I grew up in the Montgomery County Wheaton, Md area during the 80s Farrell's Ice Cream Parlor had a chain their since the 1970's Farrell's was always the chosen place for our birthday celebrations
There was a Farrell's ice cream parlor (or rather, stand) inside the Great America amusement park (maybe when they were both owned by Marriott). There were no bells or whistles but they offered three flavors of ice cream: chocolate, vanilla, and Great America.
Just a note that those "straw" hats were a very thick Styrofoam! One of my best friends in grade school had a birthday in one and got a sherbet Zoo Party. We loved the little colorful plastic animals that were in it, but our little nine year old selves got a kick out of the little mermaids because they didn't have tops on! Hahaha!
Ate a lot of ice cream at the Whittier location as a teenager, usually in a pig trough. The Neff Marching Band partied here after football games and other occasions. Had a few birthday sundaes, too. I'm not sure that they fit in today's society. They were best suited to the 60s and 70s. That's too bad.
Lived in Whittier in the late 70’s and early 80’s me and my friends would ride our bikes or the Whittier transit to Ferrells. Sometimes we would take the bike trail and ride to Golf N Stuff in Norwalk then ride to Stonewood mall in Downey to their Farrells. Had my bday parties at the one in Downey
Mid 70s ... Little Rock, Arkansas ... we went to Farrells for my brother's birthday ... he got the 'pig trough' sundae. I think if you ate it all it was free ... sad ending though ... he got the flu that night and threw up everywhere lol
I had MANY zoo party birthdays in the 70’s as a kid at Ferrells in Downey, CA at Stonewood mall. Moved to Riverside county in the 80’s and there was a location at Tyler Mall then. It closed down in the 90’s I believe and then we were at the newer Riverside location last in 2014 for my granddaughters 7th birthday. What was different about the newer location was the candy store was just a very small section by the door. When I was a kid the candy store was its own full area stocked with a lot of candy. I talked about it with my kids and grandkids and then when we got to the new location it was disappointing. I wanted them to experience the joy I did as a child in the 70’s. Menu was pretty similar but had some new additions which would be expected. Was sad to see it go
I remember going to Farrell's when I was a little kid. There was a location in Montclair, CA in in the 80's, it was thd closest one to Rancho Cucamonga. I think in the in 90's, it closed down. I remember the Rancho Cucamonga location opening in 2011 but I never went to it. It shut down a few years later.
In 2015 I was shocked when a quick visit to the Farrell’s website homepage revealed the primary image on their homepage was me at the Fremont location in 1978! Age 6 years old. Attending my best friend’s birthday party. Coincidentally if you ever saw the episode of Power Rangers Wild Force that was shot at the Santa Clarita location in 2002, I was the On Set Dresser for that episode and location. (deep sigh) Here’s to all the aid raid alarms and clown sundaes

I used to live by the one in Buena Park, it still sits abandoned today. 🪦
I think Dad took us to the first Farrell's in the DC suburbs at Marlow Heights Mall.
Great memories.

Fun kind of restaurant while still existed. Food meal menu, too. Neat that they had the cashier section formed as a candy store.

How times have you been to the California Science center 🤔🧬🌐🧲
Over a dozen times and I was there about a month ago.
I first discovered Farrell's in Hawaii.
