I can't believe this was so popular! I feel like that these days something can be good OR popular, but here we see that not too long ago, you could have both.
@@TheJacobBennett actually U2 and Talking heads shared stage at some point. If i recall correctly, U2 was their support band in the UK. Plus U2 worked with Brian Eno too. I know they are completely different, just saying that is not crazy to name both bands in the same sentence. Have a good one.
Thank you to phish..if it wasn't for them covering Remain in Light in 96 ..I never would have become obsessed with the talking heads before the internet.
im making a list to count the cost of opportunity ! doing it right Facts are usleless in emergencies ! That line sent me spinning in 1980 and Ive never been the same since !
David Byrne could say his influences. I'm thinking Fela Kuti could funk the same with lengthy inspired jams but minus the rock, the English language lyrics and the euro art sense.
A straight up and unique rocker.damn,they were good.david byrne is a genius.love this.and byrne's sunken knee stage proformance.tina were'nt bad either.
1980's Record Executive: You need to be handsome, stylish, cool, have great dance moves, and sing bubblegum rock. David Byrne: Sorry/Not Sorry, I'm a nerd, dance erratically, and can only make music that is awesome.
i'll go completely bonkers anytime i hear this one. i mean ANYTIME since made & forever. not a pretty sight, i tells ya. do it on my own. there's no room anymore for this kind of disclosure. sad.
Not a lot of people realized that T Heads were really a riotous dance band. Tina and Chris rippin' as they always do, along with supporting cast. AWESOME!!! If you can listen to this while remaining seated all the way through, I have a doctor you need to see. YEAH!!!! Especially love the breakdown at 1:50 SMMMMMMMMOKIN'!!!!!
i used to think this was the most funked out talking heads song ever, until i heard the great curve, for anyone that hasnt heard that check out live in rome on youtube,THE hottest shit known to man.
The Curve has some guitar based wow factor and huge audience cheer at the end in Rome. But for me the Painless rendition above is more fun due to the infectious bell pattern a la Fela Kuti. Each to their own.
@benjammin107 You know David is still alive and well, right? Still writing music, books, blogs, making art installations, and other bizarre / wonderful things.
Yep it's the bells that drive and lift this great Fela Kuti style jam. Some of the bells could be Brazilian agogo bells - high pitched two tones or more. Byrne's gone on to do samba series of cds too.
Could not agree more! David Byrne is a god. And if this song doesn't bring your freak on and have you breaking out into your own little tribal dance, then clearly you must be dead inside!
we already have wonderwall, dont look back and live forever.... why more Oasis?? Atleast we got 5 awesome Talking Heads songs. I could wait a little longer for more Oasis
@grenaderock Ok I hear you but who cares when it comes down to it. I mean was John on acid when he did Lucy In The Sky, or was Axl Rose on mushrooms when he recorded whatever the fuck he recorded?? Oh wait, excuse me while I kiss the sky
@grenaderock man are you a music reviewer--if not you should be! OK so TH has drug imagery and maybe references it in their music. So what, dude? I honestly don't see what relevance it has to the songs and the appreciation of them..
@samsbro1952 YEAH! Who cares what they were on as they wrote and made their music. Like who cares that Jagger was on jagger the entire time? That drug will kill the normal human, it is an ugly thing, do NOT USE jagger.
Wierd. He's talking about a Grateful Dead jam from 1974. Nice stuff that year, but I think SmelOdies' pal Emmett is caught in bad anachronism vortex, and neither of them know what they're talking about. My two yen....
Out of all the videos of this song, this one is my absolute fave. It totally celebrates the freak flag in all of us.
Talking Heads come back to us!
One of my lifetime favorites, thanks for uploading.
I can't believe this was so popular! I feel like that these days something can be good OR popular, but here we see that not too long ago, you could have both.
This is the REAL church.
GOD DAMN! That place is one huge dance party... love the Talking Heads!
wouldnt pay £150 to watch U2,but i would to see this band again
+billy casper Why would anyone bring up U2! U2 doesn't even belong in same sentence
+Jacob Bennett Ok Rod stewart then,Same thing,greedy and over-rated
@@TheJacobBennett actually U2 and Talking heads shared stage at some point. If i recall correctly, U2 was their support band in the UK. Plus U2 worked with Brian Eno too.

I wish i couldve been there. I saw Byrne do some heads songs at Bonnaroo but the whole band w Adrian Belew and Bernie Worrell would be truly epic.

im making a list to count the cost of opportunity ! doing it right Facts are usleless in emergencies ! That line sent me spinning in 1980 and Ive never been the same since !

Emmett believes the 7/29/74 "Let it Grow" jam alludes to this song.
Great Talking Heads Trance!

Got energy? You'll need it ALL for this song. Whew!!!!!
1980's Record Executive: You need to be handsome, stylish, cool, have great dance moves, and sing bubblegum rock.
David Byrne: Sorry/Not Sorry, I'm a nerd, dance erratically, and can only make music that is awesome.

Yep it's the bells that drive and lift this great Fela Kuti style jam. Some of the bells could be Brazilian agogo bells - high pitched two tones or more. Byrne's gone on to do samba series of cds too.
Damned facts. They don't do what I want them to.
Could not agree more! David Byrne is a god. And if this song doesn't bring your freak on and have you breaking out into your own little tribal dance, then clearly you must be dead inside!

Talking Heads broke up in 1991, they never covered Phish. Don't be so obtuse
@sepherant sure, In your dreams dude.
you did not do heroin with david byrne.
one of the best bands of all time no doubt
This makes me want to move move move... wiggle my hips and I dont care how gay it may look.
Tina Weymouth...Phew!!
GETTING THE FUCK DOWN
@grenaderock man are you a music reviewer--if not you should be! OK so TH has drug imagery and maybe references it in their music. So what, dude? I honestly don't see what relevance it has to the songs and the appreciation of them..
Go to a Phish show... it's all dancing all the time
@samsbro1952 YEAH! Who cares what they were on as they wrote and made their music. Like who cares that Jagger was on jagger the entire time? That drug will kill the normal human, it is an ugly thing, do NOT USE jagger.
0:22 weird.....o.0

I did heroin with David Byrne.

Man, I wish there wasn't this lame editing. What a great way to ruin an awesome video.
