can you please make a video on its settings
I appreciate you taking the time to do these videos. I am a RN student and sometimes my instructors go way beyond my classes understanding. You break it down so that we understand it fully. Thank you solo much!
Just of note: for assist control. The vent does all the work. The patient can initiate a breath but again the machine takes over and gives the breath. For example: your rate is set at 16 but the patient is breathing 20. The patient is initiating the breath but the machine does all the work. If they have no respiratory drive they will get a minimum of 16 bpm.
I like the way you explained AC.Please if you can explain SIMV.
AC Mode= Pt not breathing.
SIMV mode= Pt is sorta breathing.
S Mode for BIPAP
PPV Complications-
Barotrauma
02 Toxicity
Decreased Cardiac Output
Auto PEEP
Diaphram Atrophy
Justin Lockert
Easy to understand. Extremely helpful. I’ve been a nurse for only 14months and now it makes sense. Thank you
THANK YOU. This totally saved me as a brand new LTAC RN going on a floor where 80% of the patients are on ventilators. You made this easy to understand.
We have a quiz bank that’s NCLEX based that you can customize. You can get the full 15 video course + study guides & quiz bank! Try it free at Simplenursing.com/nursing-school
Im about to take my RRT exam. for the second time. You are making me understand more than any of my professors ever did haha! thank you! you're boosting my confidence!
You and your videos are literally getting me through nursing school! Thank you so much! 2 more months :)
Thanks so much for these videos. The bad comments disgust me. This world is so full of ungrateful, ignorant people. It is so sad. If someone is spending their free time giving you free information you say thank you and count your blessings.
+Melissa Hall can only help those who want it :) thanks for the support😍
Amen sister.
Thank you for saying that. Haters are going to hate. The hater trolling Mark is probably jealous.
You dont seriously expect nurses not to complain do you? Unfortunately after only two years this is the most ive ever seen in any field of work.
Finally!!! I've been through over 20 of these videos and couldn't get what i was looking for. Thank you
dude, there are many of us that truly appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us....i do not care how you spell or say a word....i completely understand your teachings...so, thank you...people that are "that" critical...need to get a life...man, you help me understand concepts i struggle with in class!
hahaha, thanks Brent! I am refreshing all my old videos to make sure I eliminate things like this :)
By the way have you taken advantage of your free access to our entire video library, not on youtube simplenursing.com/free-trial/
Great info mike!! Let's see if I ace my respiratory exam tomorrow!! Last semester of RN school!!
Good job man. You did a good job explaining keep them coming.
Thank you for this video. It helped me to understand vent modes so I can ace my Med/Surg 2 exam next week. :)
PLEASE DO MORE VENTILATOR VIDEOS. YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL
Thank you at this point I just needed SOMETHING
Everything he saying is makes a perfect sense to me. With fun, he made me to understand ABG, I like the way he name carbon di acidosis.. It just sticks in my mind. The Pao2 is also correct, because in RT we know that there are two kinds of O2 pressures with a. “A” for Alveoli and “a” for artery (PAo2 and PaO2) i hope am not wrong.
You did an awesome job at explaining this.. I seen other videos and I was so confused. Thanks so much 😊
Thanks Michael, helping people is what nursing is about
You're better at explaining than most of my instructors. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much you helped me get through paramedic school
Thank you so much for this video!!!!! after i watched your video everything made sense to me...THANKS AGAIN!!!!!
I could just hug you I get i get it I get it I'm not nervous anymore I get it literally having light bulb moments so simple. ...THANK YOU
it really helped me ! cause i am now studying and my course is respiratory therapist
thank you very much ... you make me love nursing more and more ;)
please post more on vent.
Great understanding explanation thank you.
hey michael :) i'm a respiratory therapy student!! :) mechanical ventilation is my major! thanks for posting this video. i really wanna master the modes in mechanical ventilation. but our teacher is complicated.. . she gives case study all the time without discussing the core basic of mv. hope you could help me!
Thank you so much for your precious time to make the vedios keep it up
Thank you for this video, really helps a lot. I need to be as confident as willing for my new job. :D
Watched this video last night only to ace my quiz this morning. Beyond thankful for your videos
You got it
Ok. well the videos work really well. thanks for putting them up.
Awesome video, so helpful and simply
Loved it. Thanks
thank you for your information
Vey good job. What about the CPAP, I see patient on CPAP when they are being weaned. Thanks.
thank you !
Yes I did say Carbon Di-ACID :) its a fun play on words, you wont get it until you see ABG video
thanks!
thank you so much
I particularly looked for your video since I couldn't understand this topic that well. Thank you Mike!
PS, I'm a person particular with spelling but heck, I don't mind the typos, I can understand what you're conveying anyway plus that is NOT the total measure of your intelligence or expertise. I will be taking my NCLEX this February. Hope I can make it.
hai
Stop focusing on the spelling and listen to the concepts my buddy's trying to explain. Youll learn a lot more. 😉
Thanks sir
Thank you:)
Micheal you are doing an excellent job, but some of these so called wise guys don't deserve your teaching. if i were you, i would remove them from my page. how can a person come to your page seeking help and trying to correct your spelling? thats an oxymoron!!! you are the expert here and they are in training... this is not a freaking spelling bee, its Med. Surg or the topic thereof and you all need his help!!! Nurses are critical thinkers medical professionals not freaking language arts professional!!! Get a life!!!
Mellashon Brown I agree no one should be correcting his spelling. But as a Respiratory Therapist he isn't explaining certain things accurately.
That's understandable, but the spelling insults were ridiculous! He has helped me through my entire nursing program. So he is not doing that bad...
My NURSING INSTRUCTORS AT SCHOOL don't know how to spell half of what they are teaching. They say the same thing as Michael. "This is NOT an English class." Keep up the GREAT work Michael! I wouldn't have got an "A" and two "B's" last semester without you! I even had my instructor play a video of yours when she was having issues getting people to understand what she was trying to teach! :-)
bless you
What is ETCO2 on ventilator flow sheet? What is the difference between Volume/ Pressure control and Pressure support? Thanks
Nigina M ETCO2 is End-tidal CO2. It is how much CO2 a pt exhales. It should correlate with the ABG. Pressure support is like having a spotter when you are bench pressing. It gives you the extra help. Depended upon the mode, the vent will deliver a set volume if the compliance and pressure allows.
Talk to your RT . They should be able to show you if you are confused
PEEP is generally set @ about 5 if I'm not mistaken.
Mike Clonts A PEEP of 5 is generally therapeutic. So yes, you are correct.
PEEP is not "generally set at 5cm h2o. Many factors go into setting an initial peep level. COPD patients, trauma, fluid overload, overdoses, etc. PEEP is set at what is called the optimal PEEP level. High enough to keep alveoli open but low enough not to cause decreased venous return. A PEEP of 6cm h20 or less is usually the bases of an SBT ( with a low delta P/pressure support as well).
Thank you so much babe
I like the way all the settings are being explained, but isn't it ALVEOLI not aveoli?
so why are you people so hung up about the typos? HE might not be the greatest speller on earth but sure a great teacher. You spell good but I am learning zilch from you.
If ur so smart why are u on this video clearly he know more then u
Very useful
Glad it was helpful! Be sure to take the free quiz here Simplenursing.com/nursing-school
u r awesome!!!
Be careful when you give PEEP, monitor your patient closely as PEEP increases FRC, and hence you'll have air trapping, and if left unchecked you might burst the patient's lungs. Also, PEEP increases mean airway pressure, plus it decreases venous return to the heart. For COPD and ARDS patients, you don't want too much pressure so that permissive hypercapnia is allowed. For these patients, try not to eliminate their hypoxic drive by giving too much O2.
I am looking at my reflection in the screen, cant focus on the webcam :)
@mikelinares.. i wanna ask something about the mechanical ventilator... is pb7200 allowed to be use for a pedia patient around 11years old who's weight is 27kgs
Nice. Subscribed :)
Gud explanation
vinny kaushal rana
Information is great but, the video quality (not resolution) needs a ton of work. Have you tried digital blackboards like Kahn Academy?
this is just great !! i know understand my lectures hahaha :) (Y)
Thank u.
Thanks, but lol, this video is soooo old! Please see our newest ones on our website, fully remastered! Try it free at Simplenursing.com/membership
@Simple Nursing - does the website have an updated version of this video with more nursing information?
very basic understanding, but good effort, upload mechanics and need for more advanced modes
pa02 is partial pressure of Oxygen, not pulmonary artery pressure. And it's measured in mmHg, not percentage. Just clarifying. I could be wrong, I'm only a student.
Can u explain about how to calculate tital volume
6_10 ml/k.g
on simv mode is the patient on volume or pressure settings?
can be on either..SIMV can be PC. PS settings..
Good
lol, this video is soooo old! Please see our newest ones on our website, fully remastered! Try it free at Simplenursing.com/membership
He's an RN (Registered Nurse)
is it aveoli or ALVEOLI
found this video looking for "how to setup IVAP" lol
Somethings are explained well....Other things Michael Linares has no clue what he's talking about.
What is he explaining incorrectly?
What is he not explaining well?
What is he not explaining well?
Mark has excellent lectures!!..and he's cute!
Are you an RT?
weening should spells weaning
You didn't specify what your talking about when you said 80-100.... 80-100 What, PAO2, saturation? It makes a massive difference. An acceptable aerial pressure of 80-100 is acceptable but not bellow 90 for Sat
(Y) (Y)
Why does my patients VTE go from 130 to 220?
We have a quiz bank that’s NCLEX based that you can customize. You can get the full 15 video course + study guides & quiz bank! Try it free at Simplenursing.com/nursing-school
The videos are great....but who is he looking at off to the side?
Should’ve consulted your RT before making this video.
i love your videos but PLEASE get a better quality video camera
It's carbonic acid
it is not aveoli- it is alveoli :>
I was wondering why this was 144p and then I saw 10 years ago lol
alveoli?
This is how most of the videos are on simple nursing. Not the new videos with graphics like you would think. He has great information but don’t be fooled into thinking the website is all new videos… most are very old and not what is advertised!!
Hi Jessica! Yeah, this is an old video. We are refreshing all of our old videos. We actually released our new, fully animated and updated ventilator videos last year. Check them out in our membership here: simplenursing.com/nursing-school-desktop/
You need to work for your doctorial program because You are very smart. Sorry for my poor grammar
All the studies that I have seen show no evidence that SIMV helps with weaning in fact it is shown to prolong time on the vent.
Alveoli***, good lesson though I suppose
0:55.....You pass gas bro? :)
hahahaha! pretty sure it was his marker though 😂
I've never seen anyone go A/C MODE and then switched to SIMV. (for weaning purposes) Thats a waste of time.
+David Sung David is correct. The only time I have seen SIMV used is in a long term acute care hospital. For the most part SIMV has been shown to actually prolong weaning times. In theory it sounds great in practice... not so much.
+David Sung That is irrelevant. For nursing school (point is of the video) purposes, you must know that SIMV is used for weaning purposes. So if you don't know that (true or not) then you will miss those questions on the exam. And point of nursing school is just to get passed it because half the shit they teach is BS.
How is that irrelevant if that statement is incorrect? Patients who come out of post op from cardiac surgeries on on SIMV....does that sound like a weanable mode?
I agree alot of stuff is nonsense and not practical. The point is to pass the test correct....but if you make these statements in a major hospital ..NO ONE WILL TAKE YOU SERIOUSLY
David Sung Point of his videos and his online program are to help you pass the nursing program. I actually just took this exam and SIMV is used for weaning (on the test of course). I'm not saying you are incorrect. You obviously know more than I ever will because you are RT. But point of video is to get you to pass test and that is the information they teach in the nursing program.
+David Sung Criticism is good. However instead of pure criticism you can explain exactly what is not correct so we could all learn from it. The effort of writing down words of disapproval is similar to write words of benevolent correction. "You cannot make a glass of dirty water clean if you criticize how dirty it is. If you pour clean water in it, the water gradually cleans"
are you a nurse?
Yes he is
"weaning" lol
wean not ween
relax--np nit picking :)
how cares about the spelling listen to the message. it is very helpful information video!
We don't ventilate off weight. We ventilate off height.
From,
Your friendly respiratory therapist
aLveoli
Some of the info was ok but ..He need to stick with nursing....
What do you mean? A nurse has to lnow these tjings to care for patients.
Nursing doesn't generally do vent settings...well they shouldn't. That's the therapists jobs. We don't mess with iv poles, ect. Nursing shouldn't be changing vent settings...
carbon diacid ? wtf
It's alveoli, not aveoli. Just saying,
you spelled "weening" wrong. It's weaning.
Don't purchase any membership. Totally not worth the money. I did and regret it. Stick to the free videos for supplemental information. I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions. ATI, Klimek material, and the free simple nursing videos or other videos on UA-cam was how I did it. Good luck! Don't let companies take advantage of you during a most stressful time.
ALVEOLI.. :-D
"WEANING"
Mark Robbins where's your video?
hahaha
And I kinda thought using a “brain dead patient” as an example for the AC mode was a bit extreme. I mean seriously...how often do we care for a brain dead patient?!
Actually a lot of times in ICU
It’s very common
