Ja the proteas are nice and all that but seeing the little Yorkie having a lekker time rolling around and exploring has made my day 😄
We recently bought a little farm near Melbourne, Australia, and we can’t wait to go bos planting lovely proteas. We might even consider growing them on a commercial basis.
Cheers Tanya 👍
you make such wonderful videos, thank you so much, God Bless you and yours. USA/Georgia
Many thanks, Linda! Bless you too x
What a delight to have you back!!! I always looked forward to your video’s.
Fantastic video, I’m trying to grow some in Perth, Western Australia.
I enjoyed your protea show
Thank you for your help. I feel confident in planting my Proteas Pincushion. I live in Southern California and I believe it should work here.
Thanks,
Stephanie Johnson
Tanya hello , do you hand water or do you have some type of irrigation system on your property ? Your landscape and views are breathtaking ❤️❤️😊

Hi, just wondering if you could share the ingredients of your protea potting mix?

Hi Tanya, thank you for the protea video, will they grow here in Gauteng where we get frost in winter?
I’ve seen some that have been successfully grown in JHB. I myself, am trying here in Benoni. So far, so good.
For Leucadendrons and protea plants, in areas where soil is very Alkaline, how do i make it more acidity? Can i add tea leafs black or green, or coffee granules to soil ? Bone meal is a no no, but how about blood powder ? Here soil very volcanic and dry red clay type. 2 miles from coast , sand everywhere and always windy. Would Leucadendron safari sunset be easy to grow ? And protea pink ice or king ? I understand the pin cushion is most differcult? Biggest problem is getting soil correct , and because near coast, probably lots of salt in air etc. Love this plant, just want easy advice on how to make soil in hole less Alkaline
Hi Tanya, can a mature protea be transplanted elsewhere. We have one that has fallen over.
Can they survive in Indian Subtropical climate where temperature in winters doesn't go below 5°C and summers can go as high as 42°C?
In Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, the is very volcanic, red clay sandy soil...very Alkaline, salt, sub tropical very windy.. how should i prepare the hole? Should i use coffee grounds to make soil.more acidity? Is fish blood a bone meal good, to help roots
Where can I buy them? Are the roots invasive? I want to plant it close to a wall
Hi I took seeds from a tree in Knysna. Will the seeds grow?
If you live in a area where you can not buy fertilizer, can we make our own?
What's the spacing between each plant?
Where can I find the protea planting mix?
can someone tell me how to propagate protea?
Hi There, one of the ways to propagate from another healthy plant is with softwood cuttings. Check out our free Survival guide for tips: www.thegardener.co.za/survival-guide/ 😀
can i plant it indoor
Hi Nelson, pincushions require full sun so I would suggest planting them outdoors and placing the cut flowers in a vase indoors
@@TanyaVisserTheGardener ,thanks
in JHB do you know where i can buy them ,a nursery in Rusternburg told be its a protected national flower that one needs a liecence for it,how true is this.
