I’d go so far as saying - and I may have written about it before - it is useful to deemphasise fumikomi in favour of fumikiri when teaching (at any level). Fumikomi is - like tenouchi - a natural by product of solid technical basics 😊
Excelente el vídeo, José. Mil gracias.
Saludos!
Hi José, great video as always. I will try this out because I am struggling with fumikomi, especially when I am already holding the shinai. Can you please do a video on how to improve timing the strike with fumikomi? Thank you.
I really appreciate the teaching. I only have one suggestion. Could you please slow down yoir B roll examples so that when watching your explaination, we have more time to view the proper form?
Could you provide more details about the variations in fumikiri and fumikomi techniques for small and long steps? I've noticed that Japanese kenshi often don't fully extend their leg during shorter steps. I'm curious about your perspective on how these differences feel. Thanks!
Oh this is definately something I need to make a video about, but what do you mean by " the don't fully extend their leg" do you mean during Kamae? maybe send me a video of what you mean to make sure we are on the same page! Thank you for watchiing!

My understanding is that, unlike in larger steps in the later video, the foot isn't pushed out as much. Is the fumikiri in this case performed mainly through the thigh and glute muscles, with minimal foot involvement? Thanks for shedding light on these points!

100% agree I think often Fumikiri is ignored in favored of fumikomi and we tend to develop a much heavier footwork from that.
This gives me an idea of what to practice for better understanding what the movement is supposed to feel like, thank you!
Thank you, I'm glad you find this helpful Let me know if you have any further questions.
It's amazing how well you articulated fumikomi and fumikiri. I pick up points about kendo footwork that I can work on. Thank you.
I'm glad it helped thank you for letting me know!!! If I can help let me know
