I continue to catch nice pike with under-spin jigs at choke-points around SE WI, but I am switching my focus to carp fishing. I miss finding monsters in the backyard.
That spot right next to the wall you were fishing i caught a bunch of carp there once using Pizza Pit crust there once when Pizza Pit was just on East Washington where a Chinese restaurant is located now. Its not a cheapo place to eat and they dont fill your plate full of onions either.
If you go out a few hours early and spread a bunch of corn out and come back after dark there will be plenty of carp put in shallower water. They come in shallow after dark when boats stop going a million mph. I use anise or anise flavored liquid on the corn i cast out. You can get anise at a local grocery store or go to a bait shop and ask for some anise flavored liquid. They had some at D&S a few years ago. Dont bother using the pre-made carp bait from wally world. That stuff sucks If you can maybe throw a few cans of corn out each day in the same spot for a few days in a row. Just dont let anyone see you do it or you might just have someone fishing in your spot. I fish a different spot on Monona every time. I used to bring along my rod rack and stick it in the rocks i might have to pick a differnet spot where i can stick it into the ground. There is one guy you will see on Lake Link who fishes european style that catches easily over a hundred pounds every time he goes out carp fishing. Btw i wouldnt bother fishing for catfish in Monona...i have heard of one person catching one in the lake in over twenty years...i'm sure there are a few in there but i dont use cutbait there. Also I talked to a DNR guy a few years ago and he said its o.k. to catch a bluegill on Monona and use it for cutbait on Mendota since they are connected. I wouldnt use live bait though.
Hahaha weird boat festival! They do that every Sunday and “practice” a few times a week too, kinda sucks for us fishing.
