Johann has cast doubt on a book that does indeed contain many facts, even if some of the information isn't 100% factually checked. My advice is that he reads the book and only then delivers a contribution.= about the book.
His comments were more on the Fivaz report, which he has studied in detail. De Ruyter's book is based on the "findings" of the Fivaz report. I listened to another, much longer, interview with Johan. He actually attended a session with Fizaz and company where they presented their findings and he has a meeting with De Ruyter. So I think he has more than enough info to make a judgement call. His reaction was that most of it is hearsay and not a single claim was properly investigated. He further argued that the info in the report may not be incorrect - although there are parts which he just slams as rubbish claims - but said that his recommendation to De Ruyter was that these claims need to be investigated properly before he went public with it. Something De Ruyter ignored and went public with unsubstantiated uninvestigated rumours, rather than facts.

Rationalise it as you will, living in a dangerous and violent country causes severe neurological damage on a daily basis. Please, if you have young children, consider investing in their brain health and future, offshore. Just because you can’t see the damage in the brain doesn’t mean it’s not there. This heightened sense of threat avoidance requires higher levels of subconscious brain activity and increases the need for a neurotransmitter that also become toxic in too high levels. A communist with a ‘formidable intellect’? Nah…. Gordhan was good at sars because it aligns with his statist big government tax them to the grave mentality … however- he was zumas finance minister lets never forget- and as head of the SOEs? Has there ever been anyone more lamentable? I say no
Agreed. Dawie Roodt's presentation not so long ago pointed out how Pravin's finance minister appointment was the beginning of the debt to GDP incline after the good decline in Mbeki's years. Pravin fooled a lot of people.
Maybe if they start voting for better people all of us can have the privelege of good health care. They bring their suffering upon themsleves then wants to blame better off people for their volley.
I can concur there with Johan's comment about Pravin Gordhan when he was Commissioner. I also worked at SARS at the same time as Johan did but n a different department. Pravin is very strict , hard and straight and I liked it - you knew exactly where you stood with him. He expected the best and for you to go the extra mile. Many weekends during budget times we worked when Pravin wanted results and budgets and when he said on a Friday we work on Saturday, you don't argue - but when the job was done Pravin would also give you the credit and recognition. He was an excellent and good Commissioner, great leader and and a no-nonsense man - he shouldn't have left SARS but I guess his bosses decided otherwise
After being a victim of a crime, I'm sure he is very emotional, very stressed and sensitive and suffering ptsd. The anger comes after this stage of shock and sensitivity.
Extreme skepticism is when a bus hits you full face and you go "auw its nothing".That would be extreme skepticism about the role of matter, until a bus hits you.
South Africans are very shortsighted and tend to forget the efforts made by Gordhan during the Zuma years. Imho his legacy is being tarnished by remaining in politics. He should have resigned 2 years ago as clearly his hands are tied by the ANCs infighting. But However having listened to this podcast I can understand why he wants to remain...just a pity though, that not even he can make a difference as far as Eskom is concerned.
Johan i am so so sorry. We should all be able to go cycling without fear. Tensions are so high at the moment. Maybe Tension has been high for the last 15 years as unemployment has risen and fear has risen and resentment has grown for the haves and have nots. Its just so frustrating that things have not got better and the hopelessness drives fear and fear i believe drives hate. But how do we reduce the fear of the future of South Africa?
As an pensioner white lady l have used the state hospitals several times. IMO there is nothing wrong with the state hospital care especially the emergency and out patient care. My only criticism is the waiting time and one must look past the derelict decor. One must direct anger against the local authorities and central and provincial government for lack of infrastructure maintenance
Pointless interview if the interviewed did not read the book. Why then mention the book at all. If the topic was PG's character then why even mention the book? Click baiting in my opinion. And shame, the poor assailants, feel sorry for them. They have been harmed hence the harm they inflict on their victims is justified. Poor souls 🤬🤬🤬
The fact is and correct me if I am wrong, nobody are accused or go to jail for the corruption at ESKOM. This is sick. I see it like this: if there is a high flyer at the ANC involved in the corruption then it is covered up. We will never know. Ek is gatvol vir ESKOM se nonsense.
'I became acutely aware of my privilege' and 'I consider the attackers as victims'. I think Johann is suffering from some sort of Stockholm syndrome. Or some extreme form of progressivism where even being killed by perceived disadvantaged groups seems justifiable. I have sympathy for Johann's ordeal, but unfortunately attitudes like this are not met with reciprocity in Africa - it is exploited. Africa understands only projections of brute strength as deterrents to violence, unfortunately.
Pravin was under huge pressure from the RET by the time de Ruyter met him he had been thoroughly battered by them. He was probably very different before that
Well spoken Johan. As far as the content of the book, all is not lost. Because what has a happened is documented history. de Ruyter being an attorney surely knows his way (and so the advisors) around. Rubbishing the investigator firm for what is in the eye of the public can only be warrented if that is the only hand that there is to show? If the matter goes the course to court, then everything will be under oath.
JvL you should listen to Queen's "Bicycle". The days of riding your bike safely in RSA is relic of the past. Rather take a walk with your Smith and Wesson by your side.
His body language demonstrates that he is still protecting himself. His affect is very flat. He isn’t really interested in the book because it might be deemed as a de Ruyter apologist. If people envisage he is it may put him in danger. Nothing is forthcoming so don’t waste time waiting for the sky to fall.
Yes his anger will come as to what happened to him. Many stages of grief he will go through still. Its all too fresh he should have declined the interview.

I am so tired of people feeling bad for their privilege! Privilege is earned period, everyone that has privilege, either them or their fore farthers or ancestors hade to sacrifice, do things they did not want to do, suffer extensively daily to earn the said privilege
It's not privilage but all SA's are entitled to good service delivery not matter the skin colour, back ground or standing in soceity! We have become complaceint, distracted and not put the anc led government on the spot, held them accountable!
Van Loggerenberg's comments about Pravin... is it possible that he has this management style so that he is strongly positioned within the ANC ? I think it is.
Is he strongly positioned? He is not well liked by the ANC .. I think he did not even make the top half of the NEC voting in December. I often ask why is he still in politics.. Surely he doesn't need the money and consider his age. .. Shouldn't he spend his golden years with his family? In the past 2 years at least his legacy is being tarnished, he is vilified by the EFF, a significant majority of South Africans blame him for Eskoms woes.. So why remain in politics? Is it not possible that he stays cos he is a trusted ally of Cyril and Cyril cannot afford to lose him? Pravin should place his family before politics and should have resigned at least 2 years ago and thereby protected his legacy.
Kaballah here without doubt. Hmmm, when the veil is lifted some day, we’ll be shocked at how many traitors SA actually has. All for greed. De Ruyter did the right thing. Experience in businesses last decades share the same corrupt pattern as they’ve done to DeR.
Yip - this man sure shows fellow-feeling in spades... Mans inhumanity to his fellow man, woman and child, is so sad... Hope Johann recovers and regains peace of mind somehow... Shocking experience to have endured...
Violence... well, NPCs have no feelings or soul, they have no heart and no conscience whatsoever. They.are.not.human! Please dont pitty the heartless, they won't think twice to kill you. Stop feeling sorry for evil!
This story of JvL's response to his incident is a touching testament to what I have long believed. The troubles we face will not and cannot be resolved while we live in such an unequal society. Everything we do in our society must be informed by a desperate desire to build, empower and uplift everyone, especially those who have little hope and fewer resources.

I can tell you what "occurred in their lives" and what made them violent but I think I would rather keep it to myself. Unfortunately, this way of thinking is why we as white South Africans are biting the dust, we are what they called "Jannie Jammergatte" in afrikaans.
Freedom is what occurred in their lives. Happened in 1994. Freedom yo go around violating anyone and everyone
Pravin = anc uselessness
Don't really agree with this guy. I'm reading the book now, will hopefully gain more insights.
Jumped by some ‘violent bad people’ you say? Were they Japanese? Scandinavian? Caucasian? Please do be more specific as this is quite peculiar In the rainbow nation
Yes but we pay for every thing. My plan for medical cost a lot. I don't get nothing for free.
Breeding is the cause
It was a warning to Johan
This one did not read the book
I wish i would be calm like that after such incident.
After being a victim of a crime, I'm sure he is very emotional, very stressed and sensitive and suffering ptsd. The anger comes after this stage of shock and sensitivity.
Pravin flopped. If he was a strategic thinker ? Least he be judged by his actions.
Thinking 200 years ahead. OMW! Wonder if he was thinking of energy flowing out of the sky into the grid
He wants to save ANC at all costs, even if the country is sacrificed. I lost my respect for PG because clearly the ANC is more important to him.
I wish there were more people like Johan in this world we live in. 💐
Zuma is vidicted and as you enjoy the load shedding winter gift from your clean and righteous men, Pravin and Ramaphosa
@@jameskillu9171 zuma, biggest snake in africa... eish.
There's something to this man. Deep. Philosophical. A decent, level headed man. Quite unique in this country. Well done.
Wishing you well Johan…🙏🙏🙏
Dis duidelik dat johann aan Stockholm sydrome ly. Kyk ook na die manier wat hy sit terwyl hy praat.

Mr van !oggenberg I am very sorry to hear of what happened to you!
Not reading the book but you have something to say, this was a badly timed interview, this chap was traumatised.
I bet this guy was not attacked at all. That's a make up job to give him an opportunity to say what he did.
What a senseless interview… the man admits that he hasn’t read André’s book?
This man is confused and does not have any insight in the problems of this country.
There is no excuse for these attacks
His own subjective experiences of Minister Jordan has subjective value. That is where it ends for me though.
I think they scared JvL with that attack
I think this poor man suffers from Stockholm syndrome.
Yes his anger will come as to what happened to him. Many stages of grief he will go through still. Its all too fresh he should have declined the interview.
Rather "honey trap" syndrome!
Our sincerest thoughts are with you 🙏🏻 thank you for sharing your reflection of such a horrible experience. I feel your ❤️ heart and your truth. Thank you 🙏🏻
I really enjoyed listening to this. He is very forgiving. I'm not convinced about Gordhan though - I have believed in him for too long.
You have a good heart i am very proud of you God must pray for the country
Thank you for an informative, insightful discussion.
Your guest was such a disappointment, he knew what the subject of conversation was going to be all about. All he could talk about was his attack. He should be ashamed of himself totally unprepared. Felt for you Alex, you always have such good guests and they know what the talk subject will be. Really quite shocking from this guy
Has his incident somrthing to do with his answers now????
Oh man alive, all the experts suddenly coming alive!!!!
Kaballah here without doubt. Hmmm, when the veil is lifted some day, we’ll be shocked at how many traitors SA actually has. All for greed. De Ruyter did the right thing. Experience in businesses last decades share the same corrupt pattern as they’ve done to DeR.
No. Just no. Having a guest on that hasn't read the book you want to talk about?? Don't be a clownshow
My hat off to you Johann...
This is a political hack...finish&klaar!
Why the hell would you give him anybairtime
André’s book is subjective and a narrative of his experience of his role. It must be read from this perspective. It’s still worth a read.
Alec was disappointed, he expected Johan to kick Gordhan and sing praises to Andre. Good moral standing Johan.
I like this guy
Time will tell. He’s absolutely right, wait and see…
Thumbs down on this interview. Sounds more like gossiping to me.
The presenter must be very disappointed with the response from Johan on the book an Pravin
"build, empower and uplift everyone, especially those who have little hope and fewer resources" I would like to know from you who should do it and with money coming from where?
Well said.
