I always remind myself that today is the first day of the rest of my life. There's no guarantee that tomorrow will come. Make the most of every day and every moment ( it could be your last)and even if your girlfriend/wife is half your age, she's not guaranteed a tomorrow either, so thinking that she's going to be your caretaker might not happen. And if you are married, then her family is your family, and yours is hers.
Good worthy release feature, once again, sir Mike. Thanks for passing through such relevant thoughtful eyes-openers on us viewers. Well done on continuency.
@mikesphilippineretirement highly appreciative thanks for being around there Mike. You run a quite informative no-nonsense channel. And that is a worthy thing nowadays.
Great video, Mike! I have a good Filipina from a good family and I help them all. they treat me like one of their own. You are absolutely right you reap what you sow in the Philippines. I am confident that my Filipino family will do right by me if I ever need them. However, you have also convinced me to not be so cold toward ex-pats when I’m in the Philippines. I usually turn my head and walk the other way as soon as I see them coming. But you make a good point when you say we all get there one day if we live long enough, we will all need someone. So I’ll do better and be more friendly towards expats in the future.💯👊🏾🇵🇭
The one thing that helps a person live longer is having a good social and family network. You need one or the other because you can not do everything for yourself up until you die, unless if you get hit by a car, truck, or bus. Other than that, it is a slow to medium walk down hill that you spent a lifetime climbing.
Wise words. It would be a tragic way to spend the final years of life if you weren’t a friend to others. Be happy in later years. You are retired, enjoying a new country, maybe a new love, and are closer to meeting your Lord. Not bad at all if you are a believer.
Yes, that’s true. My mother is 87 and in readonably good health. My father is 78 and in hospice care. My mother is his main caregiver now. Luckily, she is getting some help.
Great video Mike, interesting topic. This is happening in the the US too and it's very common now in other countries. For some reason many men spend their final years isolated and alone then eventually just pass away via unattended d3ath. Sad.
Hey Mike! Just wanted to say that i seem to get something out of your videos. 😊 Thanks for helping to correct our very poor thinking 🤔 and Bad habits! You are truly a good man!
Mental illness is not uncommon for older folks and nothing to be ashamed of. With age dementia, depression and or anxiety may slowly manifest itself. Self diagnosing is difficult especially if alcohol is involved. Having true friends and family is so important. Also giving to others and helping others.
Mike if something happens to your wife and your in the latter stages of life get a house keeper to move in . If you’re not interested in her family and never had been that’s ok for the small cost of a maid it would be definitely worth it . Thanks for the video. Cheers 🍻
Another great video Mike. These types of videos make you think about where you are in life, and where you want to go. I’m 14 months from retirement, and plan to move to the Philippines after I’m done working. I hope and pray I find the right girl. And I’ll be honest, I prefer it if she’s a single mom, with a child 3 or 4 years old, maybe up to 8 to 10 years old. I’d be happy if she’s from a big family (for me that’s 3 or 4 siblings), because that will make the holidays more enjoyable…I’ll still come back to the states to see my kids, but they are in the beginnings of their own careers and families, so their plates are pretty full…The last thing I would want is to be in my 80’s, and have burnt all my bridges behind me…that to me is a scary thought. Salamat
@ …the thought of spending the final years of your life alone. No family, no friends…I don’t lay awake at night worrying about it, but in my opinion it’s scary, and sad…
Well said mike. And such an important topic. People investing in people.. That's the deal with family. Especially if you live in the philippines. You take care of her and her family and they take care of you.
It never hurts to have good, reliable relationships/friendship in this world. It goes a long way indeed. Great advice Mike. You can’t take resources to the grave. Be 😊
Sad, but everybody is born alone and dies alone. The reality is that our thoughts are ours alone during or life, we are always alone with our thoughts!
Mike it's these wise words that truly make me want to sit down and talk with you and try to gain some of that Knowledge and experience. While i also thought one has to be a friend to have a friend; as making that consistent effort in our busy lives takes effort. While James may also seem like he died alone he did it on his terms and can serve as a cautionary tale to those of us who don't wish to end up that way. But at same time life doesn't always go the way we planned; so we just have to Adjust and Adapt and accept whatever God has planned for us.
One the tragic but remediable issues with dementia is that a good diet can heal or mitigate it, but as these ppl get older, they tend to have poorer diets either because of finances or ianbility to cook and buy/grow good healthy organic food. So, it's a vicious cycle, but avoidable with help from others.
While diet and exercise helps with everything, there is no scientific evidence that dementia can be cured or mitigated with diet alone. About 13% of all Americans over the age of 75 have dementia. This includes vegans and carnivores, couch potatoes and athletes, janitors and astrophysicists, and everything in between. This has been studied in depth.
Very informative video Mike. My wife and I are buying property in the Philippines and there are ways to protect yourself even if she dies first. See a lawyer and have her sign an agreement that you have exclusive rights to live on the property, alone if you want, until you relinquish your right to do so. With or without a will, her family will inherit at least 50% of the property if she precedes you in death.
Your truly an amazing life coach mike you share your awesome ambassador life coach to others. Especially the expats folks who leaves in other parts of the world. Great advice mike.❤ great videos.
He will just keep suffering due to all his actions. Even with 50k pesos that’s still not enough for living in UK. Not enough to rent a room he will end up on the streets begging and when winter comes will die from the cold. That is his future because he kept to himself without any social network.
Thanks for yet another great video Mike! I fully agree to the importance of a solid and good relation to your wife's/girlfriends family! In addition to that I think I have read or heard that it's possible to arrange ownership so that the wife owns the property (land) and you own the house and have a long lease for the property. 25 (or even 25+25?) years lease. And that the lease will be valid even if the wife passes. In addition to the good relationship you then have a legal right to stay on the property for the period of the lease. It would then serve as a double protection together with a good relation. I might be right or wrong...
this story sounds like the usa in reality it doesnt matter what country you die in its the same old story if a person has no common sense at 27 or 87 they never will
The man in this story is a victim of his own success. Nobody is going to want to help an old grouch that hates everyone. That's true for anywhere in the world indeed. Some people just have a bad attitude for life.
I'm looking to move there in 6 years. Retiring early at 62. As of right now, I'm not looking to get remarried or have a girlfriend. I'd have no problem making g friends with the people living next door or anything like that. But that being said I am a simple man I really only have 2, maybe 3 real friends, and they both live in different states. So I'll go see 1 one year and the other the next. I mostly just work and come home. So when I retire there I'd like to go to the beach , maybe try my luck at some fishing . Do some snorkeling and may learn to scuba dive. Get me a bbq and do some grilling. And relax. If I find a nice lady, then we will just have to see.
Mike, it's me. You want to leave Duma Drama Llama with me? Let's wrap up this UA-cam stuff and skedaddle. What do you say? Imagine being elderly and listening to your channel alone. Now that is a thought!
Hi Mike, this was a very important video. I am your age and I know that I will need help but since I have no intention to marry , I know that I wont be able to expect help over there. This is #1 reason why I will never retire abroad. Traveling - yes, but never go there to die alone.

The money to purchase the house came from that expat. He and his wife consciously left the house to the son upon passing. It's that ungrateful son who should be vilified for elder abuse.

But, that doesn't excuse us from abandoning our parents when they age. If he can't take care of him, he could easily hire a live-in maid to do it. why is it always considered sad when someone dies alone? maybe its best for many
I couldn't agree more. Can't think of anything worse than people fussing around you and getting upset.
