forward to it? Cathleen Toomey shares the secret to successful aging, in an uplifting and funny talk that people of all ages will relate to. Cathleen Toomey is branding professional who has helped build such NH brands as Timberland, Stonyfield Farm and UNH, and cut her teeth in ad agency work in New York City and Boston. In the last 10 years, Cathleen has been responsible for sales and marketing for RiverWoods, a nationally-accredited Continuing Care Retirement Community, as their VP of Marketing. A former non-profit board member for CrossRoads House, Prescott Park Arts Festival and Exeter Chamber of Commerce, she currently focuses her volunteer efforts with St. Vincent de Paul of Exeter. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
I will turn 74 May10 I am a low income senior, I believe the reason I am doing so well is good diet, going to the gym 5 days a week for the past 40 years, and a daily meditation.
Happy late birthday, I learn from your experience and wishing y0u all the good things
@@adriannguyen4128 Thank you for the kind words 🤗😖👍
Thank you for sharing, sir. Wishing you all good things.
Successful aging is smile a lot, forgive a lot, keep clean, be yourself without regret.
Thank you so much for motivating me to get out of the house. I was considering volunteering with the group SOS and now I’m certain that it’s the right thing to do.
You’ve made a difference to this 76 year old woman.
I like the way she giggles; it's endearing!
Yes, very, very good !.. thanks so much for this and well done on all you have done helping so many others too, including me !
Thank for this perspective..
Incredible topic & wonderful informations + advice. Thanks for sharing ❤
This was so brilliant!!! My favorite part was of course the 94 year old building the community pool.

Wow, she was such an enjoyable person to listen to can’t really say why maybe it’s because I am getting older so it’s a topic of interest, but she didn’t say anything all that enlightening that we don’t already all know, but she was just so enjoyable to listen to it was a great video.
An excellent talk. Great advice. 😊

Excellent
Great talk.
At 12:00 she says " Grow friendships. Relationships matter. Get some. Get out of the house". Well..... That is easy to say and VERY HARD TO ACTUALIZE!!! There isn't some store that you can just go to and "GET SOME" as she puts it!!! I have been trying to develop new friendships however meeting new people in of itself is frequently difficult. Now with this pandemic of the past couple of years it is even more difficult. One of the aspects of people saying things as she does is that they don't specify how to go about meeting new people and developing friendships. This causes me to feel annoyed when people say things like she does that sound so easy to say but realistically are not!!!
Yea, one of those loneliness bashing videos. I never knew how to make friends though, not even at school or in my twenties.
Beautiful
She has amazing hair.
I'm seventy five as long as I'm on "Top " I'm ok ,!!! Cheers ROBERT. 😘
I’m turning 75 next month. See myself getting a little lazy
I miss my conversation with people. Everyone wants to text🥲
We have had to learn to text out of desperation 😢l miss good conversation for with my friends. Good luck with 75. I’m sure it will be a trip🙏🌷👍😎
At 75 I find it impossible to retire🤓 why enjoyment of my profession and healthy living defined by daily exercise no alcohol or cigs etc and a conservative diet. With my wife at 68 still busy with educational admin. It works.
One important factor is go back to the town where you spent lot of years that gives you sense of belonging sort of close to heart
No one can guarantee a long life, but we can do our best through balanced nutrition, exercise, positive mindset, and manage our environment and stress.
“Being brave
Lets no one off the grave.
Death is no different whined at than
withstood.”
Philip Larkin.
We all have to get old...human beings are their own unhappiness
It is about quality of life. And a prerequisite for afterlife.
So I have to wait till I am 70 to work on my ikigai and till then I have to raise family ?
That sounds horrible
Stay active
And eat right.

Will be my friend??? I'm 22
Breathing into the mic at times. Just giving my feedback.
Az a low income senior, there is no Quality of Life .
I moved to Europe, so much cheaper than 🇦🇺

High-quality content here! If you find it valuable, there’s a comparable book you'll want to read. "Dominating Your Clock: Strategies for Professional and Personal Success" by Anthony Rivers
I do not like the phrase „successful aging“. It does not make any sense in my humble opinion. What is then „unsuccessful aging“? Not aging at all?
This applied to the ppl who have access to medical and dental care. The dif between the ppl who have med and dental health and a doctor to talk about benefits of good diet etc
Overweight ppl need to be told how unhealthy that is. Smokers need to be told stop. Parts of country thrive in fatty, fried foods.
Who are you supposed to live woth ehrn you are 80? Maybe good friends close by? Too hard when you're set in your habits.
I think Aubrey De Grey has the right path
I am 28 and terrified of aging/hitting 30
Grow up Alejandro. You should be grateful and celebrating that you're even alive.
Save money, stay active and nurture your relationships.
30 was a hard one for me (I’m going to be 70 soon) …..when I was 30 my life wasn’t what I expected it to be….I was floundering! Had no career, had no love…..I got involved with drugs briefly. But then I started to build my life. I put myself out there in the world….trying/failing….trying/failing…..until the pieces started to fall into place. I was living for my story….getting brave (because I was very shy)…..and by 40 my life was a life!…..but I did hit a hard bump getting there and at 37 I became a christian and life was full and I was happy. Now that, that part of my story is over…..at near 70 I’m looking at these videos for advice from the very old (because I’m just elderly 😂). I pray my health continues to be good so I can “travel” on UA-cam to places all over the world! It beats sitting on a plane for hours!
well said, great speaker, but respectfully your hair covering one eye was very distracting. I see this with many great female speakers- please pin it back or something- just some helpful feedback.
Could be worse. Some women keep fussing with their hair.
Better healthcare ? I dont think so. Its a business. Health service is based on capitalism. Its inhumane.
my experience is that as an old man, i have wonderful dr's here in winston salem nc...sometimes cities have terrible drs...for example, as much as I love the mountains...asheville and hendersonville..... (very few good quality drs from what I see) But it is not all a simple answer... love it here.

🇺🇸 Is sick 🤮
She hasn't aged well though
She looks her age. Old lady. Not in the best shape either
Not sure men and women are looking for this outcome
I don't know how old she is but there's nothing wrong with looking one's age, she's not obese and if she's healthy that's the main thing. Being thin past middle age is hard and it's not realistic to expect the same body as in one's 20's. She looks fine.
Who cares what she looks!!! She's out there trying to make a difference. Love for humanity doesn't have a body type
