The Uluru Statement From The Heart was written by more than 250 delegates from all over Australia gathered at Uluru, Northern Territory, on the lands of the Anangu people, at the First Nations National Constitutional Convention in 2017. After centuries of struggle for recognition and justice, the statement calls for the establishment of a ‘First Nations Voice’ enshrined in the Australian Constitution and the establishment of a ‘Makarrata Commission’ to supervise agreement-making and truth-telling between governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. LYRICS
Ḻorrpu
(White Cockatoo)
Ḻiya munyaṉ wäyin, ḻiya munyaṉ wäyin
(These birds can see the spirit of our ancestors)
Naḻyurrunha gumadalili maykulili dhiyal'dhiyal'lili
(They fly up and gather in the branches of the paperbark trees)
Ḻorrpu ŋathina munyaṉminy munyaṉminy
(The White Cockatoos cry out together)
Ga ŋee ŋerrk
Ŋee ŋerrk
Ga ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk
(The crying sound of the White Cockatoo)
Ghost ships sailing in the sky
Followed by the old empire
Trashed these nations, built their own
Change the date
Change the date
Change the date
Sailed to Sydney, flags flew high
Built a prison, please stand by
There’s no plausible denial
Change the date
Change the date
Change the date
Settlers stormed in countless waves
Massacred the native race
Left no mark on history’s page
Change the date
Change the date
Change the date
Draped in flags on this grand day
Drinking down your chardonnay
How long can you just look away?
Change the date
Change the date
Change the date
Ḻorrpu
(White Cockatoo)
Ḻorrpu
(White Cockatoo)
Ŋerrk ŋerrk thuna ŋathiŋa
(Ŋerrk ŋerrk they are crying)
Mali' munyaṉ wäyin
(The birds see the spirits and cry out)
Ga ŋee ŋerrk
Ŋee ŋerrk
Ga ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk ŋerrk
(The crying sound of the White Cockatoo)

Gurrumul Yunupingu's singing on this track blows me away, incredibly emotional.
I'm simply blown away by how powerful these tracks off Makaratta are. Even after such a long break the Oils remain as relevant as ever. Welcome back and hopefully we see these songs performed live next year!
It would not be the same without Bones.
@@artystaar It will be different without bones for sure but they were brilliant before him and will be after. The thing I'll miss is bones harmonious backing vocals. How are they going to sing "Lucky Country" without him.?
Music to my ears 😍 The piano is just sublime 👏 RIP Bones 💛💙❤️
So sorry to hear about Mr. Hillman. May the extended Midnight Oil family live forever.
That Gurrumul vocal is like a soul that never dies.
Beautiful song! Good vibes, from Brasil, for all Oils!!! RIP Bones.💔
Such a gorgeous song. That vocal goes right through you. And to see Bones..
RIP one of the best Bones
Well...Bones being the key word...
We still disturb them
One of the world's greatest drummers the heartbeat.
Thank you...... 🙏
Halfway around the world from Australia and I am still so moved by this music and what’s it’s taught me about Australia’s first people.
A beautiful song indeed.
Midnight oil have still got it there powerful Aussie music is so cool 😎
je vous ai découvert en 1982 , je ne me lasse pas de vous écouter.
vivement votre retour en France pour de nouveaux concerts.

Bones...Thanks for all....So glad i saw you guys here in Rio.... I'll Never forget......
Good vibes to all Oils around the World ..
Thankyou Oils, your great music and message is still relevant and needed. Let's hope we as a nation can move forward united .
Beautiful song!
My favourite band, I listened to you since 80's. I love you 😍😍😍
Love will rule oneday , god bless .
Reaches into one's very soul.
The Makarrata Live gigs were amazing.
Had the honor of seeing Gurrumul perform in an old church in Amsterdam 5 or six years ago--nice to see him being included here like this. Typical Oils, loyal to the end- RIP Bones, gone way too soon, mate.
LOVE the entire Makarrata Project, agree with the sentiment of this song, even though “the date” is my birthday...R.I.P. Gurrumul (beautiful voice, powerful talent) & Bonesy 💔💜💔
Thanks so much for this video and the others from the project.
Cool how the indigenous singing merges nicely with the modern rock sound
The indigenous people taught us how to respect and respond to the earth's needs so OUR planet may help US survive. ALL OF US AROUND THE GLOBE. ...have been happy to know our planet. Stay safe and well.
MY❤2U&URS ALWAYS...😔🎼🎹🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶😢
@@kristinlford8098 lol abos hunted the megafauna to extinction, and burnt so much land during hunts that now the dominant trees require bushfire to germinate. Dunno if they are the great custodians you believe they are.
when the algorithm leads you to an old band you know that someone will be missed... RIP Bones
My favorite band forever !
They really did well on this one. I have faith in them. Grateful for their music 🎶...
Love your work team ! 💖
Will miss Bones Hillman 😭
Prolly my favorite track of the entire album. It really moves me. And I'm a white Dutchman, no less...
Shouldn’t matter what colour you are , or race.
@@AdamSandaver exactly my point. I mentioned my colour and race to emphasize how far I away am from being affected by the theme of the song, as in relation to how it moves me. Purely as a compliment.
Another Dutchy here. Although Australia is really far away and you could argue the situation is none of my business, I still feel deeply about how native people are being treated (not only in Australia). I first learned about Australia’s inequality through the music of Spinifex Gum, having been a fan of The Cat Empire for more than ten years now. And it always has me in tears. How can people be so cruel? Why is it SO hard to just think about someone elses needs, emotions, rights, history and show some respect? Western culture might be comfortable for those of us on the good side, but it’s pain, grief, hardship and cruelty to others. We are parasites.
(I might have done some bad Englisching, sorry about that.)
@@gemaskerdeaardbei5709 We humans have always done this to one another. It will end, for all of us, soon enough.
Love this!
grupazo, inagualable. Excelente letras de sus canciones. Banda enorme, los escucho siempre.
RIP BONES.
greetings from berlin
Last time I saw them was 2017 at Huxleys Neue Welt! Great show!
Wow, what an amazing track!!!♥️
Hear hear. Beautiful stuff, and great to have Gurrumul's wonderful voice and Bones' great bass immortalised on this.
Goosebumps
Sublime morceau les Oils, merci ! incroyables harmonies les voix de la toute fin
I hear the voice of the earth, thank you all !
So lovely to see the Oils with new friends (and vale Bones from a fellow Kiwi). The words do shred you, but these people are are as always telling us what we need to hear - happy or not. Bless em and can't wait to see them live in the not too distant.
One of my favorite bands put out an album last year and I did not know it. I knew they were doing some concerts here and there but this is pretty important.
Same here. Only just found about it. And there's another one on the way.
This is the best album in the band's entire discography and he's been a fan of the band for many years and I know what I'm talking about
BRAVO!!!
Spectacular!
The Makarrata Project is a transformative work. I'm proud to be a fan of the Oils. They continue to sing songs about things that are important, things that matter. That's a rare thing nowadays. Thank you for enriching the world!
Absolument Merveilleux !! 😘😍😊 quel plaisir...
( olive from France..).
Yaaassss!!! More power to your elbows guys! Great to see you back.
Always lived the oils but this new stuff is fab! We went to Australia 3 years ago and followed the east coast up to Port Douglas from Melbourne. Means so much to me and drives the eye rain! Love to you all .
Cheers Bones.....
My how this mighty band has grown. From a punk acorn to this mighty majestic oak.
I love it.
Midnight Oil em plena forma, os caras são FODAS!! Viva Gurrumul!!!!!!!
sou fã!
As fellow musicians I'm overcome by the heart of this group, and the incredible power of the indigenous voices recorded here. I've loved them since I first picked up a guitar at 16 years in the blue sky mining era. The spirit of justice here prompts and somewhat overwhelms at the same time (too much? that's what I'm thinking right now).
The best australian band ever
SUPERRRRR!!!!!
One of my best favorite bands!!!!
Linda canção 💖😍
Making a brotherhood with the indigenous. Someone should learn. . . .
français , 47 years old , i hear them since i'm 16 and i'll hear your song untill my last day , thanks for all , world and life are beautiful
Ficou muito bom essa dupla cantando essa música show de bola
Wow, nice work everyone... I've always appreciated more complex arrangements and world/ethnic/fusion music, and this really shines.
Everyone can be Midnight Oil.
So let's burn the midnight oil instead of the real stuff and all lend a hand in cleaning and naturally/organically helping to revitalize the planet and helping its many lives live and thrive.
It's about symbiosis, win-win, equity.
Some things never change, and is so important, as yesterday.. Make a change.. make it new...
Gorgeous song.
Midnight Oil!! The Best
Please change the date!
This is probably my favorite from The Makarrata Project. I'm reading all of those shitty "best albums of 2020" lists and wondering how my top 4 favorite albums of the year didn't make a single list...payola and ad revenue sources decide what is on those lists I guess.
Maravilhoso
im behind it
amazing song...I agree
we love mad miss you uncle gurrumul
Bones te extrañaremos ,gracias
Y que buen tema saludos desde Mexico everybody
Hermosa canción
Ainda bem que existem grandes músicos

Amazing album. Coming from Denmark, I had never heard of Gurrumul and his music. Have heard his music continuously since. (anyone know a link to the piano score of this song?)

wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww great
🤘👍
Just listened to « Chansons & musique de la résistance chilienne », and I’m in awe that there is no violence in these songs : only beautiful words of ordinary people that want justice. Why are we not heard ?
🙏❤
Gorgeous music. Beautiful photography. I love the orange light.
Very beautiful
❤️💯🍻
Great Hit, Nice Souvenirs 🎸🤩🎶
All gouvernement should have listen And Obey To That brillant song 34 Years ago ... in 1987 🤔
Unfortunettly For Our Planet, They didn't 😡
15 one nation supporters disliked, or Pauline did it 15 times herself...most likely the latter.
Great music and you guys are amazing !
Beautiful.
Since I know the band and Peter, I always thought he would be great in a horror movie. I love the band since the 80s, saw them twice live.
Check out "The Hills Have Eyes" original
@@davefillion3493 yup, when I first saw Peter, I thought it was that guy!
@@unloveableandre PG and MO is most humble and cosciencious artists on this planet .They changed the perception of indigeneous first Nation of Australia and with their artist they form the bond than cannot be broken.
