- When living on a narrowboat with a car, you have to take it along with you. That means taking it ahead to your next spot or walking back to get it. That's exactly what we have to do today, except the towpath is quite literally a mud bath. After witnessing another beautiful sunset, dad does some jobs on the boat, including changing the air filter in the engine bay. Finally we take a lovely cruise to Hurleston and the end of the Llangollen canal. where were head through a few locks and on to Swanley Marina to get some water and diesel, after we head to our mooring but once we get to a blind bridge we notice the bow of a boat coming through, forcing us to hit the brakes.

Not sure if my original comment made it on! It was if you wish I would come down and help you through the Rochdale Locks and even Huddersfield if you wanted, I will fetch along my trusty windlass. There is strength in numbers on the Rochdale.

There is a breach on the towpath of the Macclesfield canal at the moment so hopefully that will be sorted soon. We are heading that way fingers crossed we make it as really looking forward to the Rochdale canal it looks beautiful. Kind regards Diane xx

Oh dear, as I was watching you struggling through the mud I was thinking, just like me when I walked the Wrenbury stretch back at the end of March 22, and low and behold I see the Dusty Miller!! Lol!!!! I walked the long way back along the road to my car as by the time I got through all the mud the soles were hanging off my boots!!!! 😲 So not only did I squelch all the way back I flapped as well!!!! Oh what fun!! Lol! Smashing vlog! was the rainbow on the 14th of dec?
The rainbow was about that time Jan as we are about 4 weeks behind with the vlogs. I am glad we aren't the only ones that get covered in mud lol 😂😂
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat I took loads of photos of one on that date in Nantwich which as you know is not far away! Lovely one minute then the clouds came in and the next it was raining! Sounds daft to say it but I recognised the way the clouds came in! Lol!
Wow that was a bit of a muddy trek I would have been on my butt within seconds.🤣 It really goes to show how much rain we have had lately lots of widespread flooding and plenty of coastal erosion near me. So great to see you having lots of fun on your adventures. Such great photography highlighting just how beautiful winter can be 😁👍
Winter is a beautiful time on the canals especially when the sun shines and the canals are so quiet this time of year. The muddy towpaths is just something we have to put up with which is fine with us.
Why don’t you just wear wellingtons
Josh has been wearing Wellingtons lately and I have them but they aren't comfortable enough for me to walk this far.

It's so quiet on the canals Will we love the winter. We love it apart from the muddy towpaths lol 😂
Every where's wet ! The solar has been bad compared to last winter. This winter sky is so gray. Lovely watching your travels form my dry home hope to get out along the canals soon but the towpaths are slippery. The Montgomery canals has got good towpaths most of its way but not necessarily where I want to go and look at
That's what we found Colin with the Montgomery canal. Where Josh and I walked the un navigable part the towpath was great for the cyclists and walkers. Hope you and the family are well Colin xx
I remember riding my bike a long that very stretch of canal in the early 90s through mud like that you went through and it took hours to clean my bike up again , I was covered in mud too ! .
That's why we don't usually use our bikes in the winter. It's too muddy and slippery on a bike without cleaning it afterwards 😮
You need barn boots.
Josh has Wellington boots he is using now 😊
You live full time on the canals but not a pair of Welly's between you.
Funny you should say that we both have Wellington boots and Josh is using his now but mine aren't comfortable enough for long walks. They are ok if it's just a short distance 😊
Great to watch. Those towpaths were awful, considering the fee you are going to pay this year to the CRT do you think the canals are maintained to the standard that they should be or are the fat cats at the top being paid enormous salaries?
Most of the towpaths are like this in the winter when we have lots of rain. The ones in towns are usually better for the cyclists. We wouldn't cycle this time of year too muddy and slippery.
