It used to be like that in here too, well it still happening in some national project, but in Jokowi reign he strictly invested in infrastructure and put it on first priority that's why a lot of project going smoothly so far and he really need that because before his reign Indonesia just suffer from the biggest infrastructure corruption in its History so people always sceptical and critical about it.

It should be by building & improve new industrial zones on each island or province in Indonesia. I think there were no building delays it's not as what Jokowi expected to be, but for the amount of completion now in such short time, it is actually on the target and it is not true that it is over the budget. For the first stage, the funding provided is 40 Trilion Rupiah and now only spends 13.7% of it, which is 5.5 Trilion Rupiah. The Celebration of Independent daya in New Capital is a success. The guest invited to be split with Jakarta, which did the celebrations also. So it has nothing to do with a lack of hotel.

Java island is sinking faster each year, the potential threat of Sunda megathrust earthquake (and tsunami) is looming and Kalimantan is one of the few big islands that is NOT in the "Ring of Fire" tectonic belt of volcanoes and earthquakes. It's the right move for the country's future stability.
From my personal opinion Pro's : 1. We need new capital city because jakarta having too much burden, politics, economy even environment. 2. Why Kalimantan? Because its in the central of the country and also to spread country development not only focus on java. Hope in the future other island like Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi and even Papua will have a massive development. Con's We dont have enough budget to make this program as a "strategic", "urgent", "must to". There's stil alot of other national issue that need more attention and more budget rather than just finsished this new capital in term of Jokowi's era.

I think investors won't risk money on this projects bcos it's to far from Jakarta, it take 30 to 50 years to build a new capital, you need more infrastructures, concreting nearby and businesses. also Philippines, Saudi Arab and Egypt are building new capital too. And world economy are slowing too, the investors today are keen to invest in modern such as ai, clean energy and digitals, semi conductors and electric cars.

But as a foreigner student, I want to know more about economic of this great country.. many things for scientific study and it's comparison with other countries on the same case. If you want to reduce the disparity of development between Java Island and non-Java Islands, it's not by building new capital. It should be by building & improve new industrial zones on each island or province in Indonesia. 1. We need new capital city because jakarta having too much burden, politics, economy even environment.
2. Why Kalimantan? Because its in the central of the country and also to spread country development not only focus on java. Hope in the future other island like Kalimantan, Sumatra, Sulawesi and even Papua will have a massive development.
Con's
We dont have enough budget to make this program as a "strategic", "urgent", "must to".
There's stil alot of other national issue that need more attention and more budget rather than just finsished this new capital in term of Jokowi's era.

I think investors won't risk money on this projects bcos it's to far from Jakarta, it take 30 to 50 years to build a new capital, you need more infrastructures, concreting nearby and businesses. also Philippines, Saudi Arab and Egypt are building new capital too. And world economy are slowing too, the investors today are keen to invest in modern such as ai, clean energy and digitals, semi conductors and electric cars.

Why the capital city is moved ?
The current capital of Indonesia, is congested and even more worrying, it’s sinking by as much as 25cm a year! About half of the city of more than 30 million people already lies below sea level.
But largely because all the economic activity in the country is centered in Jakarta, the current capital, and long term predictions show that if the capital stays there the economic inequality will just continue to get worse.
Jakarta started out as an economic hub under the Dutch East Indies Company and two centuries after the company left its still one of the most important economic hubs in Asia. There were attempts to move the political power elsewhere in the 20th century, both by the Dutch and by the independence movement, but it settled in Jakarta anyway.
What that means for most of Indonesia’s people is that most of the country’s money settles there which means there’s none for other regions in the country. It is hoped moving the capital will create new economic links in the center of the country.
This isn’t the first time a country tried this. Brazil moved its capital from thriving Rio de Janeiro to centrally located Brasilia in the 1960s for the same reason. In fact, most U.S. states rejected their largest city as the capital for much the same reason. That’s why they have Albany, Lansing, Harrisburg, Springfield and Sacramento being the capitals of states with much larger population centers. All of those cities are centrally located within their state. Indianapolis was made the capital of Indiana precisely because it was in the center of the state.
So there are several reasons behind this decision:
1. Overpopulation and Congestion
2. Environmental Concerns
3. Economic Development and Regional Balance
4. Administrative Efficiency
The decision to move the capital is part of Indonesia's vision for sustainable development and aims to address various challenges faced by the current capital, Jakarta.
This is long term projects and result will be reach in next 15 - 20 years.
That's why their neighboor "tiny dot island" country - as accomplices or agents of western side, and some of western countries, including their media are really afraid of this project because they've already understand very well that Indonesia will become a major economic power in Southeast Asia, and it will have a big impacts on the economic of "tiny dot island" country, and western interests also in Indonesia. And they are always reporting of this great country and developing of their new capital city in a different perspectives - sceptical & negative news, compared to other asean countries who always support the new capital city of this great great country and the economic growth of Indonesia and Asean.

What is the function of a country's capital city? What support systems are needed? who should be there according to the vision of the new capital city (already explained above) ? We all already know those answer, I don't need to explain it. I am more interested in having an opinion regarding efforts to eradicate poverty and increase economic growth.
Poverty exists in many countries, even in some of the G7 members.
For the poverty alleviation programs, one of solution is education and increase economic growth in all regions of this great country, so as to create new business opportunities for Micro, Small, Medium or Large Enterprises in each regions and create many jobs opportunities. It is also reducing man power accumulation in just one area which will make the burden on that area even heavier.
And this new capital city is one of the triggers as an economic and financial HUB to all potential areas across this great country from west to east and from north to south of this great country.
This is just my hypothesis based on scientific journals related to economic growth as a dependent variable. And many independent variables influence on this subject. one of them is equaltv of financial & economic resources in all regions as a new sub hub economic based on analysis of the potential or opportunities generated.
Regarding Jakarta as current center of economic city and former capital city, the giant sea wall is part of a massive coastal development project in Jakarta, Indonesia which commenced in 2014 and expected to be materialized by 2027.
The project is known as National Capital Integrated Coastal Development (NCICD) master plan or Giant Sea Wall Jakarta. The project, which also has the task of revitalizing the coastline and most importantly offering a vision of the future for Jakarta was designed by the architecture firm KuiperCompagnons of Rotterdam and with a collaboration between Indonesia, and a consortium of Dutch companies (Witteveen+Bosa and Grontmij), which formed National Capital Integrated Coastal Development and were all involved in the creation of the master plan that started in 2008.
I could not explain you more here, so many things that you can learn also.
But as a foreigner student, I want to know more about economic of this great country.. many things for scientific study and it's comparison with other countries on the same case.
Also regarding the economic growth, especially the president-elect has stated that within 3 - 5 years from now economic growth of this great country will be 5% to 8% with all the infrastructures that has been made / created in past 10 years. So it should be affects to reduction in poverty rates also.
