    I might have to stop watching your channel, because you make me miss New Mexico 😁. I miss those huge open beautiful skies. Whenever I get homesick I remind myself of the relentless wind and dust storms especially in the spring and that helps a little 🤣. You are so good and relaxing with a touch of humor. Thank you for making these videos🌄👍

      Yeah, NM in the spring can be hard to handle. I've been all over the world, and this is one of the windiest places ever, especially in the spring. Today it's actually so bad I don't dare go outside, 45mph Sustained and gusts over 65 mph...

    That lens looks awesome. I wish those RF lenses weren't so expensive. I have been considering upgrading my current Canon to the RP, R or R6. I think I am going with the R6. I will be using an adapter to use my EOS lenses. Thanks for sharing the video. Nyall

    I always have the same issue as soon as I set up my timelapse haha. As soon as I start, there's always another angle I wish I could capture at the same time! My favorite lens I own is my ef 70-200mm f/4L IS ii. Would you say the main advantage with the RF 70-200 f/4 is just the weight difference? I'm so excited for your rf 100-500 and samyang rf 14mm vids!! Once again, keep up the amazing content, I always look forward to watching your videos!

    I actually have the Tamron lense you mentioned on my R6 Mii with the adaptor. Mostly kids sports shooting or landscapes. Novice. Im torn between 24 105 F4 or 70 200 R4. Is your new lense the cats meow. Lol

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  Рік тому

      Thanks man, I appreciate it! Yeah, it's been a while since this video came out, and I've been using the 70-200 a lot over the past couple years now. I think it's hands down one of the best tele lenses Canon has ever made. The IQ, size, and weight together just make it incredible, and I love taking it with me for any occasion. Well, actually my wife uses it way more than I do because it's kind of hers and she gets first dibs with it when we're out. I usually use my 100-500, but if she's not around and I need to travel light then this is definitely in my bag. I had the old ef 24-105 for a long time and it was great. I love that focal length, but I don't have the RF version. I got the RF 24-70 instead, but again, my wife uses that one way more than I do. I'd love to have the RF 24-105 to keep in my bag for a walkaround lens. I couldn't tell you which one to get though, as they both are great but serve different purposes. It would just depend on what focal lengths you want more. If you don't have any wider RF lenses, then I'd probably say grab the 24-105, but if you don't shoot wide very much, then 70-200 is incredible and you can pick up another cheap rf wide lens at any time. Choices choices...

    Could you please suggest an entry-level camera body and lense for a novice to start out with for time lapse and landscape photography? I have a budget of around $2500. • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  3 роки тому

      @@BrentHall thanks for your help. What lense would you suggest for shooting the moon with the RP camera body?

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  3 роки тому

      That's a tough question. For just the moon (and/or just wildlife) I'd get the rf 800 or 600 f11. Those are pretty niche lenses though. For everything else, I'd go with the rf 24-105 f4L as the perfect all around landscape, timelapse, and walk around lens.

    Hey Brent, love your videos. I have a question for you. I’m unloading some ef lenses and will have the funds to buy a new rf lens. I’m torn between the 24-105f4 and the 70-200 f4. I live in Japan and want to be light with my kit. I have the R6 and want a lens that will do some city stuff but landscapes when I get out in the country. Which one would you go for? My hope for the future is a tamron or sigma rf 24-70 f2.8. Any thoughts from your experiences on the 70-200 f4 would be much appreciated. Thanks for the videos, cheers!

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  2 роки тому

      Well it sounds like based on your needs (if you're only wanting one lens to start), the 24-105 would be a solid option for you. It's a great focal length. I don't have the RF version, but I know it's a pretty decent performer. You'd just be lacking in the long end. Personally, I love my 70-200, and longer lenses in general, but that's just me. You could also consider getting the 70-200 and maybe adding something like the 16mm f/2.8 or the 35mm f/1.8. I have both and they're really great options for the price, and I always throw them in the bag when I take a long lens out because they're both so small and light. Also, I personally wouldn't count on any 3rd party af lenses like a 24-70 for the RF mount any time soon. Canon seems to really not want that to happen.

  • @scotthunter4
    @scotthunter4 9 місяців тому

    Is the IQ on this lens better than the 24-105? I was disappointed with that lens.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  9 місяців тому +1

      I've never tried the RF 24-105. All I can say is subjectively, I'm extremely happy with RF 70-200. It's definitely sharp enough for my needs.

  • @andrewrckt01

    Great video. Been looking at this lens. In terms of the set up, would the grad ND be an option here? I have been experimenting with mine but thought that sunsets are ideal for them!

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! You certainly can use nd grads for sunset like this. I don't though, because I just bracket and do it in post, or in this case, I do the timelapse, then blend the images in post for the long exposure in the sky, then I shoot another image after the timelapse, exposing for the foreground and blend that into the long exposure blend for the final result. It's a lot more work and most people probably don't like to do it that way, but doing it this way maximizes how many different things I come away with, especially since I sell timelapses as stock footage. I have a few videos on how to do the long exposures from timelapses too.

  • @gabrieltorres2975
    @gabrieltorres2975 3 роки тому

    You make awesome videos, pics are beautiful. Why no filters?

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  3 роки тому +1

      Because I'd rather get a timelapse and blend the long exposure from that. since I sell a lot of timelapses, it's better for me to do that then just getting one long exposure. Plus I don't like dealing with hot pixels. Basically it's just my personally preference, and I don't mind spending the extra time in post creating a long exposure.

    Hey couple of quick questions. My wife has given me permission to go on an adventure once I get a new camera and I've been to Taos, NM before but where else would you suggest in NM with tall trees? Second what are your thoughts on buying refurbished cameras? I'm wanting to buy the Canon rebel T7i but the only ones on their site is refurbished and that kind of makes me nervous.

    • @BrentHall
      @BrentHall  3 роки тому

      Oooh, that's awesome! Taos is an epic place to visit! The Taos Gorge and the river areas all around Pilar to Taos are incredible. Tall trees in northern NM are pretty much everywhere, lol. Angel Fire is pretty epic for that, as is Valles Caldera. The Santa Fe national forest has some amazing tall pines and aspen hiking trails, and some that even go up past the tree line to ~12000 ft. As for buying refurbished, I've never done it with cameras. I've bought plenty of used camera gear though. I would say to just check if Canon has the same or similar warranties with their refurb stuff, which I would assume they should.

I went back to your video on R6 changes for focusing birds etc....I followed your guideline but I also set up my dof preview button to scroll through a few chices like single point etc...when eye focus fails me. I tried shooting an osprey on some branches and could not get the eye focus to work right. I had to go to single point. Then the bird flew off with a fish and missed the photo op since the R6 would not focus on it in the air. I was so upset :) You were right. I miss more photo ops with the R6 than I did with my 7D2.

      That's a tough choice. There's a huge price difference for sure.
