this is the best demo I've ever heard by any artist. Martin was told to stop producting such polished demos because it left little leeway to develop the song in the studio. I easily like this version as much as the final album cut, quite incredible 🤩 Martin is utterly exceptional
I wish this version was on Spotify. Martin has such an incredible vision. The way all melodies work off each other is brilliant, especially once the chorus starts.
So incredibly well-formed; i absolutely was not anticipating that. Sure Alan did an incredible job transforming this into what became the final release but has to be accepted that without such a strong framework on which to build the song would have been very different - and not in a good way.
@@abbyboyone Alan adds to it but so does Martin. Even Alan said that Martin was still very much in control and as involved with the songs during recording.
Lots of demos of the genius Martin Gore kills the 'Alan Wilder myth'. Lyrics, melodies, chords, synth lines, everything is there. Martin Gore is only one.
@@anibalvillacordova6707 No, my friend. not just alan, besides Mr. Gore there are plenty of producers and sound engineers that worked with dM during the years. the alan wilders myth is 100% real.
@abrokenframe1 Finally someone speaks the truth. Wilder was good at fleshing out the sounds and adding to the production value. He was valuable. But writing the songs is a totally different animal. There is no way you can compare what Martin does and what Alan did. George Martin was a valuable sounding board to the Beatles. He was classically trained, so he could suggest things and help them realize their ideas, but he couldn't write "I Am the Walrus"! That takes genius. Alan is a talented musician. Martin is a genius.
I can not believe I'm just now hearing this This is a serious question so please no smart butts. Did he program the drums and write the synths and lyrics ? If so, he could be a one man band.. Outstanding ..
Yes. All of it. Martin has always preferred to write alone and at home. They weren't a "jam band". Even the lyrics have notations of how he wants Dave to sing them. I can't figure them out but I guess it's a system they all understand. He had to be told by the band to stop making demos that were too polished because there was little the rest of the guys could add.
Esta versión es preciosa. No hay arreglador o productor o arquitecto de sonido que la modifique.Sólo pueden enaltecerla.La base ya está compuesta.Mi humilde y porfiada opinión. Martin ♥🌹
Апрель 2024. Если Мартин приносил в студию такие наброски своих песен, то он гений. Интересно слушать "стержень" произведения, без пышной аранжировки Алана. Спасибо.
The basic beat & synths on this are cracking me up. The bones & soul of the song are here, but it is truly impressive where it ends up! Fascinating to hear, though!!! 🖤
Compared to say ETS which is just a harmonium and Martins vocal, this is actually quite a completed demo which is very unusual for them in this period. They used to develop the songs fully after getting Martins demo. Great to see that it wasn't all about Alan 😘
I think Original Shake the Disease Song And First Tape Record Martin's Listen Of Brilliant - It's Looks Listening Poems Is Called Shake The Disease or Song_))He's Master Songwritings!!
Difffrent lyric in the second verse. I understand why he made modifications to it. Didn't really sound right. But, I diffentley concur with Krystyna Au. Everything he touches tuns to gold. He has yet to write a song that DM fans would say is horrible. Here's to hoping he never does.
C est la 1ere fois que j entend la demo de " shake the disease" et chanté par Martin Gore 😊😊😊 alors qu au final c est dave gahan qui la chante 😊😊😊 j aime beaucoup cette chanson de DM 🌹🌹🌹
@ M L - He actually seems to be talking about things being difficult because there was so much pressure after the huge success of Violator, not necessarily having to do with his age at the time. He doesn’t mention age at all
Thank you for writing this. Martin gets far too little credit among the Depeche fans, and Alan far too much. And what about the PRODUCERS?? Surely they, since it's their job, helped out too.
If you think SOFAD isn't good then I can't help you. It's their creative peak, though I love current Depeche. If all we had was Ultra on, they'd still be my favorite band.
I'm pretty sure all the people saying "it's all there, the reat is just polishing" haven't seriously produced a bit of music in their life. Thing is, many DM fans have tunnel vision. Most bands develop their demos MORE than what Martin did even in cases like Shake the Disease, and they still acknowledge the essential importance of a good production stage. But for some reason, DM fans expected all Martin demos to be... what, him singing over a couple guitar chords? Or singing a capella? (That was the case wit some early Gahan demos, by the way, but that's ba different story). So when they find out the norm was to make a fully formed song, they are astonished. Something that anyone with a four track recorder, a mic, a drum machine and keyboard could already do in the 80s
I wish I could add input but aside from those two, which seem pretty obvious (I mean those bells, come on), i don't know. Hopefully someone with some actual knowledge will reply

Wow, I didn't know he done all this by himself..
Amazing artist..
Martin's voice is just so smooth and clear. Love hearing him singing his original compositions. It's just heavenly.
I wish this version was on Spotify. Martin has such an incredible vision. The way all melodies work off each other is brilliant, especially once the chorus starts.
Ok but why would this be any different on Spotify?
Play it here or save it 😅
Very good demo, this guy should form a band!
Bruh he is in a band

Alan and Daniel Miller helped turning it to gold.

It's true ⚘

Great song, and great demo. He's simply amazing.

Yeah Alan gets credit for the arrangements but every demo I've ever heard, Martin already had every part.
martin composes the rough draft and alan, like a good editor, pulls it across the finish line

Maestro Wilder provides the trademark sound of DM. Without him like this song, they are just demo mode. An unpolished Diamond.

Some say they hate his song Eternal. I don't understand why. Its beautiful. That song is personal to him. He wrote for his daughters.
That's because the ones which are 'horrible' were never released. Personally I really want to hear some of the stuff he was writing as a teenager.
